Testing Lysander Kindle Edition
FROM AWARD-WINNING GAY ROMANCE AUTHOR L.M. SOMERTON
A newly edited version
Feel the fear and do it anyway.
Extreme photographer Lysander Brock is accustomed to challenging places and situations but nothing can prepare him for the journey that his dominant lover, Kyle Dawson, takes him on.
A commission to photograph the cloud forests of the Colombian Andes becomes the cover for a dangerous mission to expose a terrorist group. Brock and Lysander must negotiate treacherous terrain, a hazardous climb and unexplored caves to achieve their goal.
When Lysander is captured and tortured, he has no expectations of rescue. He understands that his life comes second to the mission but Kyle has no intention of leaving his beautiful, submissive lover in the hands of a madman. Kyle can deal with the intense pressure of fighting lethal enemies but the guilt of pushing Lysander into a life he never asked for is much harder to accept.
Lysander and Kyle journey together into a life of adventure, dominance and submission, and an uncertain future.

About the author
LM lives in a small village in the English countryside, surrounded by rolling hills, cows and sheep. She started writing to fill time between jobs and is now firmly and unashamedly addicted.
She loves the English weather, especially the rain, and adores a thunderstorm. She loves good food, warm company and a crackling fire. She's fascinated by the psychology of relationships, especially between men, and her stories contain some subtle (and some not so subtle) leanings towards BDSM.
LM is winner of the National Leather Association’s Pauline Reage Award for best novel and finalist in the John Preston Short Story Award. She won the Golden Flogger Award for best BDSM novel in the LGBT category in 2016 and 2018. She has received multiple Honorable Mentions in the Rainbow Awards and won the Action and Adventure category of Divine Magazine’s Book Awards.

Testing Lysander was an excellent read. Definitely read Picturing Lysander first because it does set the reader up for this book.
Brock and Kyle are on a secret mission, one that involves both their special talents and a lot of luck. Unfortunately for Brock, luck runs out and his life goes south.
What I enjoyed about this book was the journey Kyle and Brock took together to explore their emotional and physical relationship, adding the BDSM bits. No longer the wishy-washy man I remembered from book one, Lysander Brock was self- assured and confident. He never had an issue with his photographical talent, but his submissiveness had not reached its full potential. A strong man, steadfast in his abilities yet submissive in the bedroom, Brock was a well-rounded character.
Kyle as well grew on me in Testing Lysander. I came to realize the pressures of his secretive work and the organization he worked for made him struggle to find a balance between the professional life he was a part of and the personal one he yearned with Brock. He truly cared about Brock’s well-being and life and the desire to keep him safe was his cross to bear.
Ms. Somerton delivered an action-packed story filled with well-researched back drops that placed me in the moment.
An HEA with room for more adventures, I look forward to Brock and Kyle’s next book.

A five handcuff review

“Testing Lysander” is quite an action-packed spy/romance. The initial set-up seems a little far-fetched, but then you could say that about most James Bond films too. Fortunately, once you get past the improbable recruitment of Brock, the story sweeps you along with it's mix of sex and adventure, and adventurous sex. There's a bit of a kinky D/s angle to the relationship that develops between the two protagonists, but it's more of a sub-plot than the main theme.
Brock is a pretty believable character. He seems to be the archetype adrenalin junkie, but still comes across as a real person. His acceptance, albeit haltingly, of a submissive role with Kyle may seem contradictory, but it all made perfect sense to me. Kyle, on the other hand, is more of a mystery, and that's no doubt intentional. A secret agent is hardly going to open up and tell a near stranger all about his past and his family.
The story ends in such a way that certainly leaves open the possibility of further adventures of the two men, and that's something I would look forward to. Kyle and Brock are definitely two very interesting characters. They have a dynamic similar to the lead couple of the Power Exchange series, but they're definitely very different people.
This was a story that including spying and wilderness, BDSM and violence. It was described so well, I could picture where they were, what Brock was seeing through the lens, and how he was feeling the entire time.
Kyle was someone who took a while to “know”. I understood what he wanted and why, but having not read the previous story, his motivations seemed a little lost. Also, his relationship with his job and what he wanted his relationship to be with Brock seemed to be at odds. So much so, that when Brock needed him most, Kyle was absent.
While there were some BDSM aspects, I do not believe this was a good representation of BDSM, as the Dom shirked his duties when the going got tough. He wanted to go to him, but duty called instead.
This story still seemed slightly incomplete to me. I felt that there was something missing, but I can’t really put my finger on what. I do hope we get to see more adventures from these two though.

This book started out really rocky for me and even after finishing the book... I have no idea how the two men met. Sure, it's hinted at, but there was still a lot left open and unanswered for me about how it came to be.
The adventure part of the book was incredibly good. I couldn't read fast enough to find out what happened and how/if they made it through their mission without getting hurt and whether they accomplished their task.
However, after the mission, the pace of the book almost stopped and I felt myself starting to skim parts because it just didn't interest me or was repetitive. Then at the end things started to get interesting again. I do wish there had been more discussion about things after all that had happened (and the phone call), but then again I suppose if there is a second book we'd get to know more of what the pair have in store for them.
All in all, I enjoyed the book, there was a little bit of bondage, but not enough for me to really classify it as BDSM as a few tie down scenes aren't all that unusual or a spanking here and there.
The writing was very clean though and caught and held my attention quite raptly for about 3/4 of the book so I would say it was a good read. However, there were a few parts (since it was in third person) that I had a hard time figuring out which of the men was thinking/doing and that would throw me off since sometimes we'd be on Kyle's side and sometimes Brock's side.
