Vibrant aquatic plants vs. unsightly algae

Healthy growing plants can outcompete algae. In fact, aquatic plants help reduce algae growth, as they compete for the same nutrients. Here are some guidelines to set up the right environment:

For thriving aquatic plants, use a lighting system type and wattage that suit them best.
To prevent unsightly algae growth, aquarium light should be on a maximum of 8-10 hours per day.
It is recommended to test the water with both API NITRATE & API PHOSPHATE TEST KITS because excess nitrate and phosphate can contribute to unsightly algae growth, and zero levels of nitrate and phosphate will hinder plant growth, so you’ll want to make sure levels are optimal.
To get rid of algae, use API ALGAEFIX algae control at first sight.

I purchased the API Co2 Booster Freshwater Aquarium Plant Treatment when I noticed that I had an active algae overgrowth indicating an imbalance of nutrient in the tank. Since the tank is fairly small, and I don't have an external CO2 pump, I thought I would give this a go. Within a week of following the dosing directions on the bottle my algae problem was significantly reduced, and my plants began a completely new growth cycle. Now a few months after using at a regular interval things are looking healthy and lush. A small bottle goes a long way, and so even though it is a bit pricey, it has been completely worth it! I would definitely recommend for any kind of live plant set up.

3 days so far and can't tell a difference but it hasn't killed my fish or my three types of snails. Will update later. I will say that I will probably go through this bottle and no more though because the fact that you have to do it every single day. Update is I still can't tell that it's doing anything.

Installing a CO2 system is frankly not possible on my budget but I still want a healthy green planted tank. The CO2 booster seems to be working well after 3 weeks of use, doesn’t harm the tanks inhabitants (minnows and shrimp) and the plants are going well! Obviously it’s not a one and done, I also use root tabs/plant fertiliser and have a good substrate, but in conjunction with these things the CO2 booster is helping me make the tank Ive been dreaming about!

FIRST you need to know this is not a FIX for CO2 in your tank. NO. It however is a very effective algaecide. Algae require CO2 like all plants to Photosynthesise food. By killing algae you are basically making more CO2 available for your plants.

Also if you keep any sort of algae grazers, like Ottos or even shrimp, this could reduce the food available to them.

This is a very potent chemical - so use sparingly and as last resort as algae control.

I've been using this for a month. I have noticed a small, difference in the plants. But not much. I dont use CO2 directly, this is only used as on its own. My star rating is neutral as I cannot see any significant changes in my tank.

I have a low tech planted tank, i do add liquid fertz once a week but the plants were not getting lush. so i used some root tabs and started to add liquid fertz twice weekly. too much unused nutrients started to cause algae issues. the only solution was to either go with liquid co2 or co2 system.
i did not want to invest a ton on money on co2 system so i decided to go with API. when i brought it, seachem Excel was not available.

This works great as good as seachem Flourish Excel, within a week algae started to die down and the plant started getting lush. algae did a number of some of my plants but after using this for 1 month and i am happy with the results. the plants are lush and the algae issue is gone.

i just wish they would make a larger bottle for cheap, the chemical used is not expensive but they market it as some secret formula and sell it expensive. the base indigent is derivative of glutaraldehyde and you can find many hospitals use it to sterilize medical equipment.
