Tiny Gem!

Tiny Gem!
To start, I must say I had no prior knowledge of 'Barbara Walker' or her work so this was a blind impulse sort of purchase for me. I had only seen a few images online and was instantly magnetized to the particular style of the artwork. It's clean and simplistic like the Rider Waite Smith style with a depth and intensity to it that feels different than the rest of the decks I've experienced.I just worked with this deck recently and although a bit on the darker side of art and symbolism I normally gravitate towards, I'm very happy to expand my deck collection with this gem. I like that it's pocket sized and comes in the tiny tin.It comes with a tiny booklet of about 46 pages, no pics or much content go by, (black and white). This deck doesn't have good card stock so if that's a deal breaker then this probably isn't your deck. It's also not for the faint of heart. There are quite a few images that could be too "graphic" for more sensitive individuals, I've posted two photos that include any of the ones I figured would be helpful (last two pics). Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and feel that this will really add to my craft.

Her book "The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets" changed my life in 1983 and inspired me to teach about the Feminine Divine, the Goddess Energy. I became a Vedic Astrologer and Channel at the age of 30 and someone gifted me this Tarot Deck when I was 36. She did not know the impact that Barbara Walker had on my life so this was a very special gift. I have been using the deck since 1996. I created a beautiful page on Facebook called Goddess Central in honor of the Goddess and the woman who opened the door to the infinite beauty of the feminine divine.

My dainty little fingers LOVE small tarot decks, while the tin makes it easy to carry in my handbag. This deck is just the right size—images are still clear. My photo has it next to a standard sizes RWS deck. It seems to be Thoth-like with the keywords printed on them. This is useful and interesting, although some of the meanings might differ from what you read in other decks. The cards are full of fascinating mythology. I have yet to read the book Barbara Walker has written about it, but it has peaked my curiosity, looking up old gods like Atargatis and Dagon. But the 2 of Wands in this deck cracks me up every time I see it. I don’t know what’s going on in that card, but I love the idea of that guy seeing himself as a voluptuous woman.

Bought this as a secondary copy to my original, and I have to say I'm not a fan of the new printing like maybe the borders are wonky? It might just be because I've been looking at the original print for almost 20 years now, but overall it doesn't distract me from how amazing these cards are. Card size is great for travel, tin keeps them much safer than a bag or tuck box ever could, and the fact that Barbara Walker was so diverse in her mythology tied to each card is an incredibly underrated feature of this deck. Still prefer the original printing, but the cardstock feels just about the same and it'll keep my vintage copy safe and sound.

This deck is amazing!! It's a little treat that packs a punch. I get extremely accurate readings with this little deck and I feel I am able to read the spreads so easily bc of the vibrant colors and vivid images. The words on the cards are also helpful for new readers. Sometimes the readings are a little too accurate lol. This is a hidden gem. I wanna buy another just in case. Def buy.
Oh, and the guidebook it comes with is actually awesome and very informative on the deities used on the cards themselves, and their background. Which also gives a nice spin on the traditional meanings in a way.

Cardstock is very thin and flimsy but useable. Cards are adorable. I’m planning on trimming the sides to the artwork while leaving the titles. Edging it black although I’m sure it will bleed.

i love the size and quality of these cards. i love the tin. the cards fit perfectly in my hand, shuffle excellently, have a nice matte finish, and seem very durable. i enjoy the art work, but when you lay out a spread, it quickly becomes clear how dark and gloomy this deck is. the tops of the cards are literally stamped with words such as: doom, failure, cruelty, oppression, disillusionment. some cards have sort-of positive words like: passage, success, balance, romance. the few positives don't make up for the overall tone. if the pictures speak to you, i would say get the deck. it's worth it for the size alone. i thought most readers were women, so i don't know why most decks are made for folks with giant, bird-swatting hands, but the shuffle and feel of perfectly sized cards make this deck *almost delightful. the LWB has wonderful info about ancient deities and myths and some unique interpretations. the descriptions don't really match the darkness of the imagery.

The fact that these cards are small does not take away the impact of the images. It is still stunning. There are no reversals and Barbara Walker justifies her reason for using the 11 card as Strength instead of the 8 in her book of tarot explanations. Overall a great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mazo práctico y pequeño
Reviewed in Mexico on May 14, 2020
