If this is a gift for a newbie then you will enjoy the retro game play technology, it's fun and simple and seems built well.
However, if you want to be taken back to your childhood days of championship glory, look elsewhere for an original.
This is a look alike that gets the adrenaline flowing until you discover that the right side keye are off center, in comparison to the original , and that the perimeter of the keys is to high to allow playing the right side as I the original. Those distractions pale however when you finally do score and find out that you are rewarded with an alternative goal reponse, and not the original tune hymn that played after a touchdown.
Having Trained as an attorney, I understand the the attempt to deny infringements with Matel' classic sound, but those few details totally ruin the remenisance wanted or craved by an Alumni of the game; and in all practicality do very little to protect against an obvious copying of the original.
If you miss the real one, go buy an original one, because this one will truly disappoint.
If you or the recipient have never played an original and want a retro game, the price and quality are great, so enjoy it.
In closing, I will say that the original was about $35 in 1979, which was not peanuts by any stretch of consumption. So that replacement today of $27 is relatively cheap and probably well worth the throwback fun, if that's what you want to share with a novice.
For, me, I would recommend a preserved $50 or $100 original anytime over tHe imitation that just cannot meet the hand held playing accuracy or the rewarded music playing memories of a touchdown. I did have an original and they do hold up with care to be a worthy buy.
