Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Customers like the tracking of the wearable computer. They say it accurately tracks their activity, including steps, active minutes, calories, sleep, and heart rate. They like that it's easy to monitor their physical activity and that it allows them to trace activities to how they slept. The app tracks steps, but all it shows is the number of steps that day. Some say the sleep tracking and mobile app are pretty good, and that the sensors are quite good. They also say the ring is waterproof and can be worn anywhere.

"...Alternatively, when I walk in the evenings, the ring reads the distance pretty accurately (3.9 miles on the map, 3.8 miles on Motiv)...." Read more
"...Maybe it logs steps with just hand movements. Once I can get it verified that it is tracking it accurately, I'll add a star...." Read more
"...I’ve also liked tracking my heart rate over time (and seeing how alcohol affects it — oy!)..." Read more
Customers like the appearance of the wearable computer. They say it's nice looking, looks like a regular piece of jewelry, and the finish and color are still fine. The form factor is attractive, and it does what it says. Some customers say that the product is an interesting idea, but the execution is poor.
"...I also love the idea that it's a relatively sleek looking ring, rather than a big watch that would have to replace my existing watch..." Read more

Customers like the comfort of the wearable computer. For example, they say it's comfortable to wear, easy to wear and doesn't slip off or have any issues with sweaty hands. The ring is small and unobtrusive, and blends with their skin. Some customers also mention that it'd be a great option for those who don't want to wear a watch.

Customers are mixed about the performance of the wearable computer. Some mention that it's been functioning well within its own app and is impressed with all the functionality they packed into such a small ring. Some mention that the battery is great, while others say that it doesn't last as long as advertised, the ring would not keep a charge, and the battery needs to be charged daily. Some customers also mention that it runs the battery down when it's in "update" mode. The ring itself needs to charged daily, and it discharging the battery at a rate of 1% per second.

I've been wearing Motiv non-stop for 6 months now. At this point it has become a part of how I think about my day: every morning I check how well I've slept, every evening I check how active I was. This is by far the most unobtrusive and convenient tracker I've owned. It helped me to become more active and pushed me to fix my sleep.
ORDERING PROCESS AND SIZING
The process is a little unusual, but very straightforward. Once you've ordered your ring on Amazon, what you get is actually not the device itself, but a sizing kit. The kit contains 7 "sizers", exact plastic renderings of the Motiv, in different sizes, instructions and a secret code. You pick a fitting size, go on their website, create an account, type in the code, printed on the sizing kit box, select the ring size you want and viola - get your device shipped to you.
You would do well choosing one of the fingers (except a thumb, and probably not a pinky) of your non-dominant hand. I went with my left hand middle finger, for several obvious reasons. Once you've picked a finger you want to wear the ring on, you want to wear a replica for a day or two. The simple reasoning is that fingers change their shape slightly as we go through our day, do sports, drink and eat, sleep etc. Motiv needs to fit snugly, but you don't want to feel discomfort either, so trying a several sizes for a day or two actually makes a lot of sense. After I've set my mind on the right size, I went ahead and ordered the actual device. Got it 3 days later.
UNBOXING
The box the ring came in has a premium, smooth design. It feels like they went with an Apple-like feel for the package (who doesn't these days?). The ring is affixed on a small pedestal in the middle, attracting all the attention right away. I wanted to put it on immediately - and I did. But, as I was prompted by the software a little later, the ring needs to be charged first.
RING DESIGN
The ring is slightly larger than your old-style non-decorated male wedding ring, but is surprisingly light. It feels almost hollow when you hold it on the palm your hand. It weighs just 2.5 grams (0.088 oz), I guess that's what you get when you use titanium! Inside, the ring has a couple of magnetic brass-colored contacts - that where the charger latches on. Outside, Motiv is all metal, except for a tiny plastic window - that's where the antennas and the LED indicator go.
It is amazing how much battery the designers were able to fit into this tiny body! Motiv lasts for 3 days initially, with the battery life shortening a little after some usage. After 6 months of everyday use mine still lasts about 2.5 days.
After 6 months the ring got scratched a little here and there. But, if anything, I like a worn look even better. It's like a pair of well-worn boots, has character.
COMFORT
After about a week of wearing Motiv, I stopped noticing that I'm wearing it at all. Sizing here seems to be the key: fingers grow and shrink slightly as you go through your day, so if you pick a tighter size it might prove less unobtrusive to wear long term. I definitely haven't owned a more comfortable activity tracker and basically never take it off now, except for charging and when I'm in the gym. Doing weights in the gym or carrying heavy items are the only times when I find issues with having Motiv on: metal of the barbell damages the coating and the ring presses uncomfortably into the finger under load.
I was worried, that the charging contacts will cause discomfort, but in reality I don’t even feel they are there.
SOFTWARE
I've only used Motiv's Android app so far. It has evolved quite a bit in the 4 month I've been using Motiv, going from pretty basic to quite full featured, including a two factor authentication feature, that I use quite a bit and quite happy about. The performance of the app on my (somewhat dated) 1st generation Google Pixel is not superb, but decent. Occasionally, the ring stops syncing with the phone; disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth, rebooting the phone or restarting the app background thread fixes it.
Motiv syncs with your phone every hour or so automatically. Rotating the ring in one direction 3 times forces a synchronization process. The indicator on the ring is flashing blue during the sync process.
2-FACTOR AUTH
Motiv can act as a 2-factor authentication token (e.g. for your Gmail account). All you need to do is go through a setup flow on your phone and, when 2-factor is needed, you just rotate the ring back and forth several times. Works pretty reliable and is really convenient.
ACTIVITY TRACKING
At the point of the review, the Motiv app tracks:
- number of steps taken through the day
- number of active minutes
- length and quality of of sleep
I personally find 2 use cases most useful: automatic tracking of activity periods and sleep tracking.
Motiv starts recording your heart rate immediately after you start moving actively. Let’s say you go for a run. After you are done, the Motiv app presents you with an automatic record of how long your workout was and what was your heart doing throughout the entire exercise. I find it very convenient, that the periods of active walks are recorded that way to: I was able to calibrate how long it takes me to walk to a grocery store, to my office, to my gym etc. Knowing how long those walks take also helps me to push a little harder: it feels like a little competition with myself.
Sleep tracking is the crown jewel for me. The ring is comfortable enough, that it doesn't bother me when I'm sleeping. That means that every morning I can check how long I have actually slept and how was my sleep quality during the night. And boy oh boy I was surprised: I thought that I slept 1-2 hours longer than I actually did! And I don't even remember some of the wake-ups Motiv registers! Thanks to all that data, I was able to correct some of my sleep issues (hint: you might need a new mattress). I now go to bed earlier, wake up with the first rays of sunlight and am full of energy in the morning.
In addition, the ring monitors your resting heart rate when you sleep. RHR has been shown to correlate strongly with how fit an individual is. High RHR is also a sign of high level of stress or, potentially, a heart issue. One more valuable metric to track!
COMPARISON WITH OTHER TRACKER TYPES
I do own a Fitbit, a Samsung smartwatch and do activity monitoring on my Android smartphone. The most accurate seems to be the smartwatch, but Motiv is not far behind. Comfort-wise though, Motiv blows everything out of the water. For instance, I can't imagine sleeping in either wearing my watch or the Fitbit, while doing that wearing the ring is not a problem at all.

