Good for Families with Young Children

This set of figures is just wonderful. My children love being able to pick up and touch the well known characters. My daughter loves holding the baby Jesus in her hand and placing him back in the manger, where he fits perfectly. My son thinks the wise men are cool. They are my favorites, too. Their robes and gifts are just beautiful. They each have distinct features, and seem almost real. Joseph is holding a lantern as if he is casting light over the baby. All the characters are leaning forward slightly to look at the baby. One of the Kings is kneeling to place his gift down. They all fit so well together in that scene. Even the shepherd boy is leaning a tad to the right so if you place him behind the adult shepherd, the boy seems to be peering over (or around) the other's shoulder. They are all sturdy on their feet (except the shepherd boy who has a slight tendency to topple). In my family, it is a big asset that my nativity is not breakable. Schleich does have a problem making their female characters attractive, but I think Mary is one of their more successful attempts. She is the only character which I am a little let down about, but then, making a replica of the Mother of God is a tall order! I would highly recommend this set. Now, if only they will make a stable to go with it...

Nice idea and Schleich usually has great stuff, but the Nativity is very poorly painted and rather ugly. Also, some of the parts are too small for little ones which defeats the purpose of having a child friendly nativity. I returned the one I purchased.

Schleich Nativity

My daughter loves this set and it works well with all of her exisitng Schleich animals (although as previously mentioned the characters run on the small side). We add an additional piece daily and she looks forward to re-arranging the set since she is allowed to play with it with little fear of breaking. The kings in particular have the usual high level of Schleich detailing and paint application. There is a Schleich Castle Stable that works well with this set as a backdrop.

My only complaint is that the Shepherd and boy don't look at all like they are from the appropriate time period. The Shepherd looks like he's carrying a sombrero and doesn't have the traditional shepherds staff (which would have been a nice touch). The boy also looks like he is wearing a more contemporary jacket.

This wonderful Nativity set is perfect for teaching young children about the Birth of Jesus Christ. The figures fit perfect in little hands. The detail and quality goes far beyond the modest price of the product. My wife and I purchased this for our two year old son as both a teach tool and a distraction from our expensive (and fragile) nativity. Couldn't be happier with it.
