Best option for booting off an SSD
==============================Caveats & Warnings:------------------------------This expansion is ONLY compatible with the "V2" version of the Argon One case. You have the correct case version, if the case has cutouts for 2 full sized HDMI ports.------------------------------The "Buy With" recommendations on the Amazon product page, ***MIGHT*** suggest a SATA3 SSD. This product is ONLY COMPATIBLE with SATA II SSD drives; with a form factor of 2280, 2260, 2242, or 2230.------------------------------The SSD socket ONLY ACCEPTS SSD that are "B" or "B+M" keyed. The socket WILL NOT accept an SSD that is only "M" keyed.------------------------------Remember, by itself, a Raspberry Pi 4B uses about 5 watts. And the M.2 SSD requires up to another 5 watts. WATTAGE IS ADDITIVE -- Use a good 15 to 20 watt power adaptor.------------------------------A magnetized screwdriver, and a magnetic tray or dish, is strongly recommended.==============================The "default" for the standoff and mount point of the SSD is at the 2280 position (see pictures). If you are using a smaller form factor, reposition the standoff NOW, and DO NOT LOSE THE MOUNTING SCREW.You know that you've properly seated the SSD into the socket, when you can make it "stand up" in the socket; before locking down the SDD with the mounting screw (see pictures).Once you attach the expansion to the existing Argon One case; you will LOSE EXTERNAL ACCESS to the micro SD card slot. If you plan to boot directly off the SSD, remove the SD card NOW. Pi 4B whose EEPROM contain bootloaders dated 2021 or later, will boot off the SSD, if the SD card slot is empty. If you want to change the boot order, or need to update your EEPROM, do it before proceeding. You can image your SSD, by connecting it directly to your PC, with a USB-A to USB-A cable. The interface will show up as a USB device named "FORTY," and the Pi Imager software will recognize the SSD as a USB SCSI drive; of the size that you mounted in the SSD socket. Like the SD card; the Pi Imager will divide the SSD into 2 partitions of VFAT and EXT4.

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY there's an integrated SSD boot solution for Raspberry Pi!
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2021
I jumped at the chance to snag up the ArgonONE case when I saw how it moved all the ports to one side, and set the stage to turn my Raspberry Pi 4B+ into an awesome portable entertainment and gaming center.

Raspberry Pi 4 brought an upgrade that allowed it to boot from a USB device instead of just the microsd card, meaning now the device can have more longevity and snappy boot/load times.
Argon40 brought the M.2 enhancement to their case, meaning I no longer have to carry around an extra external drive either!

The way this thing works is simple: they give you a board that is mounted in a new ArgonONE case bottom, and which basically takes any m.2 SATA SSD and makes it accessible as a USB device.
Once everything's mounted up, you just plug in the USB patch dongle between the m.2 tray and the nearest RPi USB port in the back.
They offer this capability as an add-on to existing ArgonONE cases, or as part of a bundle when purchasing a new one.
Protip: Even if you already bought the original main case, you might still want to buy the bundle anyway, because the updated case now provides an internal jumper for how the Pi behaves on power loss, as well as FULL-SIZE HDMI ports on the back!

This arrangement carries the benefit of allowing you to access the contents of that drive without opening the chassis (by swapping the dongle for a USB A-A cable to your PC instead).
It does also have a potential downside, in that unlike with the standalone ArgonONE case bottom, you cannot access the microSD card slot on the RPi while the drive tray is mounted. However, this is only a negative point if you insist on booting your Pi with a microSD card, but you're not THAT crazy, are you? :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Wish the USB adapter had a toggle switch.
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2021
Nice addition to my Argon v2 case.

I wish this was aluminum like the top is.

I setup my boot priority to USB 1st and SD card 2nd. When I want to switch the the SD card I pull out the USB A to A adapter from the M.2 drive. I use a USB 3 A to A cable to transfer the images and files from my PC.

I wish the USB adapter for the M.2 had a toggle to make the boot switch easier.

I setup the fan profiles as suggested in the manual and after the start up whir I don't hear it.

FyI: the 512gb m.2 pictured was slightly smaller than the 512gb image I was trying to use. Pishrink worked wonderfully to fix my problem.
