Feels great and holds up to saltwater!

Feels great and holds up to saltwater!
First off, let me say that I have never heard of "Booms Fishing" before. I grew up old school fishing with equipment passed down from generation to generation. up until a few years ago, I was still fishing with a handline, which I still feel is the best way to go, but we'll leave that for another review. So I got these pliers and gripper and right away I felt as if I got something that would last if used properly. The pliers has a nice weight to it, and the entire thing is made of stainless steel with the handles wrapped in a non-slip material (rubber or silicone). It has a little latch that locks the pliers in the closed position, so it won't get caught up on anything if thrown into your bag.The spring on the pliers (also made of stainless steel) used to keep it open is pretty stiff, so I don't see it getting loose any time soon. So far i've used it to open split rings to replace lost/damaged hooks on my vertical jigs, and it has two slots on top to hook your hooks while tying your knots. It cuts thru braid like a hot knife thru butter. No need to force the blades together to achieve this, which is something I instinctively do with any "scissor" type tool.Overall, the pliers is a very nice addition to my ever-growing fishing tackle. The grippers is also a nice addition. I am accustomed to grabbing fish by hand or with a cloth in those rare occasions I get something poisonous or dangerous to hold. I am getting used to these pliers, and I like that it "locks" down on the fish. It's similar to the way a vise grip locks onto something. when locked, it will only open if you pull the handles apart. The entire gripper is made of plastic held together with what looks like stainless steel pegs. Again, it feels like quality and not something that can break too easily. Having said that, these pliers are not for any and all fish. You got to use a little common sense and know if a fish might be too big for the pliers. So far the biggest i've held with it is 12lbs. Bigger fish have been gaffed.Since most saltwater fish are toothy, having this is your arsenal is a plus! For the price, you can't go wrong.I think it's also worth mentioning that I not only fish exclusively in salt water, but I also live about 50 yards away from the sea. This salt air corrodes EVERYTHING, and even though I rinse all my equipment after use, they still rust eventually. so far, I have not seen a spec of rust on anything. I've only had it for a month so far, but if it wasn't real stainless steel, I would know by now for sure.Worth the price? Yes. Would I buy again? Yes

This is marketed as salt water, however, I probably wouldn't use this set for that as salt water fish tend to be larger. This is more of a lightweight freshwater set. The grippers are made of plastic and do not feel very solid. I would be concerned about trying to grab a fish with any significant weight. The pliers are thin but solid.

Overall at this price point this is a good set for the tackle box. My only comment is towards the size of the fish that could be grab by the gripper. Also the gripper is not spring loaded so when it's open it flaps around freely which could be a bit of a challenge for single hand use which is typically what would happen while trying to grab a fish.

Once you sit down in you kayak you have to handle landing fish differently. I've landed fresh and saltwater species on kayak and paddleboards and always used my Boga grips. As my kids started to come as well I wanted something for them to use. I found these and they seem to check every box. Sturdy, light easy to use with big or smaller hands. The pliers and retractable leash are just bonuses. The value of this package is the grips. Highly recommend.

So i tried the clamps on my lip because I wanted to make sure it would not hurt the fish. I am unclear as i couldn't lock the clamp into place on my lip and if i did then it would really hurt as the grip is jagged. The pliers work great and have a cutter and are spring open and close and have a strap to hang and the fish lip grippers do not have a spring open and close they have to be opened and then when you close them they clamp very tightly in place. I am not sure what the third carrying strap was for as I thought it was a mini tape measure but it is just a retractable lead.

Very helpful for gripping slippery fish and removing deep set hooks. This set came with a couple of bonuses too. This kit would make a nice gift for any fisherman on your list. But I'm keeping it for myself because I always need extra help removing fish from my line and I'm very pleased to have this. The pliers are springy and have non slip grip handles. The fish gripper is made of sturdy plastic so it won't rip through them during use. It's a great set.

These pliers are sturdy and sharp enough to cut through steel leads without chipping!!! The lanyards are nice so that you can attach it to yourself instead of leaving your nice, new, extra sharp pliers on the pier.

The fish grabber, although plastic, is always nice to have and works well to remove fish from hooks.

Great set!

The pliers are a must and comes in handy for unhooking fish, cutting mono, or opening split rings. The lanyard clip makes it easy to stow and does not get in the way. I have yet to use the split ring opener feature, but it looks like it will save my fingernails in the future. My only concern is the gripper. The "tooth shaped jaws" may securely hold the fish, but it might hurt the fish if you are a catch-and-release kind of person. I would recommend this grabber if you plan to keep the fish. Otherwise, there are other lip grippers that are more fish friendly.
