I recently purchased a Real Tuner Clip-on Tuner from Groovy Center. I was looking for a sub-$20 tuner on Amazon and found lots of tuners in that price range. Frankly, the number of tuners available makes it difficult to make a good choice. I read reviews on Amazon and other sites and was able to eliminate several other tuners. I finally based my decision on reviews and posted answers to questions and some coin tossing and bought the Real Tuner Clip-on.

Groovy delivered the tuner without issue. The package survived shipment and the tuner was not damaged in any way. There were no delays or payment issues.

I am learning the Banjo and needed a compatible tuner for that instrument. I chose the tuner with the black ciip. The tuner appears to be smaller than I expected which is good as I was concerned its size might be distracting. The package contained a functioning battery and some instructions in very fine print. The instructions were clear and I was using my tuner within a couple of minutes of receiving it. I fumbled a bit when I was setting up the tuner and tried out both the microphone and vibration tuning modes. Both worked well. I found that setting the tuner to anything other than chormatic is instrument specific. Selecting a Uke or Guitar setting is not going to produce any meaningfule results when applied to Banjos. The tuner adjusts well to my banjo and I am able to easily arrange the display and clip to my liking.

The tuner seems quite consistent and produces reliable guidance for my purposes. The display is crisp and legible. As long as one is not in direct sun, the display is readable. The LED display is, of course, most readable in darker settings. The display is bright enough to be readable on my shaded porch but I find my eyes straining a bit to read the analog tune whenever the sun is in certain positions.

Operating the tuner is quite simple. Clip the tuner on the head of the instrument. Use the rocker switch to turn on the tuner and start tuning. The tuner starts in Chromatic mode and is quite sensitive. The results are repeatable and the analog display makes short work of setting my banjo strings. I do have a Uke and guitar and am looking forward to trying the tuner on those instruments. I'm tempted to get out my old trumpet to test the tuner on it but think I am stretching my neighbors' patience quite enough with the banjo.

I purchased the tuner in January to use on my ukulele. I quickly decided it was the best of tuner of the several I had used earlier. It has all the feature that I will ever need. I especially like its size and brightness. It is far more usable than the smaller units that required very good light to be legible. My eyesight might be a factor, but I have zero issues with the Real Tuner. After five months of use, the tuner stopped working. I assumed it needed a new battery and tried several. It would not work. I contacted customer service asking if there were any trouble shooting steps. Lisa explained that if new batteries that were properly installed did not work, there was nothing more I could do. She then said that the tuner was under warranty and that a new unit would be sent. It arrived promptly and works perfectly. The warranty period is an amazing three years, unheard of for most electronic devices. Surely glad i made this purchase.

Great tuner. First I bought a Fender FT-004, which gets great reviews. I hated it: slow, slow, slow. I kept overshooting the tuning, up and down. I threw it away and got this instead. Fast, bright, small pitch increments work very well. Sensitive enough even for intonation adjustments (although not nearly as good as an expensive tuner or a strobe). It is a bit bigger than many headstock tuners, including the Fender, but still fits in the case when attached. I've already bought a second one for my son.

UPDATE #1:
Purchased a second tuner, and this one was off by a full half step. Honestly, I've never seen a tuner this "out of tune" . So, five stars for the first one and one star for the second, averages to three stars.

UPDATE #2
Back up to 5 stars. Vendor noticed my first update and sent me an apologetic email, a new tuner, and a gift. Happy to report that the new tuner is dead on. So 2 out of 3 were perfect. Maybe the 2nd was just a lemon. I suggest you verify yours against a friend's tuner, a piano, etc. Make sure it's right. If you have a problem, contact the vendor. They are very responsive. I am a very happy customer and heartily recommend this tuner.

I purchased this for my 5 string bass. Works ok for G, D, A and E, but terrible on the “B” string. If you’re serious about your tuning, save your money and buy the Peterson HD clip-on strobe tuner, it’s far more expensive but works far better than any other brand of clip-on out there.
