For example, the cats love to press their feet on the warm glass and when I place my cats in the seats before I leave, they will still be lounging there happily when I return hours later. But I don't' think they have really become inclined to jumping up there on their own. Not sure. And every cat is different. And the location you place the seat will have something to do with whether the cat adopts it.
I was also very leery of the seats after ordering 2 seats, excitedly cleaning the windows (which had not been cleaned in a LONG time), and then finding that in only 3 days suctions on both seats popped off 5 times, twice while cats were laying on them. Only 1 bottom suction was popping off on each. The top were fine, so the cats had a chance to react, but it was still really upsetting for me as you can imagine.
I no longer trusted the seat, and started the return process with Amazon even while researching how to enhance the suction. At the last minute I had a change of heart because I liked the sunny seat concept so much and most people don't have the problem I was having, so I decided to try new windows and clean them really really well.
Happily, after my intense prep session, the seats have stayed on with no problem. I can press down on them really hard with no issue. The cats have been sleeping and jumping on them from the top of the bookcase (landing on them like a trampoline) with no problem. Below is the cleaning tips that worked for me along with the other suggestions I researched.
I had cleaned the window well with window cleaner and a clean towel and thought that was sufficient, but the suctions were still popping off. When I tried a new set of windows, I cleaned those with cleaner and lots of paper towels instead. I kept using paper towels until there was 0 trace of dirt showing on a clean paper towel. Then I wiped down the suction cups (and window portion where the suctions would stick) with rubbing alcohol for a perfect squeaky clean. After that the suctions have never come off!
I also had pushed the suctions super tight onto the window, until they stopped making a clicking noise when I pushed hard. (I assume the first few clicks was all the air being pushed out) and they truly suctioned into place now. (The first windows I had the seats on were behind a large TV and high up, both of which prevented me from pushing firmly at a solid right angle, and that may have been part of the problem too.) So if you have a ridiculously clean surface and use your body weight to push into them until they can't flatten any further, they should stick fine after that.
The other tips I read were to soak the cups for 5 minutes in warm water to get them more pliable, and wet the suction before sticking them (mine were a little wet when I stuck them because of the rubbing alcohol. One kept sliding around and I had to work with it more). Another person applied a thin bead of denture adhesive around the bottom of suction in a complete circle. Another person applied hair gel to the suction. Someone else used packing tape (over an imperfect surface) to create the smoothest cleanest surface possible. (We shouldn't need to do that since glass is smooth, and I think it would be hard to match the suction to the tape perfectly because the suction circle would have to fit perfectly inside the perimeter of the tape - the suction must be air tight and cannot go over a tape seam. But I still wanted to add this to the list in case it helps anyone.)
Hope this helps. I'm feeling really good about the seats' safety now that I've seen it hold up so solidly, and for me that was #1 priority.
I also added small fleece blankets to the seats for less than $4 each!! That's a great deal and the cats love snuggling on them. They come in cream, brown or pink at Petco and Unleashed (a Petco affiliate). (Petco has stocked them for years, I don't think they're going anywhere.) If you fold them in half they fit the seat perfectly, or if you leave them open you can drape them down the sides of the seat and tuck into it, or let them scrunch up a little for more snuggle appeal.
So I cleaned my window thoroughly and tried to reinstall the suction cups and it looks so far so good. My cats were extremely disappointed the entire time it was down and are happy to see it back up. My cats are 13lbs and 9lbs and use this regularly.
One tip I have for installation (I think I read this from another review) is to make sure your window is super clean and dry, and to add a very small amount of Vaseline to the center of the suction cup. Don't do too much or obviously it will just slip down the window. But if you do a tiny amount it helps the suction cups stay up forever.
The only negative for me is that the velcro cover that comes with it is actually a bit too small for the frame so if I velcro it underneath the cover is tight as a drum with no give, so the moment my cats sit in the bed the velcro comes apart. The cover doesn't come off or anything so it's not a huge deal to me, but thought I'd mention it.
I have had these for months now, three of them actually. Long story short, they stay on the window for only a few days until one day your cat jumps on it and the two suction cups on the base unstick from the window and send your cat down to whatever is below. Thankfully we have a few inch wide window sill that he falls a few inches down to so he does not necessarily get injured, but surely gets scared. It is our fault for wanting these to work and not accepting the fact that they just don't work. I am writing this update because 5 minutes ago I saw this happen and I felt very bad for my cat, and mad at the company that produces these. Nobody should buy these because they do not work as intended and have the potential to injure your cat. The suction cups are horrible, such that to attain the desired seal, two thirds of the suction cup from the outer edge fold away from the window leaving only about a 1" circle to provide suction. These used to stick to the window for slightly longer when my cat was <4lb. But now he is 8lbs and it holds for a few days if we are lucky. And then I have to get the windex out, spritz the window, the suction cups, wait for it to dry, fold the suction cups back to their original position, back and forth a few times, and then attempt to put these things up. But if your cat tries to jump on them within the first few minutes/hours, expect them to come down because the seal hasn't "cured" and is still slippery.
This product is terrible and needs to be taken off the market until more reliable suction cups are included. I wish I could give negative stars after seeing my cat freak out after these things come down unexpectedly underneath him.
Buy the ones that screw into the wall because these do not hold. As a matter of fact, I am going to try either taping or hot gluing these to the window so they actually stay; imagine how great that will look.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
The first one I got is good, my kitten likes it, the construction seems good. I ordered two more and the product quality has DRASTICALLY been reduced. Metal has been replaced with plastic, the suction cups and frame are even poorer quality. All that and I paid the same price. Very disappointing. Amazon will be refunding my two purchases shortly.
Product does NOT reflect the images shown for this product. This cheap plastic version should have been on an entirely new product page and not the product page of the old/better version. This cheaper version is sold for 25% less on other retail outlets. Amazon customers are paying the same price as the better version, which is deceitful to say the least.

Remember, don't force your cats to go onto the seat if they're not ready. You can encourage them with treats.
I was worried that the shelf wouldn't fit on my window, but it works just as well on a flat window pane as it does on two sliding windows.
The suction cups are exactly two feet apart from left to right, and the height from top to bottom will vary depending on the angle at which you place the strings (between 19 in. and 20 in.)
The inner plastic frame looks a little flimsy, but once you set up the whole thing, it's very solid.
Before you install the suction cups, thread the plastic strings and white plastic tips through the holes in the beige tarp. Make sure you push the bottom suction cups in all the way into the white plastic tubes, but be careful not to crack the frame. The top suction cups are a bit tricky because they have three holes. Push the white pin into one of the small side holes and out through the other side hole. Don't push it through the big hole at the top.
The suction cups stick very well as long as you clean the window and the cups first and don't completely dry off the water.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this shelf to anyone who wants to give their cat a nice spot to rest. It's a great value for your money.
