First off - extremely difficult to set up. The hub I have may have hardware issues, but if you have a network setup with any dual-band radios or band steering, you're going to have a bad time. The hub and Cync devices HATE 5Ghz. They won't connect to a 5Ghz network, which is fine and expected, but my hub flat out refuses to work/connect to the dual-band APs unless I disable band steering and every 5Ghz radio in my home, so that only the 2Ghz radios were functioning. Just a heads up to anyone using Ubiquiti UAPs or other advanced hardware. At least it connected after that, and they DO clearly state that it won't work with 5Ghz. Important to note that all the other "C by Ge" WiFi devices I have work just fine with the dual-band network hardware beforehand without the hub.
After setup, the hub detected exactly one "C by GE" (Wifi Direct A19) bulb. Once. Then it never detected another device again. Attempting to connect any new devices results in a "Locating..." spinner in the app for about 3 minutes before it gives up and says it couldn't find anything. I have 3 different bulbs which I tired this with, all of them previously working just fine without the hub. I did the following troubleshooting steps, all of which did not change or fix this behavior:
- Searching for devices in the app no less than 500 times.
- Factory resetting the bulbs and the hub
- Restarting the iPhone
- Turning off Bluetooth and turning it back on
- Turning off WiFi on the phone and turning it back on
- Reinstalling the app
- power cycling all devices and the hub, multiple times
- Setting up a standalone network with no other devices connected just for testing the Cync devices
- Plugging the hub and bulb in right next to an enterprise-grade WiFi access point and my Phone
- Deleting and recreating Homes multiple times in the app
- Logging out and logging back in
Despite the sellers' answers here saying this is not compatible with HomeKit, GE's own website states otherwise. Perhaps this is an older version the hardware, I am not sure, but the App lets you add it to HomeKit very clearly in the settings as well. In fact, after it was connected and set up, it connected to my HomeKit with zero issues. It just serves no purpose, as it refuses to allow any GE devices to connect to it.
Overall, I would very obviously not recommend this product. The headache is not worth it, as GE appears to use the end consumer as Quality Assurance rather than hiring their own competent QA department for these products. If a QA department does exist at GE, there is a serious disconnect between their testing procedures and the real world use-cases for the product. Absolutely unacceptable.
Let's say you manage to get it to "connect". Chances are, it's not actually working properly. Sometimes it'll tell you there's a firmware update, but it'll just fail every time. Sometimes it'll say it's up to date. This is mostly random. But, if by some miracle, you get it to connect to the app, AND get it to try to find devices...well, good luck. I managed to get it to see 3 bulbs once. But, it never connected to them. After that, it never saw the bulbs ever again. I fully set the c-reach, the bulbs (by flipping them on/off for 8 seconds each time, about 15 times, so enjoy that part) reinstalled the app, reconfigured the network, disabled 5GHz, but nothing would fix it. In fact, as the hours went by, it only got worse. Devices/bulbs that worked before would stop. The c-reach itself would stop communicating, everything.
This device is the most amazing tech thing I've ever seen, that manages to function less and less the more you use it. I even attempted using Apple HomeKit to get things working. That almost worked. But again, the more I tried to make things work, the worse it got. It also only saw 3 bulbs (out of 5), but over time, stopped seeing any at all. No amounts of resetting/reconfiguring/reinstalling would make this any better.
Save your sanity, do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy this thing. It will not work, no matter what you use. And considering the Cync app makes you tap things roughly 3-5 times for every single task (install bulbs! Tap next. Turn on bulbs! Tap next. Locate bulbs! Tap next, etc.), you'll be wasting a LOT of time just attempting steps, only to wait another 5 minutes for it to fail anyway.
I decided to try the C-Reach Smart Bridge as a last ditch effort before tossing all four bulbs in the bin.
Since installing the Smart Bridge the bulbs have worked perfectly. You will need to reset the bulbs to connect them with the C-Reach, which is kind of a pain but worth it.

By the way, the CbyGE light strips that I wanted to integrate are behind other products already on the market. You cannot do multiple colors at the same time on one strip. Something that you can do out of the box with the LIFX led strips that I have owned for years now and that have work flawlessly.
Also the app is terrible. Probably the worst I have seen for smart lights. (I own, LIFX, Philips Hue and Lutron products). Stay away from CbyGE products. There are better and more advanced products out there.
