I ordered this whisk to replace one we lost somehow. We have had two 8" whisks for a long time, and one was a little narrower than the other. Otherwise, they were pretty similar: Lightweight, perfect for 9 whisk uses out of 10 (we also have a big whisk, needed only occasionally). When one got lost, I looked for a replacement, and this one seemed good enough. Well, it's better than the other ones put together! Sturdy, heavier, inexpensive, a very nice implement. I'm sure it will last a lifetime--unless we lose it.

My mother had a spring galaxy whisk when I was a kid and I loved using it for making mapeline syrup. I want one for gravy's and roux and this whisk is perfect those as well because it's able scrap the bottom of the pot/pan unlike a traditional whisk.
I ordered this whisk in 2018 (it's now 2023) and in all those years it still looks brand new despite being washed in a dishwasher hundreds of times and tossed in draw full of other metal utensils. No spots, no rust, the handle doesn't retain water. Great whisk!

I have a very old spring whisk, but it has a wire handle and is only about 7" long. I needed something longer to reach into deeper bowls and pots as well as something a little easier to hold. This tool meets those requirements.

I can't tell if the whole thing is stainless and the whisk part something else, but it appears no different than my old one. The only difference I noted and why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 - the whisk part is not as large, the wire is not quite as thick and it's not as "springy" as my old one. A little more size, wire thickness and spring would make this perfect.

That said, I like it and am happy with the purchase. This thing is great on sauces, gravies and eggs. Puts a great fluff on eggs and whipped cream and keeps gravies and sauces smooth.

Update 09/23/2014: I'm upgrading this to 5 stars. As it turns out, the smaller whisk head size is an advantage - it fits nicely into a measuring cup and allows room to whisk. Ditto the slightly thinner wire - makes it more useful in small containers. This whisk has had heavy use and is doing a great job. I do think it is stainless - it's been through my dishwasher numerous times and no rust.

It does a good job of whisking together ingredients quickly and feels like it will last for several years. I would recommend it for any basic baking/cooking needs.
