The envelope system is old house but a clever way to carry cash and other stuff. There are pictures of ripped envelopes, will if you open and close these paper envelope they do rip over time. I personally replace the envelopes maybe twice a year, but I do tape up the areas that are pronged to rip (every time I start a new envelopes)
All I can add is we are debt free (everything) and thank you Dave for waking us up and to get out of debt

I have used this item since 2017 and the fake leather still looks pretty good I think. See photo. A little cracked on the surface but completely intact. I’ve only replaced the envelope system once or twice and they hold up pretty well. I honestly don’t use this on a daily basis for all my shopping etc which is still mostly done through my debit card, but I do use this system for saving for recurring bills that aren’t monthly, such as auto registration, gifts, medical expenses, vacation, unexpected small expenses etc. I hit the ATM on payday and put in my allotted amounts for each category. It’s a basic system but it gets the job done . As others said, I don’t see the need to write on the envelopes as I can track the individual expenditures more easily using other methods.
