AVONS SKIN SO SOFT TRULY LIVES UP TO ITS YEARS :-)
I have been a true fan of Avon’s skin so soft since I was a teenager I am now 58. I done found out when I got older that it was also an amazing bug deterrent. This is the only oil I use in my bath and they only oil I use for mosquitoes on me and anybody that comes over. When I got my package in the mail today somehow the locking lid opened and the plastic bag it was in had about a half inch of the oil in the bottom of it. I am OK with that as I have use the oil out of the plastic bag, but maybe tape the lid to ensure that in all the travel it somehow does not open.
This product is amazing! I bought it because of a BuzzFeed article and to be honest those recommendations don’t always turn out great. So I was skeptical, but hopeful and… WOW! My skin has been so dry and cracked the last few weeks and nothing is really helped. After the first time using this, it’s baby soft! Seriously, like a baby’s butt! And it lasts! All day, no matter how many times I wash my hands. They stay soft and moisturized. To be fair, the rest of me a soft too, but that’s not my main focus because the rest of me was not dry and cracked. I suppose you could just use baby oil, but that’s difficult for those hard to reach places ;) If you are wavering, I suggest you give it a try. You will be glad you did!
I became fascinated by the idea of using this as bug repellent after reading people’s recommendations on the Nextdoor app on a local post about mosquitoes. I don’t know if Avon products are supposed to be purchased through Avon/a rep directly for it to be legit but seeing this listing and the reviews I figured it was worth a shot. It’s basically baby oil and that’s what it smells like too. (I read online that people use baby oil as a bug repellent as well.) And while Avon also makes a Skin So Soft bug guard with a synthetic bug repellent added, I think there’s definitely something to this stuff. Maybe it’s the fragrance or maybe you’re just too slippery for bugs to land on, I don’t know! But I applied and have been sitting out on my patio in the prime mosquito early evening hours and haven’t gotten a single bite. Saw a mosquito hovering and then fly away. I’m usually eaten up within minutes of going outside.
I would imagine this is a terrible idea to bring to the beach or spray on during the day as like I said it’s basically baby oil and you would fry and cause some pretty bad sun damage to your skin. Bad idea for dogs and definitely kids for the same reason! But sitting out of the sun this is definitely helping keeping the bugs off. Glad to take a break from Deet. And my skin is indeed So Soft now, if a bit slimy.
We live in an area heavily populated by mosquitos, and this keeps them from biting better than actual bug spray. I purchased several cans of OFF spray bug repellent for myself and my husband this summer, and bought this to use for my young kiddos because I figured it would be safer. My mom used this for me in the 90’s and I remember it working like a charm. After a few hours spent outside on the 4th of July, I had 32 mosquito bites on my legs. I sprayed myself with OFF 4 times throughout those hours because I kept feeling them bite me. My kids were unscathed. I believe my oldest walked away with only one bite on his back, which would’ve been under his shirt where I did not spray. A week later, my husband and I spent some time outside in the evening on our hammock. He used OFF, I used this. He had several bites while I had 1 or 2 new ones. I think that says it all. Yes, the scent hasn’t changed and it still smells like the 90’s, it also still has an oily feel to it. But it’s worth it!
I forgot as a child going camping in California we would use this to repel bugs I went to Louisiana last thanksgiving I was bitten all over do when I wanted to return I was worried about the last painful example do I looked for something to use ran across this read a review person with the similar story same state so I have it a try went for the fourth stayed a week not a single bite smell is good and skim softy i love it and so thankful for this product glad it’s still around!
I was kinda skeptical to try this to use against mosquitoes but oh my gosh I’m so glad I did! I’m the type of person that if I take a step outside for 1 second to do something as soon as I get back inside I’m covered in mosquito bites and nobody else around me ever has that problem so they didn’t believe me until I would show them. I’ve been looking for something to keep the mosquitos off of me and I’ve found it! It arrived Saturday and I’ve been using it after every shower and since then I haven’t had any new bites! Even a walk to my car would get me at least 5 new bites but now 0, seriously! I’m sold! Now I just hope it doesn’t help them build up a tolerance for it then I would be in trouble. But until then I love it! It’s a little greasy but it’s well worth it if mosquitoes love your blood!
