Ok so I bought this the FIRST TIME for a recipe but my partner and I opened them up to try them (for the recipe) and we accidentally ate ALL of them..... Therefore I had to buy ANOTHER ONE to make my biscotti recipe (king authur flour has the recipe). I've had to hide the container from the both of us and its still been hard not to snack on them. I do love cherries so its not easy.
When you BAKE with these you need to CHOP THEM UP into 1/4 or 1/8 THEN WASH THEM THEN COAT THEM IN FLOUR (or something similar) so they don't sink in the batter. You need to chop them first and them wash them. Why? You need to get the glaze off all over the chopped sides of the cherries. If you wash them and then cut them you will still have sticky sides on the cherries which will cause problems. *information learned from Mary Berry the famous baker in the UK on the TV Show The Great British Bake off and such or you might find the info in her book Mary Merry's Baking Bible. I saw the info on a recap show for the holiday special- it had fantastic tips!!!!! so much stuff I didn't know. (your library might have her books)
How the cherries taste: Very good! They are like marachino cherries- very candy like. Chewy moist great fruit texture. The cherries are nice and big and look exactly like the marachino cherries just with glaze. The color is very bright red in the red whole ones. I've not purchased the green ones. I think you could even use them as cute decore maybe on cupcakes.
I like to eat a couple as a little candy dessert before bed.
I think a strong must esp for holiday baking or a fun cherry celebration cake.
