Product Description
Fino’s Stainless Steel Milk Frother easily aerates milk and cream into a thick, rich foam for topping delectable hot and cold beverages. With a generous 14-ounce capacity, create frothed milk for several servings in seconds with very little effort. The lid features a built-in plunger with a double-mesh aerator, much like a French Press, and easy-grip handle on top. No electric required or batteries to replace. More economical than battery powered frothers and expensive espresso machines. Easily froth chilled or warmed milks, from whole milk, skim or goat milk, to hemp milk, almond milk, soy or cashew milk, and other non dairy milk. The milk frothing pitcher, also called a milk foamer, is so easy to use. Simply measure chilled or warmed milk into the frothing pitcher and place the plunger inside, making sure the lid is on securely. Pump the handle up and down, about 30-60 seconds, until foam has desired consistency. To serve, raise the plunger and hold back the milk froth with the lid. Pour the underlying un-frothed milk into beverages, then gently float the foam that remains on top of the beverage. A great addition to specialty coffee accessories, foam transforms fresh-brewed coffee into specialty coffee drinks, like cappuccino, a traditional cafe au latte or festive eggnog latte, caramel macchiato, mocha, Irish coffee or iced coffee. Elevate conventional hot chocolate to peppermint hot chocolate and white hot chocolate, and ordinary to extraordinary, with warm milk and honey or coconut milk chai tea latte, finish craft cocktails, like dulce de leche and mudslides, with panache, and more. Made from 18/8 stainless steel and nylon, Fino’s Milk Frother is durable, versatile, easy to use, and top-rack dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.

The biggest downside of this frother is the length of time that it takes to heat the milk. I use lactose-free 2% (which I mention as different milks react different ways). Some people heat the milk in the microwave (in a different cup, as this one is stainless steel) and then transfer to the milk frother, some people use the stove (~10 minutes). I prefer to use the microwave as it's faster. I heat in a microwavable cup and then transfer to the pitcher to finish on the stove so as not to scorch the milk on the bottom of the pitcher and since it takes a shorter amount of time there is less likely for a skin to form on top of the milk. One of the trickiest parts is getting the amount of milk just right. I tend to make one coffee at a time but this is also capable of making two. As people have mentioned, you fill the cup 1/4-1/2 (I tend to use less ~1/4-1/3). The amount of frothed milk however doesn't change as the milk tends to fill the entire cup when frothed. Therefore, the amount of milk is a bit much for one coffee or a bit too little for two but you can certainly make it work (also depends on cup size obviously). The amount of milk you add will determine how much froth is made. The less milk, the more frothy. The more milk, the less frothy.
I bought a $6 milk thermometer and find it very necessary to get the milk right. It also makes the whole process much easier. Milk should be heated to between 150 and 160 degrees, though I find this particular frother works best from ~150-153. This allows the proteins in the milk to be denatured but not destroyed. Too cold or too hot and the milk does not froth. This is also what makes the milk a bit sweeter. I make the coffee when the temperature of the milk is 135-140 so that the coffee is ready when the milk is. I pour the coffee and then immediately froth the milk.
Clean up is not too tough with this. I just spray the frother after each use which cleans the screen. The cup tends to accumulate burned on milk so occasionally I put a bit of dish detergent in the cup and boil water in it on the stove. It's also dishwasher safe and I run both parts through a couple times a week on the top rack.
After having it a while and getting to know how it works, I really like how easy and well it works. I will likely get two more (one smaller for 1 cup coffee and one larger for 3-4 cups).
This unit does an excellent job of frothing the milk. I have tried it with whole milk, 2%, half-and-half, and a combination of those. In all cases, I got a nice, thick, creamy foam. Have not been able to achieve a stiff, dry foam with this so, if that's your pleasure, you may need to look elsewhere.
The plunger mechanism isn't perfect as some milk tends to leak through the hole in the top as you pump. You can't really hold onto the handle when pumping because the lid/pumping mechanism has a tendency to lift up a bit, breaking the seal and causing milk to seep out around the rim. I have taken to placing a rolled-up paper towel around the edge and holding the lid down as I pump. This absorbs any leaks and protects my hand from getting burned. The container gets hotter and hotter as you pump because the hot milk expands and fills more and more of the pitcher.
Cleaning is a piece of cake. I just rinse it when I'm done so the milk doesn't stick and then run it through the dishwasher on the top rack.
I am not sure about the complaints that the item isn't made of stainless steel. Mine seems to be. Even so, I want it to last so I don't put it on the stove burner. Instead, I warm my milk in a glass measuring cup in the microwave. That way I get the perfect temperature every time and it doesn't damage the pitcher.
I'm hoping this frother lasts longer than my first one. If not, it'll be time to upgrade to a fancy electric frother/steamer.
