The good:
1 - great organization--places for just about everything. And now that the laptop compartment is against your back and not in the front zip, it's as perfect as it can get for organization
2 - great carry comfort. This is not meant to be a hiker's pack so not sure why people complain when it's not as comfortable for hikes as people want. But for carrying during travel in an airport, on trains, and urban walks, it's wonderfully comfortable
3 - Solid construction. I've never worried about the durability of any Osprey product, this is no exception.
4 - Awesome padded handles in the right spots
The Meh
1 - While the cinching is a great feature to make sure it bundles down tightly, there is no great stowing for those straps so if you don't buckle them up, they're flapping in the breeze while walking. This isn't an issue if you are occasionally stopping every one in a while (i.e. connecting flight) but is a pain when you are stopping frequently (i.e. sightseeing in a city). Again, it's not meant for that kind of activity, but it could serve that purpose more effectively if you could stow those straps
2 - I'd prefer the top stow pocket have lining so that you could throw your sunglasses in there without worrying about them getting scratched. Again, not a big deal, but a nice feature if it was there
Overall, this is the best travel backpack I've ever seen. I can't say it's better than having a wheeled case because I think it depends on what you're planning on doing and what you're bringing on as your personal item.
The weight distribution wasn't perfect...the shoulder straps leave a little to be desired, so I wouldn't want to use this on a long hike. The load-lifter straps and waist belt help a little. Mostly, you're likely to use this like you would a roller or duffel - it's a hauler, not a hiker. For shuttling around the airport and getting to and from hotels, etc - this was more than adequate, and easy to maneuver. The side and top carry handles were a welcome addition. The bag was durable enough to stand up to a gate check and come out unscathed. The zippers are pretty burly, and durable thus far. The overall quality is high, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bag to anybody in need of a great weekender or - for the more adventurous - long hauler.
