I saw some reviews about the salt bags opening during shipping. Mine arrived via USPS and the bags were still sealed. Each salt bags were also wrapped in a protective bag.Bought this for making a pork butt on the smoker. Loved the flavor this salt provided.
My kalua pork, which goes in the crock pot for 24 hours, is so incredibly tasty. I've used other salts to rub before starting the slow cooker and it has come out so very salty. This taste has the salt flavor but it doesn't punch you in the face or make your blown out by salt. I use about 1/2 TBSP per side and slow cook without liquid for 24 hours. Amazing. Only thing better would be a trip to Hawaii and have the pork just out of the pit. I could bring back extra salt. This gives me an island hug without the travel. I go now just to enjoy the sand, surf and beautiful hiking.
Used on some BBQ Chicken - sprinkled on and let sit in the fridge for two hours - then added regular seasoning - smoked for hours and oh my the absolute best BBQ chicken we have made - and we have made a lot of it! Maybe I can get my sis to bring me some over when she visits from Oahu LOL

Discriminating chefs always advise to use the indigenous salt when you prepare dishes from the same country/region. I do not cook Hawaiian foods often at home, but when I do Alaea sea salt is my go to for achieving that closer authentic taste for Kalua pork, grilled Ahi or Mahi, poke, etc.
