Underwater Kindle Edition
Because of one incident, my life will never be the same
Every day I struggled to breathe
Every day I went through the motions
I felt too much
I was numb
I was drowning
I was lost inside the black
So they made me go there
I was already there, watching from the dark
And then I met him
And then I saw her
He scared me to death
She took my breath away
He was darkness
She was my light
They whispered he can't be touched
She was the only one I could touch
I couldn't be with him, they needed me
I fucking needed her
So I told him I would be his friend
I told her I would be her friend. For now.
But I couldn't resist him for long
She finally realized that she'll always be mine
We were a hot mess
We were the perfect kind of mess
Then reality dawned on me
Then my demons broke loose
I was underwater, trying to break through to the surface
I reached out my hand, trying to pull her to shore
Could he really help me?
Would she accept me, scars and all?

About the author

I am thirty two years old and I live in a small town in Israel.
My family and I were going through some difficult times and one day I was confiding in my best-friend about everything. I didn't know how to deal with it all. Then she suggested I should write a book about it. I looked at her as if she had grown another head and dismissed the idea on the spot. But the seed had been planted, and day after day, little by little, without realizing it - I started writing.
That’s how Underwater was born.
I found writing to be cathartic, healing. Something that helped my mind unwind and put things in perspective. I discovered a magical world where I traveled between imagination and reality.
Writing became my home and I never wanted to leave.
I love to read, write, listen to music, edit videos, and play the guitar. I am always looking for the next creative thing. I also like a good movie and a glass of wine.

Wow! I'm in love with it. It is perfect for the emotional readers. I was genuiely touched by this story. I made me feel many emotions.

When Aria and her family receive the worse possible news she is thrown into a tailspin of taking care of everyone. While her heart is breaking she struggles to hold onto hope even as her parent’s relationship is erupting. The stress in all of their lives is wearing them down. Acting on advice from her aunt, she attends a support group. It is there that she meets Dorian with his scarred face and horrifying rumors that follow in his wake.
Dorian has survived a living nightmare and has not only the physical scars but the emotional ones to prove it. Lonely and cut off from everyone, he is simply existing in his isolation knowing there is nothing that could ever heal him. Until he sees Aria. Miraculously he is soon yearning for the touch of her hand, the press of her lips or even her mere presence. With Aria the darkness is made light and his nightmares are banished.
This was such a great read! I absolutely adored this couple and the complete connection they had with one another. Separately they are broken and struggling day to day but together they provide each other with the strength needed to face their deepest fears.
Aria was a strong heroine for one so young and the very backbone of her family. When everyone else is falling apart she remains strong even when she should be allowed to fall apart herself. In the face of Dorian’s torment she again rises to the challenge and is able to pull him from the brink.
Dorian was so broken and lost but once he finds Aria he morphs into a man whose sole purpose is to protect and cherish his woman. His dedication to her was unwavering as well as his constant support as she journeys down a path that will only lead to pain. He was one hundred percent pure alpha and a dream come true for this reader’s heart.
And it can’t go without saying that Aria’s relationship with her father as well as her struggle with his illness is so beautifully written and executed that I was in tears for many of the scenes where they are together. I am in awe that this is a debut novel and look forward to more from this author in the future.

