Tucker's Spooky Halloween Board book – Picture Book, July 10, 2007

4.9 4.9 out of 5 stars 36 ratings

Oh, what to be for Halloween? A determined Tucker rolls out a very creative costume in a funny story young children will surely appreciate.

"HE'S SO-O-O-O-O CUTE!"

Tucker’s owner always dresses him as something cute for Halloween, like a pumpkin with a little orange hat. But this year Tucker doesn’t want to be cute — he wants to be spooky! Why does his owner insist that he wear a silly cowboy costume? Looks like it’s time for Tucker to put his paws to the cause and turn into something scary before the trick-or-treaters arrive! Little ones will laugh at this earnest pup’s efforts to make just the right statement on Halloween night.

From School Library Journal

PreS—Tucker wants to look scary this Halloween and not cute like he was last year, dressed as a pumpkin. His owner tries several traditional costumes on the small canine, including dressing him as a hot dog, a bumblebee, and in a Hawaiian outfit complete with hula skirt and lei, but the dog is not happy with the image they project. He drapes himself in a white sheet for a spooky ghost costume but the sheet won't stay on. Finally deciding to be a mummy, he wraps himself in toilet paper, runs to the door where he scares off two trick-or-treating children, and is greatly satisfied. The energetic, bright-white pup stands out on each of the richly colored pages. This simple story will appeal to very young children just beginning to celebrate the day.—Maryann H. As a child McGuirk was told repeatedly by adults and teachers that she had no talent as an artist. Despite the negativity, and with no training in art, she began selling whimsical T-shirts out of the back of her car and eventually became a famous designer in Japan, and an author and illustrator of over 20 children’s picture books which have sold over two million copies worldwide. She credits an astrologer, she went to at age 19, for putting her on her true path as a writer and illustrator. McGuirk believes being untrained and "wrong" has been the number one reason for her creative success, and knows that taking an awkward and intuitive path can lead to tremendous personal and creative success.

Her first adult book comes out in September 2016 with Harper Elixir, an imprint of Harper Collins entitled The Power of Mercury. This book helps people understand what astrology is really meant to do (which is not to be a fortune telling devise) but rather an amazing tool to help understand our internal wiring.

McGuirk has been studying astrology for over 30 years. She teaches regularly at Rancho La Puerta spa, in Tecate Mexico, as well as many other high-end spas, and resorts. In the corporate world, she has been a popular keynote speaker on the topic of creative inspiration.

This was our first Tucker book. We received it as a gift as we have a dog Tucker. It was an instant favorite. We just had to buy a new one, something got spilled in it and the pages all stuck together and ripped when pulled apart. We also ordered a couple others in the series. Very happy for prime shipping getting it here fast, avoiding multiple days of tears waiting for it!

I know, I know...it's supposed to be a kid's book. I promise to find one before Halloween so I can share Tucker with them! Another CHARMING, ORIGINAL and FUN book by Leslie McGuirk. Her drawings are as irresistible as the story. Don't wait for Halloween -- enjoy Tucker ANYTIME!

Although I don't have children of my own, I give the Tucker books to all of my friend's children! They were so excited to have a new addition to their Tucker library and we read it every time I'm at their house! It's been non-stop talking about Tucker's antics and how funny he is.

Tucker's at it again! We've been waiting for the next Tucker book and we weren't disappointed! This is a story told with warmth and charm, cute without being cutesy, Tucker tries to be spooky but grabs your heart instead. I see a new Halloween classic in this house!
