As Christians, we know we are called to love our neighbor. We may even grasp that "neighbor" encompasses more than just the people living next door or down the street. But what we too often don't know is how to begin. How do we love our neighbor? Where do we start? What does this look like in our increasingly isolated world?

Following practices outlined in the first chapter of 2 Peter, Alexandra Kuykendall lays out the framework for where to begin. From practicing humility to listening with understanding to being generous in our relationships,
Loving My Actual Neighbor offers practical, start-now steps readers can take to love their neighbors. With her approachable, friendly tone and down-to-earth advice, Kuykendall has carved out for herself a place in the hearts of readers, who will be thrilled to extend her commonsense approach into this sphere of their lives.

This book is exactly what the world needs right now. My gosh if everyone read it and applied a few of the principles, I believe we would see many of our worldly problems dissolve. Unlike her other books, Loving My Actual Neighbor requires you to dig a little deeper. As I reflect on my own relationship habits, I’m able to see where I fall short, the stereotypes I unfairly place on people and how I can reverse my thinking to better love the people around me. It’s a book I’ll need to read again, because there is just so much to take in! Highly recommend! And when you finish it, pass it on to a neighbor ❤️

I loved reading loving my actual neighbor. This book requires you to reflect on some patterns of behavior you may have (I may have 😬) that aren’t beneficial to those around you. I have to admit, I didn’t have butterflies the whole time. This book is real, raw and beautiful. The self reflection that came from reading this book was something I will always treasure. I recommend this book for everyone who wants to be relatable, and who wants to expand their perspective to accepting others the way they are and loving them in ways we are called to. Stop giving excuses to separate ourselves and start living in the time and space we were created. It was absolutely beautiful!

Oh I had such great high hopes for this book. I loved her Christmas book and was so excited to be on her advanced read team!

This just kinda fell flat for me. It's not written in the same style as her Christmas book, which I think is a lot of the problem. She had a lot of great stories, but they were so detailed, almost too detailed to hold my interest for long. Also the chapters were so long and had a lot of information in them.

The good is that I found a lot of her ideas to be really great and helpful in trying to create a relationship with my neighbors. I also loved the last part of the book with all the lists and suggestions for different aspects of your life.

So I definitely think people should read this, but know it will probably be slow and take time.

Within a couple of days after reading this book, I became aware of all the opportunities I have in a single day to connect with the people who cross my path. When walking my dog through my neighborhood, or setting down my mat at an exercise class, or picking out avocados at the grocery store. Alex's message motivates me to go beyond the automatic first response to the second response that connects. Her book is filled with do-able suggestions to do what God tells us to do: Love others. When we do this in small ways, we can make a big difference in our neighborhoods and our world.

As Christians, we know we are called to love our neighbor. Love? Like my friend. We all know that we like and need friends. And that is what Alexandra Kuykendall lays out the framework for where to begin. From practicing practical steps readers can take to love their neighbors like a friend. With her simple, easy to understand steps - humility, learn, listen, standing, accepting, lightening up, giving freely - use common sense in becoming friends. Works in any neighborhood, whether here in the US or wherever you live in the world. This works with work colleagues, organization “friends”, etc.

I've loved Alexandra's voice as an author since I first stumbled upon Loving My Actual Life. I have kept it handy on Audible as a reminder when things seem overwhelming and too busy.

Loving My Actual Neighbor has been a pleasure to read for my own growth and perspective on community, but more importantly it will be an amazing resource for our local church and women's groups. Alexandra offers stories that are truly heartfelt and eye opening, helping her readers see themselves and their opportunities to love others with grace.

If you're looking for an excellent book about loving your neighbors and need some practical ways to put that love in action, this is a perfect book for you. Kuykendall shares personal stories, but also plenty of tips. It is well-written, honest, and a valuable addition to the discussion on how exactly we're supposed to go about loving the people right next to us.

Loving my Actual Neighbor is not a book you just sit and read. It encourages moments of self reflection followed by direct calls to action. Alexandra’s style is inspiring and pushes us beyond what may be difficult and awkward. It encourages us to look up and embrace our neighbors with boldness and purpose. I believe we can each make a difference in the community in which we live, and this book gives us a practical place to start.

I didn’t know I needed the message in this book until I started reading it. I’ve been a christian my whole life, but being shy and introverted, I rarely went out of my way to express love to the neighbour I’m not friends with.
Alexandra writes in a practical way, it’s easy to understand and apply her ideas. She made me realize how much of Jesus’ teachings I was “ignoring” for my own comfort, and it inspired me to be more proactive in loving the people that are right beside me but I don’t usually see.
