Customers are mixed about the performance of the machine lubricant. Some mention that it works well, eliminates problem within minutes, and is a great product. Others say that it didn't work at all, only worked for 20 minutes, or has minor issues with running above normal.

Customers are mixed about the coolant leakage. Some mention that it works amazingly, with no exhaust gases leaking into the cooling system. However, others say that it causes the head gasket combustion leak and coolant wetting the spark plugs. The engine overheats until it is allowed to cool and the air pocket rises.

Customers have mixed opinions about the smoke produced by the machine lubricant. Some customers report no coolant loss, while others say their car blows out a thick white smoke for a few minutes every morning.

Customers are dissatisfied with the leakage of the machine lubricant. They mention that the head gasket went bad and the water from radiator leaked into the engine block. They also say that the coolant poured out the overflow bottle and clogged their radiator.

Since I was out of an engine anyways, I decided to give one of those good old head gasket miracle fix products a shot. I found a video on youtube of a mechanic who recommended this product, but with a different, prolonged approach; instead of only leaving the product for a half hour or so, he recommended leaving it for many days and running in for hundreds of miles until the leak was sealed. I decided to give that a try.
I followed the instructions: coolant flush, then pour in the water with the product, let it run for a bit. But instead of doing another flush, I left the water with the product overnight with the coolant cap off, then ran the car for 20-30 mins everyday for a week.
The day after, the white smoke (vapor) was almost the same. On the 2nd day, there was much less smoke. 3rd day, even less. By the 6 or 7th day and about 100 miles of driving, the smoke had disappeared.
I did the flush to eliminate the product and replaced it with coolant. Also changed the oil. It has been 6 weeks, and the Jag is running PERFECTLY. No coolant loss whatsoever, no smoke, smooth running; the product worked amazingly well so far.
I will update this with any changes in the next few months.
Here were my symptoms:
1. Overheating
When the outside temperature was 90 degrees, driving at highway speeds (60-70 mpg) with occasional acceleration due to passing, lane changes or slight grades would result in the temperature gauge going from the normal 12 o'clock position to 1, 2, or even 3 o'clock.
Warning messages would progress from 'Engine coolant hot' to 'AC turned off' to 'Idle engine Now' to 'Change oil'
Slowing to 45-50 mph (side roads) would allow the engine to cool enough for the temperature gauge to drop. Exiting the highway and idling the engine or shutting it off for 5 to 10 minutes was sufficient to bring the temperature back to normal.
The next morning I would need to add coolant to the overflow tank, so the pressure in the cooling system was high enough to push past the pressure cap.
When the outside temperature was lower, the same things occurred, just at different speeds.
2. Rough running when starting
After the car had been sitting for more than 4 hours, it would run rough for 2 or 3 minutes. And, when accelerating from a stop at a traffic light, the engine would not run perfectly smooth. The effect was subtle and it felt like driving over mildly rough pavement.
My regular mechanic replaced the radiator, then the cooling fans, then the thermostat and pressure cap. Each of these helped the engine run cooler longer, but did not cure the problem. He then performed a test and found evidence of combustion products in the coolant. He recommended a new engine for $7000 + installation. He will no longer do head gasket replacements because he has been burned when they do not last.
As a last resort, I purchased the product and had my regular mechanic apply the product using the recommended procedure.
SYMPTOMS I did not have:
There was no smoke or steam visible in the exhaust. There was no oil visible in the coolant. There was no coolant visible in the oil.
RESULTS:
Problem 1 (overheating) was not fixed.
Problem 2 was cured.
I have since had the head gaskets replaced and head bolt inserts installed ($2000 + motor mounts + tensioner + serpentine belt). Mechanic #2 who performed this job specializes in Northstar head gasket replacement. You can find a similar mechanic by searching for 'Specializing in Northstar Head Gasket Repairs' plus your local area. He said my head gasket problem was at the very beginning stages.
He said problem #1 occurs at combustion when the high pressure of the cylinder (usually #1) blows past the head gasket and creates an air pocket in the cooling system. The engine will overheat until it is allowed to cool and the air pocket rises to the expansion tank. He said problem #2 is caused by coolant wetting the spark plugs. This occurs during the intake cycle or at rest when coolant leaks past the head gasket into the cylinder. In severe cases so much coolant gets into the cylinder that the starter motor cannot turn.
Am I happy with the product? Yes, I felt it was worth spending a few bucks to confirm the diagnosis of a blown head gasket. And it provided a smoother running engine while I searched for a mechanic who would guarantee his work for a year.
Is this product the answer to every problem? No, not if you have a Northstar that starts overheating when under load.
Works well, have used on several different vehicles.
But doesn't work so well on turbo charged engine, too much pressure in cylinders.
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!!! Otherwise it won't work. Lots of steps and takes some time, but done correctly I've had great results.
