I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but this thing is so good, it deserves a shout-out.
I confess I was a little daunted at first by what seemed like a confusing bit of assembly work. But the assembly turned out to be pretty intuitive, actually, and the instructions helped (a little -- they could be better). I'm planning to attach it to a mic stand or a music stand, but I didn't have one of those handy today; so I just attached it to a little table stand I have around the house that has tubular legs, since the thing says it will secure to any tube up to 2" in diameter, and damned if that's not true. It attached securely and easily, tightened right down on the tube and DID NOT BUDGE the whole time I was using it, which is pretty important since it's not only holding my not-cheap iPad but also will need to be in set-it-and-forget-it mode when I'm performing, so it doesn't distract me, distract the audience, cause me to engage in repeated adjustment, etc. I'll test it out in live performance this weekend, but for now, I attached it to this goofy little table stand and played for around an hour, and it was flawless. Didn't even move a micrometer when I swiped to turn pages or bring up different apps; it's just solid, well-made, and well-designed.
The articulating arms do just that -- they articulate and move easily, but then (importantly) latch down securely once you've found the right position for you. The ball joint on the platform allows for 360-degree swivel and everywhere in between, even when the arms are locked, so it's adjustable on the fly even in minute increments and at odd angles -- has just enough movement to make orientation adjustments easy without struggling, but not so much as to be loose or wobbly. The combination of the 360 swivel with the articulating arms makes it possible to adjust this thing into so many different positions it's almost ridiculous. Bonus points for the fact that it's pretty unobtrusive in appearance once you get it locked onto your stand, such that all that's really visible from the top or sides is the slim (but strong) platform holder and flat spring-loaded arms. Another bonus: those arms can accommodate the iPad when dressed in its protective bumper case, which makes things look better (and makes me feel better, too). Final bonus (at least the last one I've discovered so far) -- when I took the thing off the stand, I sat down with the iPad still in the spring-loaded arms, and just draped the whole thing over my calf (legs crossed foursquare with ankle resting on my other knee) and guess what? This thing also works as a pretty handy hands-free iPad holder for casual reading, too. Not that it's designed for that, and not that you'd want to be hanging the weight of a metal stand off your shin for long periods, but it's darned stable there, and not at all uncomfortable for shorter bursts of reading (30 mins. or less, I'd guess).
Couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. A little more expensive than your average iPad-holder, but worth every penny in security, function, and peace of mind.
There are multiple places to configure the bracket to get the exact angle you want - you'll just need to tinker with it to get the right fit for you. The only gotcha I found was to make sure the logo on the holder is upright, so that when you want to release your device you just need to apply some downward pressure. At first I had it upside down which made removing the device a little more tricky until I figured it out. So ultimately, if you need a quality clamp to hold your mobile device to your mic stand - I would definitely recommend this one over any other types I've seen. I would highly recommend some type of case for your device if your mic stand ever takes a tumble (it happens). You may also want to test how sturdy your mic stand is - I used a tripod with boom which seemed to hold the mic and iPad well, but it does add some weight to the side so test it out before a live show!
Top reviews from other countries
You get 2 different lengths of bracket arms supplied which, are interchangable . It means you can put an iPad in a folding case on there , no bother. A spring at one end allows easy and secure fitting into the bracket arms.
There are cheaper ones on the market , but if , like me, you are fed up of them breaking , I'd definietly recommend this one.
