    *UPDATED* G2X Pro review
*UPDATE* My new flashlight arrived and I used it extensively over the weekend, and it performed great. The switch works perfectly fine and the workmanship is flawless. Some things I would like to point out on this light (600 lumens) vs the older version (320 lumens). In the picture the tan one is the 600, the black one is the 320 that I've had for about 6 years. The 320 lumen version uses a Nichia 219 l.e.d. which is known for their high CRI (color rendering index) which makes it extremely easy on the eyes and actually appears "brighter" due to being able to see more depth in your surroundings. The 600 lumen version uses a Cree XPL l.e.d which is extremely efficient and a very powerful emitter. The reflector on the 600 lumen version is slightly rougher, lending to a slightly more floody throw compared to the older version. In the picture you can see the slight tint difference between the two, and the slightly more "bronze" natural daylight color of the 320 lumen light. While the output is nice on the new version, I would have liked to see Surefire keep the Nichia l.e.d. and add a slight lumen increase and add a glass lens over the plastic, which is prone to scratching easily. Overall this is a great flashlight and I am now happy with my purchase. *ORIGINAL REVIEW*This is the 4th Surefire product that I have had issues with. This one was dead on arrival, right out of the package. The tailcap had something broken inside of it and it would only flicker when pressed, and sometimes turn on when I wasnt even touching the button. The batteries were not the issue, I tried new ones and the same thing happened.I really hate to bash a company, but i have had nothing but issues with surefire products. Everything from broken reflectors right out of the box, water ingress in rain, green tint, and now d.o.a. switches. I have tons of Streamlight products and never have I had an issue with them. I highly reccomend a Streamlight Polytac over the G2X flashlight any day. The G2X uses plastic lenses and are not IPX rated to keep them protected in water, where the Polytac uses a glass lens and is IPX-7 rated to be submersible for 30 minutes. Also, with Surefire if you want the light to come on in high mode only, you have to buy the tactical version. If you want two modes, you have to purchase the pro version. You're forced to choose one or the other based on what you think you will use the most. The Polytac is programmable where you can have both high/low and high only in the same light by simply programming it. Again, i hate to bash the Surefire but I'm highly dissapointed based on the money I spent. There are way better option available for a lot less money. I requested a replacement for this light, so I will update this as soon as I receive the new one and test it out.

Top reviews from the United States

Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020
This SureFire flashlight is outstanding. Let’s start there. All SureFire flashlights are made in America, which is a big deal for me as I don’t buy many things that are not. It’s tough, has a watertight case, has two power settings (low is 15 lumens, high is 600 lumens), it’s lightweight and small enough to carry in your pocket, and it throws an outstanding beam of light. This torch will last you a looooooong time if you take care of it and is worth the higher price (compared to most) because of its durability and performance. I bought my first SureFire flashlight while serving in the United States Army and haven’t used another kind since.

This particular model I’ve previously owned, although it was the lesser 400 lumen model, so I knew what I was buying. This SureFire has been upgraded from 400 lumens to 600 lumens. So it’s MUCH brighter.

Now, to address the most common complaints I see from others. The main problem people seem to have is battery life. First of all, if you have EVER owned a flashlight before, batteries never last long. Particularly so when you’re dealing with very high lumens. The higher the lumens, the more power required. That being said, and I can’t stress this enough, LIGHT DISCIPLINE is your friend! Light discipline simply means using the flashlight when you need it, use the appropriate power setting as needed, and TURNING IT OFF when you don’t. If you practice proper light discipline you’ll find you will get the most out of your battery life. This torch is no different than any other in that respect. For me, I RARELY find the need to use the highest setting and almost always use the low mode (unless I need to see something very far away). The fact is that most people complaining about this are not knowledgeable in this respect and are leaving the torch on high, all the time, for no real reason and are draining the battery.

The only other complaint people seem to have is quite frankly, as silly as silly can be. This torch has two modes: Low mode which outputs 15 lumens and high mode which outputs 600 lumens. When you active the light by pushing in the rear button the light will default to the low mode. To switch to high mode from low mode you quickly double click the button. This will turn the light off for a moment until the second click activates high mode. There is no way to go straight to high mode and if you don’t quickly click to button, it won’t activate high mode. This is engineered this way for a reason. Want to guess what it is? LIGHT DISCIPLINE!!! SureFire flashlights are made to be tactical. For that very reason SureFire flashlights are made to help you maximize efficiency in battery life, as well as to minimize light pollution when it’s very unwanted (think being in the military and not wanting to accidentally alert your enemy to your exact location, like a 600 lumens beam of light will do). Pretty smart idea, isn’t it? And let’s face it, if quickly double clicking a button is a taxing experience for you, you’re probably NEVER going to be anywhere where you need a flashlight like this.

Now for my ONE AND ONLY complaint. It’s not about the flashlight itself but with the availability of cr123a batteries and the price for them. Most stores won’t have them. Walmart and other large retail stores, mainly stores that carry professional quality cameras WILL carry them but they won’t come cheap. I purchase two different brands of batteries for my SureFire; the SureFire branded batteries themselves which are about $18 for a box of 12 and off brand batteries that can be found right here on Amazon. I can usually find off brand batteries in a box of 12 on Amazon for about $15 that work just was well as the SureFire brand batteries. One key detail you should MAKE SURE YOU CHECK FOR before buying off brand is the voltage. High drain batteries are what you need and that will require a voltage of at least 3 volts. Many of these batteries will be 1.5v which will drain much more quickly and not deliver the performance you expect. So, REMEMBER, buy 3 to 3.7 volt cr123a batteries (rechargeables also work). Another quick point about the battery life in terms of performance. The torch performance does not diminish as the battery level is drained, all the way up to the point of the battery’s death. This torch will either have the power to work at maximum capability or it will not. So, when your batteries are low, there will be zero doubt.

All that being said, if you’re looking for a brilliant torch built to stand the tests of time, durability, performance, and tactical usefulness, there’s no better and well built brand of torch on any market. Yes, you will pay a little more than you would for most flashlights but you’re getting the best in the class.

Do yourself a favor and end your search for the perfect flashlight right here.

This was recommended by a friend and he did not mislead! This has a normal brightness and then a level of brightness straight from the supernatural. We ultimately decided to keep it in the truck for all emergency uses and I will be getting a couple more. Comes with an extra pack of batteries too.

I have several of these Surefire G2X flashlights. They offer a nice combination of quality, durability and simple functionality, e.g. three clicks for high, low and off with no flashing option. I have other brands which are less expensive, but these are my go to lights for backpacking and security in my home.
