F1.8 APERTURE AND BOKEH

This lens is sharp with a beautiful tone rendition and a fast f1.8 aperture. The Bokeh is fabulous from the 9-leaf aperture. Bokeh and shallow depth of field are what you would expect.

85mm f1.4 fuji x mount

0.8M CLOSE UP

The minimum focus distance here is 80cm, which nets you a 0.13x magnification. Not a very high figure, but actually the highest of the bunch here outside of the lens that has “macro” in the name and sports a much higher 0.50x magnification.

fuji x mount lens af

AF/MF

Manual focusing aperture ring provides smooth, even rotation from one end to the other. the ring is very wide and has tight metal ribbing. the damping is very nice, This makes pulling focus a breeze when recording video and selective focus simple when photographing through objects like prisms and loupes.

Excellent fast lens, good enough for pros who know how to use lenses.
I have a range of Fuji and Viltrox lenses and I like them all for different reasons. This lens is an excellent telephoto portrait lens wide open and a good landscape / wildlife lens stopped down to between 3.2 to 11. It transmits and renders colors and light beautifully like a great retro classic lens. People generally like a portrait lens that is a little on the soft side with good bokeh, excellent subject separation, and colors. The Viltrox 85mm has all that. It is an APS-C 135mm equivalent and that covers some landscape and larger animals at close range. This is a very sharp lens, but It's perceived softness and vignetting between 1.8 and 2.2 is not great for astro photography where you need light and a slightly longer lens. This lens has some color fringing "wide open" in "very bright" light, however that should not impact portraits taken in controlled conditions, additionally you will stop down to between 2.8 or 5.6 in very bright light anyway unless you have an ND filter. For real world situations the frenging has little impact when you consider post processing will remove. Longitudinal color aberration with the Viltrox 85mm wide open in "very bright" sharply contrasting light white verses black conditions like a book laying down is clearly visible, but the same can be said of Fuji 90mm f2 to a lesser degree, most portrait lenses wide open in "very bright" light have this issue, but that is easy to avoid in real life. Most LaCA only takes a minute to correct in post. My test image associated with this post was taken in bright light wide open; note very slight softness and color fringing when pixel peeping at 300% on near flower, which for my taste is a desirable amount softness for a portrait wide open. The fringing is hardly noticeable no one will notice this on human lower contrast images. Very slight softness erases many skin imperfections and that is good unless you are looking for a more gritty cowboy look that you might get with some lenses. Stopping down to 2.8 would make test image very sharp and 4+ razor sharp. This is a great lens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Value
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2023
Picked this up on a whim, as I was looking for something a little longer than my 35 & 50mm lenses, and the equivalent Fuji lens was a little out of my price range. Incredibly happy I did, and it has been a fixture on my X-T3 since it arrived.

Contrast, sharpness, bokeh, build quality, and basically everything are all top notch. Yes, there's some pretty tough fringing when wide open, but 99% of the time can be easily corrected through Lightroom. Yes, it's a little on the heavy side. But for the price of this lens? I'll take it! The all metal construction makes it feel super high quality and like it could take a beating.

Auto focus is a little clunky, but that could just be the X-T3 -- I generally don't get amazing AF performance compared to Canon Dual Pixel. Plus, for such a cheap lens there are no complaints here. The manual focus ring is wonderfully dampened, so getting precise focus (especially when paired with peaking) is a breeze.

Overall, I am totally sold on Viltrox as a company now, and am going to be purchasing more lenses in the future. Currently eyeing the 75mm 1.4 :)

If you're like me, and you're looking for a reasonably priced high quality telephoto/portrait lens look no further. This is the one for sure.

This review for MKII. This Third party made lens (Made in China) is big surprise for me. It is very sharp at wide open (but not so good at f/16), very good bokeh. Light and solid build. The Auto focus speed is not fastest in compare with Fujifilm latest moden lens (90mm f2) but it is not deal breaker. Wish it had aperture ring on the lens as well as weather seal. But the price of the lens make this one has great value. recommended!

To start with, got this lens after a very long research and continuously monitoring the availability of the product in amazon.
The lens itself is a GEM ! The moment I put it on and turned On the camera , things changed, things changed to an exceptional level.

I own a fuji XT100 , so was a bit skeptical regarding the performance. But, this just got a knighthood amongst all the lenses ive tried. You simply deserve to own this when its available again.

Now the product seems to have been imported by digitek , which i did know of since viltrox mentioned that to me a couple of months back. Well sealed , well handled, brand new. And btw this is the MARK II version that came out in Aug 20.

The price is a bit on the higher side. I mean its exactly whats written on the lable of the product i.e 34.75k , i believe amazon should give a lil bit of discount since we are in India.
Nevertheless, this was a thing to wait for :)
