Pros:
- Great quality material
- Design is great
- Plenty of space. I loaded up the main compartment with a makita 18volt drill and 12volt impact drill, battery charger, extra battery, (2) dewalt drill bit cases, a 4lb deadblow, and a pry bar. I fitted screw drivers and other smaller tools in there as well.
CONS:
- The design of it. I know I said plenty of space for pros, but I wish it didn't have that slope. When you zip up the main compartment, it has a slope at the top that takes away space that could have been used. The slope looks more for looks, but if it didn't have that slope and gave it a straight overall box look, there would've been a whole lot of room at the top of the bag just like how the bottom is.
The main problem with tool backpacks is they are uncomfortable. The comfort level of when you carry this one on your back is good. If you are able to distribute the weight of your tools evenly, it will increase the comfort level. There is also extra padding that is on the part of the bag that is mainly on your back. It is similar to the padding that is on the nike girdles or nike shirts for football. They make the bag a little more comfortable. But, this is a great bag overall. Worth the price.
And this L225 tech gear was one item in that process. I am able to get all my had tools and some other misc. gear in this very smart backpack. It leaves my arms free to roll in my Festool Systainer tool storage system w/ a dolly for my power tools. Now I make only two trips and the load is so much lighter.
I'd like to know who in the hell the 2-star tosser is? I am an electrician consequently I own more tools than two people need so when the 2-star goof-ball stated; "despite all the roominess of the main compartment it was actually hard to fit all my hands tools neatly into the bag". Who does this guy think he is that he needs so many hand tools? He's putting holes saws in the pack?! WTF!? This L255 is not a primary tool storage if you're the trades. Also, you don't put knee pads in the pack, a large 'Nite Ize S-biner' will hold the knee pads nicely on the outside saving space to neatly organize an excessive amount of tools.
On the high end of the tool backpacks is the Veto pro pack which is a well made superbly designed bag but you will pay about 3 times as much and it doesn't have the in LED light. Klein makes a pack that is fine w/o a light but also more expensive and DeWalt makes a backpack that is virtually identical to the L255 and it is more expensive as well. The L255 will not disappoint. It is a solid well made tool toting device. CLC has a great reputation and I have been happy with all their products I have used in the past.
The construction is solid, heavy weight fabric. Tough bottom and zippers. Well thought out in terms of design and layout. I estimate I’m loaded with 50 pounds of equipment and it is holding well in the several months I’ve had it. The LED light is an added bonus and has already proven to be handy. The topside carrying handles are solid and serve the weight of the loaded backpack well.
You wont go wrong with this product!
