I purchased this hood even though there were some bad reviews. One in particular rated it a one star. I think the person that wrote that review had some hidden agenda because I love this thing. I bought an additional battery so that I could always have one that is charged and ready to go. The hood works great and the air flow is high enough to keep the faceplate from fogging yet the fan is quiet enough I can listen to my ipod using the Bluetooth speakers as long as I keep the speakers near the lathe. I would recommend this hood to anyone who does lathe work of sanding. As for the claims that the headband is easy to break, I have been using this hood for quite a while and as long as you don't mistreat it you shouldn't have any problems.

The Trend Airshield Pro is everything I hoped it would be. I find it comfortable and the setup was very easy. I ordered the set with the battery cradle and also ordered an extra battery. I charged both for 24 hours as instructed and have no problem at all with the unit. I read where the charger is not a "smart charger" and could fry the batteries if over charged. That is the only negative I have found.

The price was steep but then again, you can't put a value on your lungs and your health. I look forward to using the Airshield Pro every time I get out to my shop and turn wood.

UPDATE - 6/20/2014
The headband broke right behind the upper strap. It looks like a defect because it broke clean off without any pressure on it. The other side is cracked as well. I read a previous review where this happened and Trend sent a new one stating it was defective. I'm disappointed that I will have to go through the trouble of contacting them to get it resolved.

UPDATE - 2/13/2015 I contacted Trend and they sent out a new upper strap and I received it in 2 days (In June 2014). It broke again this month (Feb 2015) and they sent a new one (in 2 days), but this one appears to be stronger and better made than the original and the first replacement. Their quick response turned a negative into a positive for me!

I really would like to see them offer a smart charger with this set up, in order to avoid overcharging the batteries. I bought two batteries with my Airshield pro and just recently forgot one of them on the charger too long and it no longer takes a charge. I have seen on youtube, some videos about making your own smart charger. I may have to do that but sure wish Trend would offer it as a standard part. Overall, still love the Airshield. A great product!!!!

Been waiting for a while to review this. I've used it several times weed eating and mowing. It's like I'm watching from another room while doing work. No more dirt, grass, leaves, etc. in my nose, eyes, and mouth. I live in Texas and it hasn't gotten super hot yet, so the jury's still out on how hot it gets, but I used to use a mask and that was super hot and I hated it. Now I put on my earbuds, turn on my i pod, put my shades on, then turn the airshield on and put it on. The motor is constantly pumping filtered air to your face, which is awesome. I'm not breathing my own exhaust fumes like I was with a mask. The only improvements I could recommend would be a fabric head strap instead of plastic and a lighter color (like white) to help with use in direct sunlight. I've gotten approx. 8 hrs. out of the battery before it needed charging - FYI (I recommend purchasing the additional battery in case it runs out on you while you're working). This is a nickel battery, so only recharge it when it's totally dead or you'll shorten the life of the battery. It's not like a lithium (wish they had a lithium battery for it). Hope this helps.

I bought this product back in 2011. The batteries don't last and are crazy expensive to replace. I am also on my 3rd headband which are around 60 bucks. The headbands dry out and break sitting on the shelf. I don't use the thing often because it is heavy and hot and restricts my vision. I put a new headband on the thing two years ago, went to use it and it had broken in two places just sitting there. Real quality problems for something that costs so much.

I am as concerned about my respitory health as the next person, so when I decided to indulge in wood working on a full time basis
I decided to protect my lungs. I tried all the mask etc. and they just where not adequate enough protection. I looked for a contained breathing unit and the only real choice was the Airshield pro, but the price was outrageous. By the time you buy a few acessories its close to $500. Ok you say what are my lungs worth so I bite the bullet and buy one. I get the unit and it does a reasonable job filtering the dust out. Then after about a week the sweat band falls off and there really is no way to attach back on so I tape it with, yes duct tape. After a few more weeks the head band wont stay snug and the cowling rubber finish starts peeling off. I keep using the unit because I dont want to be without it. then the head band breaks. I figure I would just buy one after all the quality is that of a cheap hard hat band so what can it cost. Try $65. While Im looking at head bands I read some of the reviews people write and I find out that airpro has had a recall on the headband and one fellow writes how great it is that Airpro has fixed the problem and notified people who purchased the units and replaced the head bands.
News flash they did not notify me. Of course I'm not real happy with the Airpro people at this point. I say why for the price they charge didnt they use better quality headbands in the first place. I have to wonder did they even test the units before putting them on the shelve for sale. Suffice it to say that if there where another choice I would recommend the other choice.
I have to give Amazon their due they have been great when it came to replaceing the unit.
Thankyou Amazon

4.0 out of 5 stars Even at -20 and under visibility is good even even when working strenuously

I bought two of these helmets, plus execessaries, for use in my grain cleaning business. In cold weather when a cloth dust mask is worn with eye protection the goggles/glasses fog up. These helmets work. They keep out dust and they don't fog up. Even at -20 and under visibility is good even even when working strenuously. We have worn them in extreme dust with contaminated/vomi grain with no effect to eyes or breathing. Excellent purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Airshield recommendation
Reviewed in Canada on January 6, 2017
I have had the Airshield for more than a year now. It filters well and has resolved breathing issues while wood turning, particularly while wearing glasses. After extended periods it can be a little heavy on the neck and head, but worth the safety value. I recommend having a second battery with charger stand, so that you can keep working, since the recharge time is quite long.
I did have the headband break, recently, and Trend is sending a free replacement without any questions asked. Good product, but better Customer Service focus.
