Most of mine were straight. There were actually 155 in my package instead of 150, but that is offset by the fact that two of mine had no points and one was bent (I put them all in a pin cushion last night so I could check each one individually). That is a pretty small error rate for a mass produced item like this (these are made in China). And because of the slightly larger number of pins, I still got more than 150 functional pins.
They slide into and out of fabric pretty easily and without causing damage. They didn't have any rust on them (and they shouldn't rust as long as you keep them dry). The large heads make them relatively easy to grip. I probably don't need to buy pins for a long while, but if I did, I would definitely consider getting these again.
I'm actually new to sewing, even though I had some experience as a child. I never really did anything serious until now, and it seems I need pins to do the more advance stuff.
But about my experience with these pins. For the most part, they are pins and they do the job. However, I just got myself a pin cushion and decided to transfer the pins to the cushion for easier access than grabbing from the box. Out of 150 pins, 5 of them didn't even have a point on them. That's a little over 3%. It might not be a big deal since you get 150 of them. You are still paying for the 5 pins you can't use. It's not a lot of hassle to throw them out or sharpen them yourself, but WHY?
Also, a couple of the heads have already EXPLODED on me, while they are holding fabric together. I guess not a big deal either, but it is quite a lot more effort to pull a pin with no head out of some fabric that is near the sewing foot.
And last but not least, these pins are WAY too pliable. I suppose in some instances you want to get the pin to bend, especially with tougher materials so you don't bunch of the material, but for most work, I think these pins are too soft and bend too easily. Knowing this, I know 150-count won't last very long.
