Marco Russo is a business intelligence mentor and consultant in Business Intelligence.
He founded SQLBI, which provides mentoring and consulting on Business Intelligence based on Microsoft technologies. He has particular competence and experience in sectors like financial services, manufacturing, gambling, and commercial distribution.
Marco is a Microsoft MVP and an SSAS Maestro, the highest level of certification in Microsoft Analysis Services. In addition to his BI-related publications, he has authored books about .NET programming.
Today, Marco focuses his time on SQLBI customers, traveling extensively to train and consult on DAX and data modeling for Power BI and Analysis Services. Marco also teaches public classes worldwide.
Marco also speaks at international conferences such as Microsoft Fabric, PASS Summit, and SQLBits.
Alberto started working with SQL Server in 2000 and immediately his interest focused on Business Intelligence. He and Marco Russo created sqlbi.com, where they publish extensive content about Business Intelligence.
Alberto published several books about Analysis Services, Power BI, and Power Pivot. He is a Microsoft MVP and he earned the SSAS Maestro title, the highest level of certification on Microsoft Analysis Services technology.
Today, Alberto's main activities are in the delivery of DAX and data modeling workshops for Power BI and Analysis Services all around the world. Alberto offers consulting services on large and complex data warehouses to provide assessments and validation of project analysis or to perform specific problem-solving activities.
Alberto is a well-known speaker at many international conferences, like PASS Summit, Sqlbits, and Microsoft Ignite. He loves to be on stage both at large events and at smaller user groups meetings, exchanging ideas with other SQL and BI fans. When traveling for work, he likes to engage with local user groups to provide evening sessions about his favorite topics. Thus, you can easily meet Alberto by looking up local Power BI user groups during scheduled courses.
Outside of SQLBI, most of Alberto's personal time is spent practicing video games, in the vain hope of eventually beating his son.

DAX is a language that, at first glance, looks a lot like Excel and is pretty easy to learn for an advanced Excel user but the language quickly becomes more difficult if you haven't taken the time to understand its foundations - and that's what this book addresses ... in great detail. I've worked full-time with DAX for over three years now and I had lightbulbs going off constantly as I was reading this book. Incredible feeling, thank you.
Said another way, there is knowledge in this book that will be hard to appreciate, that you'll miss entirely, unless you've had lots of experience with DAX. Beginners will get something from the book undoubtedly but it's really a book aimed at taking people from intermediate to expert. I agree with other reviewers who have suggested that DAX beginners start with Albert & Marco's other book "Microsoft Excel 2013 Building Data Models with PowerPivot"
Later chapters describe the Vertipaq engine, and how to optimize both the data model and DAX queries. There's also plenty of examples on using DAX Studio (this is something I couldn't find in any other books). If you are looking to REALLY learn DAX, then this book is for you. It takes time and effort to get through all of this material, but it is well worth it. Marco and Alberto are the DAX Masters! Their DAX Workshop video is based upon the content in this book, and is excellent. Highly recommended.

Studying this book is not only enlightening but also you can enjoy the beauty of this language though it is a little tough to understand for an ExcelPro. The way they explain things are very lucid and straight. I've been studying, studying, studying this book for the last 12 months to trying to chew, understand everything about DAX..still miles to go. But one should be very patient when reading this since it is voluminous.
This book is not for everyone, that is why you see many negative comments in amazon.com. I highly recommend this book for any aspiring DAX expert. I also recommend other books before you touch this for obvious reasons.
