I wasn’t aware that echo came with the microwave, and sent the dot back. But… if I’m standing in front of the microwave and have to push a button to get Alexa to heat my coffee for a minute, why can’t I just push the button that says heat one minute? This seems like a way to overcomplicate the life of a guy who really wants to scale things back a Little.
E:one year update: some how moisture retention caused it to rust where the door closes. It’s still serviceable and works, it’s just kinda ugly. I think I might have opted for a more expensive one in the future. Also, the amount of times it has dropped connection to the echo has been annoying because connecting it back up to it is more complicated than just pushing a button. So definitely don’t toss your manual for it.
Original review: Originally the reason it was purchased was so that my teen wouldn’t have to work out how the timer worked on it. Our poor first microwave was not as smart and they accidentally put some dry noodles in for 20 minutes, which destroyed it. I was a little skeptical of purchasing a microwave that used WiFi and came with a device to voice control it since usually technically just makes things more complicated instead of easier. It actually works as it is intended though and I have absolutely come to love it and how easy it makes using it. It was easy to set up and get connected to use voice control. It had been many decades since I had used a microwave (we had our old one for many a week), so just asking our echo has been a godsend since it seems to know the correct amount of time to cook everything.
One more small fun thing about it is that when it is connected to the internet, it sets it’s own time correctly after a power outage!
The microwave is a good value. It has been funning for a few years without any issues and does well. It is important to remember that it is 600 watts and so heating up food will take a bit longer but it does fit in a small space and Alexa intergrates well with it.
Have this upstairs just to reheat coffee and make microwave popcorn. Works great and is cheap. Popcorn bags are too big to spin on the turntable, but it seems to work fine for me anyway. I have to manually set a time like 3 minutes, and then kill it when things stop popping before they burn.
I love this microwave, I have had it for a year now from my dorm to my apartement and it has been great. Moving is easy as it’s not too large but it is large enough to fit a full plate inside. You can hook it up to Alexa which is great because in a dorm there is minimal space and I had this on one of the lower shelves and being able to not have to hunch over and just tell Alexa to microwave it was very cool. Only bad thing that I could say about it is that the word start on the button has already started to wear off.
When our large built-in microwave quit working I knew it would take some time for repair. I decided to find a smallish countertop unit as a stopgap. I saw this unit and kind of thought why would I ever want to talk to a microwave? Now I know. I can be standing at my cooktop preparing whatever and voice command whatever I have placed in the microwave to start cooking at the appropriate moment without going near it. The other bonus is not having to clean the keypad. Day in day out, this little oven performs as well as it's big brother. I highly recommend.
This was my very first Alexa compatible device I purchased. I recently moved out of state and needed a microwave and I've used it for about two months now. If you are looking for a simple and easy to use microwave and you don't currently have any Echo devices, then I would recommend this, especially because it comes with the Echo Dot so you don't to buy an Echo Device separately. I never thought I would use Echo devices (because I didn't really need them), but I needed a microwave and this deal came with the Echo Dot, so I said "why not?" It's affordable and the Echo actually turned out to be convenient for when my hands were wet or oily from water or food, so the exterior of the microwave never gets dirty. I think this product would be very useful for college students or anyone that relocates to a new city or state and needs an affordable microwave.
