A thoroughly enjoyable game. Have played previous 2. This one is a darker story.

A thoroughly enjoyable game. Have played previous 2. This one is a darker story.
This may not be the best entry in the franchise, as Rise of the Tomb Raider is tough to top. That being said, it's quite a ride.First things first, the visuals and sound are fantastic. Lara looks and moves like as realistic of a video game character as you'll ever see. I have been playing on an OG Xbox One and projector that actually only does 720p, but the graphics are incredible and the environments are a marvel. The game has a photo mode that I've used a few times just to admire how far Xbox One graphics have come.As far as the gameplay, there are no surprises here if you've played either of the previous games, or an Uncharted game on PlayStation. The basics of it are run, jump, climb, swim, shoot, hide, solve puzzles, repeat. Lara controls well and overall I wouldn't call the game on normal difficulty too challenging. That being said, there are always parts of platformers like this one where you're supposed to jump just the right direction or turn a certain way in a fast paced sequence that if you miss it, Lara dies a gruesome death. Seriously... some of the death animations are disturbing. I've seen her face bashed in on a rock, her body impaled by a giant metal spike, face eaten by a monster... you get the point. As far as the story goes, you're basically playing through an interactive movie. There are lots of very good cutscenes, but eventually you'll want to start skipping them and getting on with the game. The story isn't terribly deep, you basically are trying to prevent an apocalypse that you [very mild spoiler warning] may or may not have triggered... and you're up against the Trinity bad guys just like the other games who have other intentions. As the story progresses, you'll notice a tonal shift from Lara being a semi-naive adventurer to downright badass killer. Like seriously, the transition is almost jarring. There was a point about 7 hours into the game for me where Lara has a sequence with some intense music [another very mild spoiler] where she rises out of the water and it shows bad guys cowering in fear at her badassness and she lights them up, and you start hearing her cuss at them over the radio. It's pretty insane. If you're a fan of the genre, you will not be disappointed, and even if the story isn't your cup of tea, the gameplay is fun and you get to sneak around and witness all the new ways Lara can wipe out the enemy, from poisoning them to tying them up to tree branches. I would recommend this game to that group of people. If you're completely new to the series, I'd start with the first one or "Rise" to get your feet wet.Happy gaming!UPDATE: I finished the main storyline of the game in 10.5 hours. The total completion percentage was 60%, so there are lots of things like challenge tombs and side quests to go back and complete.

This game is amazing. The visuals on Xbox one x are absolutely nuts. I have taken more screen shots playing this game than anything I’ve played in recent memory. I’m playing on a 1080p tv and let’s just say I don’t miss dumping tons of money into a gaming PC at all. The visuals really are phenomenal. I can’t wait to replay it one day in 4K with HDR.

For me being a huge fan of the rebooted trilogy as well as all the older tomb raider games this is the best of the reboots in my opinion. A lot of the negative criticism I’ve read is absolutely asinine. Things like “the story is just her going after an artifact again!” ... it’s a f’ing Tomb Raider game.. are we going to complain street fighter is just more fighting next? Every aspect of the game play has been further refined and tweaked which is why I say this is the best of the bunch. I really enjoyed all the under water game play added. It gives everything that extra immersion exploring the environments. Some of my favorite memories of the original 1 and 2 were swimming through dark areas worrying about what’s coming next. Nice to have that back this go around.

I don’t want to write much more because I’m on mobile but this is an easy 10/10 for me. There’s nothing about it I would change. Ignore the random negative comments some people literally cannot be pleased. Either the games had too much action now the complaints are there isn’t enough, etc it’s just nonsense. I would say the fights are dialed back from Rise but honestly I’m ok with that.

Support the developer and buy this fantastic end to Lara’s rebooted trilogy. I really hope we get something more in the future. I will miss these games.

I have played every Tomb Raider game... I was a fan of the reboot and the sequel was amazing.... sooo I have to say this game is ok... but does not surpass the previous ones... actually I feel kinda let down! I was not a fan the weird outfits they make Lara wear.... I liked the isolation of previous games... how you were left to your own devices ... how your clothes rip apart and u get all beat up! All that is missing here... and that was the one aspect of the previous games that I LOVED.

All that being said the game is good! Just not as good as the previous two! Also I play this on an XB1X .... and even after switching the setting to frame rates prefered.... there are DRASTIC frame drops every Lara walks into a town.... I was little let down about that

Lara it is great to see you again.

This game is brilliant. The 4k is incredible and breathtaking. The HDR really makes the clouors and the environments really stand out and pop. The voice acting and facial animation is amazing. I just play in awh when I am playing. I am so glad this series is still going so strong after all of these years.
If you do have an xbox one x this is for sure a must have. I love how they did not change up too much with the controls. So you can just dive in and play. This will be a huge plus for newcomers to the series as well.

So please do yourself a favour and pick up the latest and one of the best entries to the game. It has incredible replay value as well.

I can not put the controller down. Alright time for this to be over and get back to playing.
