A woman struggling with burnout learns to embrace the unexpected—and the man she enlists to help her—in this new New York Times bestselling romance by Helen Hoang.

When violinist Anna Sun accidentally achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment. And when her longtime boyfriend announces he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides that if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too. Translation: She's going to embark on a string of one-night stands. The more unacceptable the men, the better.

That’s where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in. Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second, and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex—he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she herself has just started to understand. However, when tragedy strikes Anna’s family she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her. Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that, they also have to fight for themselves.

"No one should need a diagnosis in order to be compassionate to themself."
I was really surprised by this book and I really commend how it presented some tough topics. The story is told from the perspective of Quan and Anna, who are both really unique characters. Anna has Autism and Quan just recovered from testicular cancer. I feel like I finished it having learned so much about Anna's mind and in turn, finally started to understand how some of the people in my life who are similar to Anna might feel. I had a friend a few years ago who was diagnosed with Autism and I was so surprised because she didn't fit at all what I thought I knew about it. Reading this story from Anna's perspective made it make so much more sense: how she thinks, feels, "masks" to fit it. It really clicked. The progression of the story is a bit hard to "watch" at times, and there were a lot of times I wanted to yell at Anna to stick up for herself or her dad, but I actually think the presentation was a really realistic development of the characters. No one "magically changed" but things happen and they are forced to face the music. This was definitely more graphic than I was expecting, so be aware of that. It took away from the story for me personally, but it's my own fault though for not reading more reviews.

I loved Quan. He had his problems but he dealt with them. Anna’s spiraling to depression was hard to take. It was disturbing. One wonders if she would really be able to deal with her challenges, even with with the love of and support of Quan.

Anna is a struggling musician, just not in the traditional sense. She has some kind of artists mental block. She is even going to therapy trying to figure out what is causing her issues. Anna stumbled by accident into fame through a YouTube video clip of her performing. Then she has proceeded to struggle emotionally and mentally with fears of not being gifted enough musically. She also struggle with being good enough for her family and boyfriend. After her boyfriend crudely suggest they explore a open relationship for a while, Anna takes matters into her own hands. She decides to try and have a one night stand. Online she meets Quan. A man who is suffering his own hardships and demons. They both find in each other exactly what they are looking for and who they need. But circumstances and people try to complicate matters for them at every turn. They must both overcome their own issues to find comfort in each other.

This was a very emotional book. It was not a light or heartfelt subject. You will out right despise Anna's selfish family and boyfriend. Quan and Anna deserve so much more than what they got. It was very difficult stepping into a person with Autisms head. Not in a bad way at all. I just don't think people really realize how hard it is for them to struggle with sensory overload. I don't think I would be able to manage it at all. I never even knew about Autistic burnout. Without a strong support system you could lose your job, your home, relationships, pretty much everything. It was very informative putting yourself in Anna's head. Bless the people who struggle with these issues daily. They are the real fighters.

This was a very well written book. I wish it had some more of the humor The Kiss Quotient had or The Bride test. But I loved it all the same. She is quickly becoming one of my must read authors. Can't wait to see what she writes next. I really enjoy the unique family dynamics and storylines.

UHHHH this book! This book was 100% my most anticipated book of the year, and has become my favorite book of the year! I went into this book blind, when the book release date changed so did the blurb. I had heard that this was going to be an emotional one, and at that point I decided not to read the blurb. I am so happy with my decision to go into this book blind. This book was so beautifully written. It had so much heart, it was a story of loss and self discovery. This book was very much Anna and Quan coming to terms with who they are, who they were and who they strive to be. I have seen multiple reviews of this book, that feel like this book isn't a romance and I am on the fence with were I stand with that. This book has everything that makes it a romance. It is about two people who fall in love, there is a conflict, a resolution and ultimately a happy ever after or a happy for now. BUT this book heavily focuses on Anna, and I do feel like the relationship part of this book was put on the back burner. Do I wish that we got more of Quan and Anna together? Absolutely! Quan is a character that has had my attention from the start, and truthfully I wanted a book that was more Quan focused. But with all of that said it doesn't change my feelings about this book. Quan is still the man that I have come to love, maybe even more. One of my favorite parts of this book is when Anna is breaking down, and Quan just holds her. There is a conversation about why he's such a good hugger and my heart melted. I wish I had better words to articulate my love for Quan. The only thing I don't like about Quan is that he isn't real. I love Anna so much. She is one of my favorite heroine's probably every. Again I wish I had the words to describe why I adored her so much. I think at the end of the day it all boils down to all of the feels I felt not only when reading this book, but being in her perspective. As far as the story it was emotional. Not only do we see Anna get her autism diagnosis, we get to learn about her childhood and her family (which was extremely toxic), and we learn that Quan had testicular cancer and he is coming to terms with his life now. I can not tell you the last time I cried so much in a book. This book is the last book in this series and I will definitely miss this world she created. I never read the author's notes, but I did for this book. I loved reading about this process for Helen Hoang, and I think it made this book that much better for me. This book definitely wont be for everyone. But for me it was everything.

For those looking for a sweet-but-not-shallow love story as a reprieve from grief, depression, and suicidal ideation, this book is not for you. The story went from a lovely romance between two interesting, likeable characters (with reader-sympathetic obstacles like the first two books) to something much sadder. I sensed an odd disconnect, as if the second half of the book wasn’t a romance at all. It’s a tragedy with a bittersweet ending (leaning towards bitter in my opinion. Or maybe I’m a bit bitter for the FL). I read the acknowledgements and then I understood: Ms. Hoang writes that this book is a partial memoir. I really wish she had written them separately instead of a memoir hidden in a romance novel; I would read both, but each at the right time for my emotional state. As it is, after the first two excellent romances in this trilogy, I felt somewhat deceived. I needed a respite from my own grief and pain and I wasn’t prepared for the novel’s plunge to anguish. 3 stars for a solid work that should have been two separate books. (Also, I would really like to read Ms. Hoang’s memoir without the fictional parts. If this novel is partially a true story, then her memoir is worth reading. It’s powerful. Just putting that out there.)

This was so touching and I had tears in my eyes one too many times. I loved that the journey Anna had wasn’t simplify. We had all the depression journey and could feel the struggle it took to get out of it. I really liked that Anna and Quan helped each other and supported the other with no jugement. That is real relationship goals right there!

I love how this author has the power to show mental health at the same time she teaches us about real love and how love don't see disabilities. This female main character is one of the most incredibly strong ones I have ever read about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Que livro MARAVILHOSO
Reviewed in Brazil on March 2, 2022

This is such a rare, wonderful book. I devoured it in 24 hours and I already want to read it again. I love all of Hoang’s writing but this one felt particularly special. It’s that rare combination of truly engaging, warm writing and insightful thoughts on tough, important topics. I can’t recommend it enough. I laughed, I cried and I know I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time to come.
