Product Description
For users migrating to small form factor (SFF) computers with large libraries of media files, storage capacity is often a compromise that is difficult to overcome. Choosing a smaller case may require additional purchase of external storage enclosure, while choosing a larger case with extra drive bays may defeat the purpose of going SFF in the first place. For seasoned enthusiasts looking to downsize even further beyond the popular DS380, silverstone created the CS280 that can pack up to nine 2.5" drives in nearly half the size of DS380! with the ability to accommodate components such as Mini-ITX motherboards, dual slot expansion card, and standard retail box CPU coolers, the CS280 can readily support most system build requirements. Equipped with two 80mm intake fans plus externally removable filter on the front, keeping everything cool and dust-free is as easy as in any silverstone chassis. Cs280's signature feature is a group of eight individually Lockable and hot-swappable drive cages for 2.5" drives. It utilizes a custom back panel PCB designed to support both SATA and SAS interface for increased compatibly with nearly all modern hard drives or SSDs. At only 11.8 liters overall, the impressively small CS280 is perfect for anyone looking to build a beautiful and even portable small form factor NAS for home or office.

My complaints :
You can't fit a graphics card inside the case due to the location of the disk bays, had they shifted a tiny bit to the right, it would fit.
Backplane had a bad bay - Silverstone replaced it quickly and I thank them. That works
You need to use 90 degree SATA/SAS cables to fit behind PSU. This is ok, but should have been in the manual
You cannot close the door of the chassis if you use spinning disks. I populated my bay with 8 10k 2.5" 900gb sas drives. If I close the front door of the case the drives overheat, overheating the whole computer. Even with the case off, if you close the door the disks turn into the hottest things ever.
The cooling again on this door thing... There is only a few small vertical holes at the bottom of the door to draw air in. This isn't adequate for the two fans in the front.
There is no cooling for the disk bays. Not an issue if you use SSD's but how many home users will spend the coin of 8x 1tb ssd's?
What I like:
It's small
It's quiet
It's handsome (when I can close the door)
What can be improved? Cool the dang blang disks and add some grates in the front chassis door for airflow... like wtf, why should I go drilling holes in my new case because of a bad design.
Top reviews from other countries
When the chassis is in operation, I get some audible noise fan. My previous NAS was more quiet, so I can't give this one full marks for the noise.
When assembling the chassis, then the metal construction feels a bit thin and on the cheap side. Definitely watch out not to cut your fingers on some sharp edges when mounting the chassis. One major negative point is that there is extremely little space between the panel where the SATA cables plug in and the power supply, of you go for a standard SFX power supply. You'd have to buy SATA cables with L-shaped connectors, and even then there is very little space.
Other than the space and noise problem, the chassis has been working fine for months now. So as long as I don't have to open it again, I'm happy with it.