BUT -- and here's where things start going downhill -- it took literally monthS (plural) to complete the trade! Support was initially responsive and accommodating to my requests for expedited shipping to reduce loss of data. They agreed to send me the replacement with priority shipping, and to do so as soon as I provided a receipt or tracking number proving I'd shipped the original (as opposed to waiting for it to arrive at their facility). When it came time to send it, however, Support decided to start ignoring me. I asked for confirmation multiple times, nervous to put this in the mail without them being ready to send the replacement. They finally got back to me a week later, backpeddling on our previous arrangement. I kept at it, showing evidence of the arrangement, etc and they eventually just stopped responding to me altogether. Sigh. At this point all I want is to replace it, even if the previous months of communication are now wasted, so I finally just stuck it in the mail and provided them with the receipt and tracking number hoping for the best. About a week later, I received an email saying they received my original, but were now out of stock and I had to wait. Sigh again.
I was handed off to a new representative around the holidays, who almost immediately found a replacement for me (why couldn't the last person find any stock?) and shipped it out right away. This guy was wonderful all around and I was glad I was lucky enough to have him helping me in the end. All in all, it took a little over a month from the time I placed my ring in the mail until I received the replacement (talk about loss of data).
But our story does not end there. Fast forward 1 month and 1 day. The replacement ring stops working. It syncs to the app, but no data is uploaded. I charge it up fully, try again... no good. I let it fully discharge and charge to 100% again... still nothing. I unpair the ring and pair it again... nope. Now at a full charge, the ring is discharging battery at a rate of 1% per second. Yep... the ring now only lives for a maximum of 100 seconds. So here we are starting the whole Support song and dance again. I am currently at Day 21 without data. It's been 17 days since I first contacted Support and I have sent 8 emails in total outlining my troubleshooting steps and asking for updates... all of which have gone unanswered.
Needless to say, this company is not at all reliable and I would absolutely not recommend them to anyone. I liked the product and thought it was worth the pricetag and even worth the terrible Support until things went sour and I actually needed help. For a product this expensive, it should not crap out in a month. For a product of any price, one would expect at least an acknowledgement from Support when it stops working.

I had to return it as it was useless. A complete waste of time and money.
