There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
My main concern when buying this product was whether it would make strong enough coffee without having to reduce the amount of water (creating a less than full pot). I'm happy to say that it does.
The first several brews were trial and error (mostly error). Finally I decided to max it out on the finest grind setting, with the aroma setting dark (maximum), using Costco Starbucks beans and a paper filter (left their wire filter out). I'm now getting consistent pots that are a bit stronger than I usually get from Starbucks, and am experimenting with dialing it down a bit. I do believe that the paper filters may have been part of the solution (and are also the hot ticket for fast clean-up). Note that you can only use the finest grind setting when using medium or light roast beans. If you use dark roast beans, which are oilier, you run the risk of clogging the machine - according to the owner's manual. In that case, your coffee could be weaker - I don't know.
The coffee we have been making is great - even received an A rating from my wife, who is pretty selective. It's hot enough - but will cool after a while in the thermal carafe. After an hour or so, I'm likely to zap mine in the microwave briefly.
On all other attributes, we're extremely satisfied so far. It looks good, is simple to use (after reading the small manual thoroughly and a couple of reminders), and is a heck of a lot easier and more consistent than grinding your own beans. We have it on our kitchen counter, pushed back under our upper cabinet. It does not create dripping from the underside of the cabinets, despite making a fair amount of steam while brewing.
Cleanup is simple - just dump the filter and rinse the pot. No coffee bean bags and grinder to put away.
Making a pot is really easy as well. Add the right amount of water (e.g. 10 cups), set the machine to brew 10cups worth of beans, and press ON. Your grind and aroma settings don't change from pot to pot. Your beans are already there (but you need to refill them every 2-3 full pots).
Programming the pot for your morning coffee is easy as well. Since we get up every morning at the same time, it's usually just a matter of pressing the program button to turn it on. Put a new filter in, add the right amount of water (6 cups for the two of us), make sure you have enough beans, and press Program.
Changing the program means holding down the Program button to see your unique settings (e.g. 6 cups, dark aroma, 5:45am). They are not impacted by any other brews during the day, so you don't have to re-program it every day. Very easy - even my non-techie wife got it after a couple of demos.
Determining the water level is very easy, as other testers have said. There are easy-to-say plastic markers inside the water reservoir - just fill until they are covered. If you have it located somewhere where you can't see into it, or are vertically-challenged, you would find this inconvenient, as there is no external water level indicator. My wife is 5'1", and our counters are normal height; she can just barely peek in to see the level.
The thermal carafe is nicer than our last one (forget the brand). The lid pops on and off with a quick left-right twist. It does not spill water or coffee all over the place. It does hold some liquid inside due to a lip inside the carafe, which is waste but not mission-critical.
We found a cool set-up for our beans. It's called a CoffeeVac. It's a black canister that holds 1 lb of beans (they have different colors and sizes, but get an opaque one so the light doesn't go through and make your beans stale). It creates a vacuum to keep your beans fresh, and all it takes is a press of a button while opening or closing it. We keep it on the counter, and it only takes a few seconds to refill the bean container on the CoffeeTeam TS when needed.
Some folks have complained that the digital clock does not keep time. After 10 days or so, ours is still accurate.
Overall, very happy campers. The only risk I see at this point is any mechanical defects that may occur, but based on the reviews I've read I am hopeful this will last a while.
Update 1
An update to my first review: 2 years with the product and even more satisfied than a year ago. This machine has really outlasted my long history with Grind and Brew. More amazingly, have never had to clean the chute where the coffee travels from the grinder to the basket! Any G&B owner knows that issue. This product is a workhorse. It could quit on me today and I'd still be a very satisfied customer.
Have had this product for over a year now. For the past decade have had the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. The G&B has a long history of giving out in about 18 months. I just learned to live with it and that is the product life cycle. This time I decided to give the Capresso a try. Was a bit hesitant after reading some reviews but what the heck, Amazon will take it back. The grinding mechanism is so different from Cuisinart. I've had it for a year, use it every day and the ground coffee flow area has yet to need cleaning. Compared with the daunting task of having to disassemble a cuisinart just to give it a basic cleaning so more beans can be ground, the Capresso is a nothing. Just empty the grind basket, and hit the grind switch. No need to clean the area for the whole beans, the ground coffee flow area etc. There's nothing to this machine except the same as a regular drip coffee. The comments about the the cap being lose on the area that holds the beans is not an issue for me. I like not having to struggle with a component that is simply there to cover. There are multiple accurate settings to customize your coffee. I was a very loyal Grind and Brew Customer but after owning the Capresso I'm not going back to Cuisinart. For the price and features, this is a very good product.