***This review contains some Spoiler****
I know the author put her heart and soul into this book. Writing this story was very cathartic/therapeutic for her. Sadly, Maayan’s father did lose his battle to cancer. These emotion that Aria was feeling are emotions that Maayan was feeling. Some of the story is based on her real experience with that dealing with her father’s battle with cancer. The book also deals with affects that it has on the family. I think anyone who has had a family member or some close to them be diagnosed with cancer will be able to relate to parts of the story. The book also deals with the affects of war and death.
I loved the prologue. It turns out that Dorian and Aria met a long time ago. Aria was 10 or 11 at the time and Dorian was 17. Aria’s dog Ace ran away and she almost got hit by a car trying to rescue the dog but Dorian saved her. The dog was fine too. They didn’t tell didn’t tell each other their names. Dorian sensed that there was something special about Aria and he always remembered her striking green eye. Their interaction was really adorable.
Also, there was a bit of mystery in the prologue. Aria had an older brother named River and I got the sense that something bad happened to River but what exactly happened to River wasn’t revealed until later in the book.
Years pass until they cross paths again. Unfortunately, the years have not been kind to the two of them. The story jumps to present day. Aria finds out that her father has cancer and her whole world is turned upside down in an instant. It takes its toll on the family. Aria tries to deal with the situation the best she can.
I liked this quote in the book about cancer:
“I knew that I wasn’t acting normal, but what she didn’t understand was that this situation wasn’t normal. This disease didn’t come with a guide book for the family. I didn’t have a manual of how I should act. I tried my best to live every day the best that I could, and thought I was doing a pretty good job at it.”~ Maayan Nahmani
It is difficult to deal with a situation when you do not have much control over the situation. Everyone deals with things in different ways. Aria’s aunt encourages her to go to a support group. That is where Aria and Dorian cross paths again. Dorian helps out at the meetings but doesn’t really interact with people and he usually just sits in the corner. Aria is 19 and Dorian is 25.
They both are drawn to each other but they don’t remember meeting before. Dorian does sense a familiarity with Aria. He notices her striking green eyes. Also, they have gone through some similar situation because Dorian’s father had cancer.
Dorian was in the military. It’s been over four years since he got out of the military. He was captured and tortured by the enemy so he suffers from PTSD. It’s so bad that he cannot stand to be touched by anyone. He has trouble even being touched by his mother and little sister. It doesn’t bother him to be touched by Aria. Dorian was in a really dark place when he met Aria and she helped to bring him into the light. I like that they stuck together and weathered the storm together. Aria gives Dorian that push he needs to try therapy again.
There is no love triangle or drama with other men or women in the book. Once the couple gets together, they stay together and work through their problems together.
Also, Dorian isn’t a manwhore. It’s been years since he had sex. He was busy with military training and taking care of his father so he didn’t have time for girls. He dated but never had a girlfriend. After he got tortured, he couldn’t stand to be touched.
Aria has only had one boyfriend in high school and he is the only guy that she had sex with before Dorian. It bothered me that there weren’t any scene of Aria telling Dorian that she only had one boyfriend and was only with one guy. When Dorian admitted that he never had a girlfriend, I think that would have been a good time for Aria to say that she only had one boyfriend. I talked to the authors and she said that Arya does tell Dorian that she only had one boyfriend but I still wish that she would have told him during that scene in the book.
Also, Dorian tells Aria that he has never given or received oral sex. It wasn’t made clear whether Aria had even given or received oral sex in the past. It really bothered me that it wasn’t made clear. I talked to the Maayan and she said that Arya has never given or received oral sex either. She said that originally there was a scene where Arya did confirm to Dorian that she never did either but it was cut out of the book during editing. It still bothers me that the confirmation wasn’t given in the book. I feel like that shouldn’t have been cut out of the book. I feel it should be mentioned for both in the book or it should have just been cut out for Dorian too.
Also, I loved that they both a good set of parents in the book. They both had a good support system. I loved Aria’s friend Ella. She always offered a shoulder to lean on and she was really close to the family.
I wish that there would have been a little more interaction between Dorian and Aria’s family. In addition, would have liked to have seen some more interaction between Dorian’s family and Aria. It was more told than seen.
I liked that the author included quotes at the beginning of each chapter.
Another thing that I really liked about the book was that even though the book dealt with some tough issues, there was still some humor infused into the book.
Also, music played an important role in the book and served as a form of therapy.
I thought Dorian’s nickname for Aria was really cute. He called her Tiny.
I always love an Epilogue and this book had one. I thought the Epilogue was really nice.
The next book will be about Ella and man from Dorian’s past. The guy wants to try to make amends to Dorian. He was undercover when Dorian was being tortured. He posed as the leader of Dorian’s capturers but he was really working for Dorian’s side. I can’t wait to read that book. It will be nice to see more of Dorian and Aria.

I think the author did a tremendous job of conveying the confusion a family feels when going through something this horrible.
"Why him? Why us?"
"You can’t dress up the pain of this reality with flowery words."
"This disease didn’t come with a guide book for the family. I didn’t have a manual of how I should act. I tried my best to live every day the best that I could, and I thought I was doing a pretty good job at it."
This was a wonderful tribute and I have no doubt that the inspirer would be proud <3
That being said, I didn't love it as much as I wanted to. BUT... and I cannot stress this enough... this is totally a ME thing. 100%.
I'm not a fan of insta-love, sometimes I can handle it, but more often than not it doesn't work for me. And the insta-love theme was very present here. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's just not my favorite and so it was hard for me to fully enjoy it. I really wish their relationship would have been more fleshed out, it felt too quick and while I loved how in love they were (I absolutely adored the prologue and how it tied into their story), I just wish there would have been more build up. But like I said, this is totally a me thing. If you're a fan of insta-love then you absolutely need to read this, I think you'll enjoy it!
Insta-love aside, I was really impressed with the story and I'm definitely looking forward to more of this author's work :)
