Product Description
Made just for mirrorless mounts is the new Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS lens. It is available in Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Sony E and Micro Four Thirds mounts. Its 35mm focal length equivalency for MFT cameras is 24mm, for Canon M cameras it is 19.2mm, and for the other three mounts, 18mm. With an f/2.0 maximum aperture, it is particularly effective in low-light capture and can control shallow depth of field for precise subject focus with pleasing out-of-focus backgrounds. It offers a minimum focus distance of 7.9". The lens’s impressive optical construction consists of three Extra-low Dispersion elements, one aspherical, and one hybrid aspherical element. The nano-crystal coating is applied to the inner surface of the two front-most lens elements to minimize ghosting and flare and improve overall image clarity. The Rokinon 12mm accepts front filters and provides a 67mm diameter thread.

I have attached a real estate video I shot with it. As well as, some test shots playing with its depth of field.
I am using this on a CANON M50. I am not very experienced overall.
Takes clear shots/video like any decent prime lens.
F/2 Aperture gives you decent depth of field, but due to the 12mm focal length it focuses on a very wide area so you have to get pretty close to get the desired effect.
It is manual focus.
Which has caused some light issues, but helps keep it affordable. Because there is no electric motor connected to the focus adjustment, it takes a bit of force to adjust the focus. If you try and create a changing depth of field effect while recording video you will jostle visibly jostle the image.
It comes with a lens hood and a nice bag which is a very nice touch.
There are certainly better lenses out there, but this lens if perfect if you need a wide angle on your mirrorless camera. Because of the crop factor from EF-M cameras, you won't get a fish eye effect like you would with 12mm on a full frame. You also can't beat the price.

I won't tell you that a Leica-made (not just badged) lens might not be a bit better, or that the Rokinon outperforms the Olympus-made optic. I can't say because I haven't had a chance to try those lenses in the real world. What I can say is that I carried the Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 on a recent trip to Israel and used it in fairly demanding situations: inside darkened buildings where the very fast glass was a heck of a help; in blazing sunlight where any flaw in color rendering would be obvious; and on gray days as well. The lens is sharp. I found it to be only a tiny bit soft in the corners at f/2.0 and sharpening up to a very high standard by f/4.0. I did not run quantitative tests, but certainly it was excellent by f/5.6. Given the focal length and the need to enlarge micro four thirds images twice as much as those from a full frame (meaning 24 X 36mm, the size of a classic 35mm film negative) sensor, I think it will be diffraction-limited by f/8.0 - f/11. Given the large depth of field stopped down even one stop, this should give nobody any trouble.
I was in a dark sky area and took a couple of not so successful (my fault; I'm learning the technique) astrophotographs. On short exposures the stars are rendered as sharp points, not outta focus blurs. A good sign.
Besides being sharp, a lens must be contrasty and resist flare. The Rokinon delivers on the contrast side of things very well. The included lens shade is very helpful in bright light, and really should be used all the time. I'm not a great fan of lens shades, but on a lens this wide they are useful.
I also shot a Leica M9-P with 35, 50 and 90mm lenses and several Olympus-made lenses on my Oly bodies. I can happily intermix shots from the Leica with shots from the Olympus lenses and pictures taken with the Rokinon in the same digital slide show with no apparent shifts in quality or color rendering.
The lens feels very solidly built, and is a pleasure in the hand. For its construction it is very light. I called Rokinon to ask how they did it. Simple: this lens was designed specifically for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, will not cover the APS-C or full frame formats, and the lens mount ring (changed by the factory in S. Korea to accommodate several different cameras) and the rest of the optic are sized accordingly. So it's smaller and lighter than a lens to cover bigger formats!
Could you get better, sharper, even more contrasts photos with 12mm lenses that cost $600 or more. Sure. If you couldn't those companies would be out of business. But I don't shoot at 12mm?(equivalent of a 24mm lens on a full frame sensor) often enough to warrant the extra cost. Neither do I have magazines to sell to nor advertising clients to show off to.
By my standards this is a very favorable review. I did not receive a promotional lens nor any kind of incentive for writing it. I spent my own cash to buy the lens, and I am very pleased with it. If I took the price into consideration, I would give it five stars. If I just look at the lens and compare it with other 12mm lenses or 24mm on full frame, then it's a four star product because there are better lenses out there, but I have no need for them.
If your camera has focus peaking, manual focusing is extremely easy and fast
Build quality is great, all metal and the included lens hood is a nice addon.
Cons: It can suffer from chromatic aberration if left wide open and you are taking shots of a tree with a strong source of light breaking through (Fix is to bump the F stop to 4 - 8 depending on the situation, and bring the ISO to 200-400 if you truly need to) - It is slightly larger than the Canon options - It does not have autofocus
Tips: Make sure to use edge detect and other focus tools are enabled to make sure you are in focus + Get Filters to help with tricky shots + Keep focus in infinite and bring slowly into focus to walk it back towards your subject if shooting between 3-11 feet

Build quality of this lens is great.
Focal length is really good for a variety of situations, landscapes ofcourse but with the minimum focus distance being low, you can even use this for street and travel photography, food photography,
Recommend this lens for sure.
