    Product Description

    Product Description

Sony Camera Lenses SEL35F28Z The small size, versatile 35mm focal length, and outstanding overall performance of this Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* lens make it an ideal match for compact 35mm full frame format E-mount bodies. Although the optical design is state-of-the-art, this superb wide angle lens remains true to the original Sonnar concept with a bright F2.8 maximum aperture (“Sonne” means “sun” in German). Three double-sided aspherical elements minimize aberration so that stunning contrast and resolution are maintained right out to the image edges at all apertures. The renowned T* lens coating contributes to natural color reproduction as well. When changing your aperture to defocus the background, the light sources appear blurred. This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens. Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light. α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops. Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result. Aspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight. Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane. This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses. Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion. Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight. Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements are an evolved variant, featuring an extremely high thickness ratio between the center and periphery. AA elements are exceedingly difficult to produce, relying on the most advanced molding technology to consistently and precisely achieve the required shape and surface accuracy, resulting in significantly improved image accuracy and quality. Coated optics were pioneered by Carl Zeiss - and this superb lens features the Carl Zeiss T* (T-Star) coating that virtually eliminates lens flare, internal reflection and light scattering that can otherwise occur at glass-to-air surfaces. The T* coating contributes to outstanding image quality, with high contrast and uniformly excellent resolution right out to the image edges. Not simply applied to any lens - the T* symbol only appears on multi-element lenses in which the required performance has been achieved throughout the entire optical path, therefore guaranteeing the highest quality. Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance. Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter. The dust and moisture resistance design makes this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures. 2014 Sony Electronics All rights reserved. After 10 years I'm still using this.
Not the fastest lens for low-light, but still performs spectacular! I had the Sony 35 1.4 too, but it was such a special case usage for me so I sold/traded it. This gem is super light and gets the job done. Paired with the latest sensors, low-light is also not a big issue anymore.

+Very portable, matches perfectly with the a7/r
    +Fast focus
+Great for all around photography, street photography, hanging out, etc. Very versatile
+Sharp throughout most of the frame
+It's not a 1.8F (I wish), but because you are shooting with the a7, the full-frame allows you to get some nice bokeh if you isolate your subject with a distant background.

Last but not least: It is a Zeiss! the elegant colors it produces can not be matched (in my opinion) by other lenses. I have gotten some really unique images with this lens. The way a lens "feels" is a very important characteristic for me, this lens feels spectacular and it has just the right size and weight to match the a7, this makes me want to grab the camera and frame something in an artistic way, the results have been awesome! I highly recommend it!

I absolutely love this lens. It's small and light and has amazing Image Quality especially when stopped down a little. The Bokeh is nice even though f2.8 is a tad slow. People will complain about the cost but honestly this lens is absolutely incredible. The only lenses that will have as good IQ and not be absolutely massive are either higher end Leica lenses or the old Contax g mount Carl Zeiss lenses such as the Contax g2 Carl Zeiss 90mm f2.8 ( a must have lens for the sony a7 cameras).

    Pros
    - High IQ at any f stop, absolute beast when stopped down a tad say around f5.6 it becomes sharp as a tack.
    - Incredible contrast and micro-contrast
    - small, light, and goes incredibly well on the sony mirrorless cameras.
    - Focus ring is insanely smooth and butter-like.
    Cons
    - None as far as Optical Quality goes but the lens is made of plastic, albeit high quality plastic, but I would have paid a small premium for a metal version. The lens is very unassuming but to me it comes off as a bit boring, lacking character.

I absolutely love this lens! It's light, inconspicuous, sharp from corner to corner and it has that renowned "pop" Zeiss glass is known for. Personally, this is the focal length that I find closest to my own field of vision, so it's perfect as it's not too tight and not too wide. It's excellent for everyday use, especially for street photography and even in some portrait situations. This is a must in your gear bag!

This lens is exactly the type of thing I was looking for. Compact. Ridiculously sharp. Micro-contrast that puts Nikon and Canon glass to shame. Really. If you are looking, you probably suspect it is work spending a little extra for this lens. It is. Just buy it.

I bought a used copy of this lens from KEH here on Amazon and have been very happy with it. When mounted on my  Sony a7R II , it's a discreet camera+lens combo that's small and easy to carry and use for street photography and more. I used this lens on the A7RM2 almost exclusively on a recent trip; I also took a 24-70mm lens but rarely bothered to use it.

I really like this focal length, and had no focusing issues with this lens. It focused quickly, and my photos were sharp. I'm uploading a few shots taken with this lens on the A7RM2, not as great art but to show the versatility of this lens and the good results it gives me. Obviously, the camera is always part of the equation - and the A7RM2 is a really good camera. But I'm sure that I could mount this lens on my Sony a6000 and within the limits of that camera's abilities, get equally good performance.

I'm using it with the lens hood in place, which I'm OK with. It protects the lens. However, I'm finding the lens cap to be a little touchy, sometimes hard to get solidly in place. Also, because it's so small I kept misplacing it. I intend to buy a pack of off-brand 40.5 mm lens caps and carry a spare cap.

I have the Sony a7ii E-mount Camera with Full Frame Sensor and the Sonnar® T* FE 55 mm F1.8 ZA lens. I LOVE the camera and the lens. I take mostly portraits or people shots of some sort so it's a perfect combination. I sometimes need a little wider angle for a picture so I debated over the Sony 35mm F2.8 Sonnar T* FE ZA and the newer, much more expensive, Distagon T* FE 35 mm F1.4 ZA. I read SO many reviews about both. I am not a pro or a perfectionist, but I take lots of photos and I want great quality and beautiful results. I finally decided on the 2.8 because of price (I got it brand new for $698 when it was on sale recently) and size. I am so happy with this lens!! It is small and light. I drag my camera around with me everywhere and I get GREAT photos with it. I capture natural, everyday human shots with it. I don't know if the lens is perfect or not. I don't care. When I look out into the world, I don't check to see if it's the absolute perfect time of day for a photo or the child's clothes match or the fence post is straight or the sky is the perfect color blue. In the real world, when I'm just looking, my eyes don't search for perfection so I don't examine my photos for technical perfection. This is a very nice lens. I will never know how much better the 1.4 is or how it compares to the 2.8 because I am completely satisfied with the beautiful photos I get with this lens.
