From the manufacturer
Is the Power Scrub safe for use on all carpets and rugs?
The Power Scrub is safe to use on most rug types including Nylon, Polyolefin, Polyester, Acrylic (composition of many small area and throw rugs). Always check manufacturer’s label before cleaning for any specific instructions
Can the Power Scrub clean hard floors and furniture?
We do not recommend using this on hard floors. The HOOVER Power Scrub was designed for carpet cleaning only. However, this product does come with a cleaning hose and variety of tools to clean stairs and furniture!
Why will my Power Scrub Elite not turn on?
If using for the first time and it will not turn on or won’t stay on, you may need to press a bit harder on the switch. The switch may need a bit more force to activate it the first time
Why is it making a high-pitched whirring sound during operation?
If you hear a high-pitched whirring sound, this indicates that your dirty water tank is full and needs to be emptied
What cleaning solution should I use with the Power Scrub?
We recommend using only genuine Hoover solutions for best cleaning results. Hoover has a wide variety of cleaning solutions that pair perfectly with the Power Scrub

Customers like the performance of the carpet upholstery cleaning machine. They say it's lightweight, does as good a job as the rentals, and the extension scrubber does work well. This was very easy to assemble (two screws to attach handle) and understand. I started using the attachment on my furniture. This hose is long and easy to maneuver, and two heads are included. There may be another head specifically for furniture; the one I used, with bristles, was designated for stairs but I didn't want to order another item and then wait for it to arrive. I wanted to get cleaning pronto. I cleaned (deep and regular) for a few runs and then rinsed for a few runs, followed by plain vacuuming. This took days of running the machine twice a day until the water cleared up (my furniture has seen three dogs over 4-5 years). I'll never get all of the hairs out of the attachment bristles but I don't mind that; the tool worked wonderfully. The spray head on the hose (to distribute the soap and water) was a mess at first. The spray is quite broad and it got on walls, windows, etc. You depress a little switch which seems to run on a hydraulic type of mechanism. It takes several seconds to shut itself off so if you don't manually force the switch back to the "off" position you get more water/soap than you want on the item to be cleaned. I soon figured out how to finesse that. I originally pressed very hard into the cushions to soak up as much water as possible. I then decided to compare the amount of water getting sucked up with heavy pressure and with light pressure (just keeping the tool in contact with the cushion). The amount of water was essentially the same, which was very impressive to me.
Once the furniture was done, I moved to my area rugs and carpets. Same thing: soap (deep and regular cleaning) for a few runs, followed by rinsing and vacuuming alone (again, took a few days until the water came back as clear as I wanted).
I was very impressed with how clean this got all of my surfaces. It's done an amazing job and it was a pleasure to use. The machine is light and easy to maneuver, even with a full tank of water. The dirty water tank was easy to remove and empty. I used the capped pour spout more often than actually unhinging and removing the tank's lid.
Cleaning out the whole system takes some effort. The dirty water tank has a lot of little crevices that I can't reach easily. Tips of scissors covered in paper towels as well as cotton-tipped swabs did a pretty good job. I'm letting it all air dry in the bathroom for a while before putting it away. I'd hate for any surfaces to get moldy.
This is a great system, easy to use and very effective. I highly recommend it!
P.S. This did come with a sample size of carpet cleaner; I didn't use it. I had another product that specifically said it was for carpets and upholstery, so I used that.
The unit arrived in a largish but not overly heavy box. Once opened, the assembly was a breeze: All you need is a Phillips head screwdriver, which you use to attach the handle to the base unit. All other parts simply click into place. Then you simply pour in the cleaning solution in the "solution" part of the tank, and hot tap water in the "water" part of the tank.
Carpet cleaning itself is a multi-stage process: You set the cleaner on "deep" or "quick" clean mode, depending on how deep you want the water to penetrate and/or how long you want to wait for the carpet to dry. Then you push the cleaner forward, slowly, and then reverse course, while squeezing the handle trigger down. After you've done that, you go forward and back over the same path without holding the trigger down (to suck up the water). After you've done that for the area you're working on, you turn a switch to "rinse" mode, and then repeat the whole process. This gets more of the cleaning solution residue out of your carpet. Then you move to the next area.
All of this takes time, and effort. I've gained a new appreciation for professional carpet cleaners, because this is not nearly as easy as pushing a vacuum around. For one thing, the unit is heavier and harder to maneuver than the average upright vacuum. (Helpful tip: When going upstairs, carry the water tank separately and wait until you're upstairs to attach it, to cut down on the weight.) For another, you want to move slowly so as to get good coverage of your carpet. And then there's the fact that every so often you have to stop to empty out the dirty water that's been sucked up, as well as refill the clean water / solution tanks. You also need to plan in advance just how you're going to cover your areas; I found through experience that it was easier to negotiate the power cord if I did multiple sets of shorter rows than big long rows.
How did it work? Well, I was favorably impressed, impressed enough to give the unit a five-star rating. I was aghast, actually, at how dirty the water was the first time I emptied the dirty water tank--I've attached a photo so you could see it. I had no idea my carpets were that filthy. Yikes. I also was impressed with the upholstery cleaning capabilities. There is an accessory tube/nozzle included that allows you to clean furniture (and carpeted staircases). I'm also attaching a before-and-after photo of an ottoman we own that's had a prominent stain for years. As you can see, the stain didn't go away completely, but it was an old stain and it's a heck of a lot better than it was before. I'm pleased with how it turned out.
So, are there any negatives? Just a couple of minor quibbles. First, the instruction manual has diagrams and instructions for how to REMOVE the dirty water tank, but nothing at all about how to attach it back ON, only an "important" warning that "it is important that the Dirty Water Tank Lid is securely in place. (see Figs. E, F, and G)." It took me literally half an hour to find Figures E, F, and G, which did not show up until 9 pages later in the manual--a little pointer to the right page number would've been helpful. Second, I was a little taken aback at how often I had to stop and empty the dirty water and refill the clean water tank, as well as how quickly the cleaning solution went. I used up the entire sample bottle of cleaner that was provided with the unit merely in cleaning the traffic path in two rooms, a hallway, and the ottoman, and I had to refill the water three times in doing so. It's possible I went over the areas too much and rinsed them more than necessary. I'll need to experiment with it more in the future.
But in all, I think this is a wonderful appliance for people who have lots of pets and/or children, and who want something for spot cleanings or to make their carpets look good in between professional cleanings. (Especially if you are like my household and are too lazy/forgetful to schedule the professional cleanings as often as recommended.)

It is important to note that I do keep a clean house. Never are shoes allowed to be worn in my house and I even have a house keeper that vacuums regularly yet I still pulled this (attached pic) dirt out.

2. Best to take off the tanks during transport. And cradle it by the handle and machine head. The pivot point between the handle and head could fail if the plastic part breaks in the long run.
3. Great performance, cleaned 50 sq ft and still has a quarter tank of clear water left. The quick clean mode did a decent job, the carpet does not feel soaked and should dry in a couple of hours (largely due to the humid weather we are having).
4. All the parts unsnaps for a post job cleaning. The rotary brushes work well over shaggy carpet, but is difficult to clean afterwards. The dust and hair fibres got tangled up. You need a fine tooth comb to get most of them out. And there are five of them, quite a chore.
5. The rotary brushes have a safety feature to stop spinning when you transitioned from carpet to tile floor. To reset, put the handle back to the upright position and tilt back again.
6. The crucial factor is speed. One improvement maybe a mouse like device at the bottom to gauge speed. If I am going too fast, tell me so that I may slow down to get a good clean.
Overall good machine for household use. Thank you Hoover.
