Free Fall: (Brody & Lola: Easton Family Saga) (Fallen Duet Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 336 ratings

We were never meant to meet; our paths shouldn’t have crossed.
And yet they did.

As an undercover DEA agent, I always thought things through. I didn’t take chances, because I knew one misstep could have disastrous consequences.

Until I met her.
The little sister of my next target.

Lola was a feisty young woman trying to claw her way out of a bad neighborhood.
She was forbidden in every sense of the word, and not just because of the sixteen year age gap.

We were taught to expect the unexpected, but nothing could have prepared me for what was about to happen.

I fell hard.
I fell fast.
I freefalled heart first.

But there was a secret I was keeping, and if revealed, it’d destroy the lives of those I’d vowed to protect.

One wrong move and everything could erupt in our faces.
All that remained was one question...
Was she worth it?

Free Fall is book one in the Fallen Duet. A two-part, angst-fuelled, gripping tale of forbidden love, complete with a jaw-dropping twist you’ll never see coming.

Oh my actual goodness where do I start with this review?
This book left me stunned...shocked.. desperate for book 2 asap and absolutely full of all the feels you can ever imagine!
The story just grabs you and holds on tight until you devour every single word and it leaves you right there on that cliff waiting to fall over to continue the story!
Its intense..drama filled.. and angsty as hell and it's all I could ever want in a book.. throw in the hot swoon worthy Brody and boom your just heart explodes.
You want to hug Lola tight right from the start to the very end in this book.. shes young hardworking and just wants a better life away from step brother Hut and his illegal ways... but unfortunately nothing is easy for her and just when she thinks things are now going her way it all just blows up instead.
Abigail you have absolutely smashed it with this beauty and I cant wait for book 2... would 1 million percent recommend to everyone!

I knew this was book 1 of 2. I anticipated the cliffhanger ending. In other words: I should have been prepared for this. Instead, I feel like Wile E. Coyote when he looks down and realises that he has just run off the cliff and there is nothing beneath him but air. In time, I may update this review. For now, I am one clicking Downfall. I need to know what happens to Brody and Lola like I need my next breath.

Free Fall (Fallen Duet #1) is the first book I've read by Abigail Davies and I loved it! Brody and Lola are great characters, and that together with the well written, exciting storyline I was hooked from the start. I alternated between reading and listening to the audiobook and I must give credit to the narrators who did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. I can’t wait to start listening the concluding part. I highly recommend it!

Well, Free Fall by Abigail Davies was a real surprise, in a very good way. I want to start off my review slightly differently by saying that, for me, although the cover is a pretty good representation of the main characters, it’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing when it comes to giving the reader any clue about the raw and gritty story inside. I love a dark romantic suspense and whilst this is not the darkest book I’ve read, it certainly has dark and violent elements to it. It is a first read for me by this author, and I enjoyed it very much.

There’s plenty of angst here, in the true sense of the word. Although we don’t get a great deal of insight into Lola’s past history, my heart went out to her for the situation she now finds herself in. She’s a real survivor and her strength and resilience blew me away. There are some unpredictable, volatile characters in this book and my trepidation and sense of foreboding increased with every turn of the page. Her saving grace comes in the form of Brody, who unbeknownst to her, is an undercover DEA agent and a real enigma. Their attraction is perilous and forbidden in more ways than one and by acknowledging their feelings and succumbing to that attraction, they’re playing a dangerous game. I can’t wait to see where this all ends.

There are several twists and turns along the way, which kept me guessing, and although I did predict one bombshell a while before it was dropped, this did not affect my enjoyment of the story. If you like a dark, unconventional, age gap, romance, I would highly recommend this book. If you don’t like a cliffy, I would still urge you to take a chance on this story, you may just wish to wait a couple of weeks until book 2 of the duet is published. I’ll be waiting for it when it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars ALL THE ANGST!

I don't get a ton of time to read, so when I do, I want to make sure that the book wrecks me in the best possible way. I want to think about it days and weeks later. It needs to be one of those books that I can't help but bug the living snot out of everyone I know until they read it so I can have someone to commiserate with. That was this book. I devoured it. Each page had me anxious for the next. I couldn't read fast enough. I was so engrossed in the story that I curled into a ball on my couch on the verge of rocking.

Davies gives us two unlikely hearts to fall in love, and God when they do, you just know it's going to be messy, and there are times you wonder if they'll both make it out alive. But nothing worth having comes easy, and these two have to fight to be together. Even through their ups and downs, I never stopped rooting for them, despite what the reader learns about the Hero. Only Davies could take that situation and make it okay (I don't want to give anything away muahahhaha--READ THE BOOK).

Be prepared for an adrenaline-filled, angst-laced, jaw-dropping, heart-throbbing romance unlike any other you've read. The storyline is fresh. The characters are real. And overall, it's just superbly done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Undercover hotness

I’ve been wanting to read a book where the hero is an undercover cop and falls in love with someone who obviously doesn’t know who he is. So when I heard about this book I was all in. Plus there’s an age gap and I am a huge sucker for an age gap.
Lola breaks me heart, she’s an easy heroine to like. Plus she doesn’t suffer from too stupid to live syndrome which lets face it is a plus. That’s not to say that she doesn’t find herself in terrible situations though. She lives with her stepbrother who is a drug dealer, violent, and more than a little crazy, add in possessive when it comes to her and you have a recipe for disaster. Lola doesn’t want to be apart of that life, but she also doesn’t exactly have anywhere to go. I like seeing her work so hard to get out, going to college, double shifts, tutoring, anything she can do to save money so she can leave her controlling and abusive step brother in her past.
And then of course there is Brody. He’s likable. He’s the good guy. He’s undercover trying to take down Emerson, the abusive drug dealing lunatic. I mean what’s not to root for. Plus he’s super protective of Lola, even though he tries to fight his attraction to her. By the time the book end and the author drops the bomb, I was invested enough in these two that I still want a happy ending to be possible. I really can’t wait to read the conclusion.

Another amazing book. And right when things were getting good, bam, here's a cliffhanger leaving you with you're mouth open. I definitely was not expecting that. Although I had a feeling he was hiding something but not that. Can't wait to read the next book to see how this ends.

From start to finish thus story gripped my heart. There were moments where I knew exactly where the story was going and then there were other parts that completely took me by surprise.
