This kit has made my 7 year old daughter so happy! She loves anything that has to do with arts, crafts and gardening so this was perfect for her. We have had so much fun painting the pieces and talking about how she will set it up. I was a bit surprised when we first opened it to find that the base is plastic, not ceramic as I had thought, but shortly after came to realize that while we would have loved a real ceramic pot the plastic is probably a better idea. The pieces that came with it (flowers, fairy etc.) are kind of cheep looking and when my sister and I first saw them we exchanged a twisted look...but when my daughter came in and expressed how pretty they were ("pretty" is not the word I would use for that fairy!) we were quickly smiling and decided it was better to put our mocking thoughts away, after all, the items did make her very happy and that's all that matters! Since the kit only comes with one very small paint brush, I recommend buying a set of brushes elsewhere (I got a great set at Wal-Mart for about $2; all different sizes and brush shapes which worked well to add detail) if you are planning on joining your little one in the fun. The paints are great and pretty colors, perfect for the fairy theme, and the glitter and little accessories are a nice touch. In my opinion, $18 is a bit expensive for this kit, I think it's worth $12-$15 at the most, but my daughter's response has made it worthwhile so I am easily able to forget about the price. We just finished painting yesterday so will be planting this afternoon after homework and I'll give an update on how the process goes! So far, this kit really has made my little girl so, so happy and that makes me very happy as well. It allows for quite a long time of fun and quality time together (between painting, waiting for it to dry, more painting and soon planting and then waiting for things to grow). I'm very glad that I purchased this kit, and even for the price I paid, would gladly pay it again; ugly little fairy included!

I got this for Christmas for my 5 year old daughter! We finally got around to setting it up last week and had the BEST time painting the decorations and planting the garden together! It was a fun project that my daughter was able to do most of by herself and only needed me to help her with just a few things. She enjoyed being able to paint all her decorations just how she wanted them, and then had a blast arranging her garden just so. She planted her seeds, watered them, then I put them near a window- within a day her seeds had already noticeably sprouted, and in just a little over a week her plants have grown beautifully! She has taken such delight in watching her garden grow and change every day. I recommend this for anyone with a daughter/granddaughter/niece around 5 or older! It's fun, encourages creativity, and also holds an educational value by showing a child how plants come to life and grow(with a little help from her fairy's pixie dust of course!).

Bought for a 6-year-old, 10-year old, and 16-year old sisters for a craft project. I even made one with them. They enjoyed it and so did I. The decorations are adorable. All items were intact in the boxes. It took us about 3 hours to complete. It all depends on how much you decorate painting and the paint needed more than one coat on the resin figures for the perfect color. We even sprinkled the fairy dust on the wet painted objects to make them sparkle. We also painted the clear stones as the directions suggests with little flowers that magnify when you turn them over and sprinkled them with fairy dust. Added a little miracle grow topsoil and they took off.

My husband actually got this for me as a project to do with my daughters (2 & 4). I did most of the painting of toadstools and the fairy house and let them paint the flower pot. The quality of all the items exceeded my expectations by far! Usually these kids projects you can buy are flimsy and come with terrible supplies. Not so in this case! The paint only needed one coat to look vibrant. It was a nice thick consistency and didn't run. The flower pot was a nice thick, firm plastic, so it doesn't bend AT ALL, which is nice. Even the paintbrush is a nice wooden craft paintbrush - not those chintsy neon plastic ones with plastic bristles sticking out in all directions like a scare crow!

This kit comes with FAST SPROUTING seeds which is great for impatient young kids, and "fairy glitter dust" that my girls loved!

So why not a 5 star review? The soil the kit comes with is not substantial enough to hold up the toadstools well, and not quite enough for the seeds, in my opinion. I dug up some dirt from outside, and added that, and my kit looks awesome!! Add a bit of dirt, and this kit gets a 5!!

I urge anyone with a 4 - 8 year old girl in your life to make this the next gift you give her. The painting portion (there's a plastic bowl and plaster mushrooms plus the fairy pumpkin) has the perfect amount of items to keep the child's interest and not become impatient to get on to the planting portion of the craft. The paint dries in minutes, and it's loaded with jeweled stones, glitter, and garden decorations, everything little girls love. It sprouted in three days and the plants seem to grow before your eyes. We used only the soil provided and it grew fine. The bean plants are about 6" now and the 5 year old gardener has discovered she can turn the bowl and the plants will turn their leaves to the sun. Art, science and fairy fantasy all in one bowl!
The one negative I have is our box had no Hannah - but that may have become part of the magic. Maddie is expecting a "real" Fairy named Hannah to come live in her garden any time now.
