About the Author

Originally from Switzerland, Sabrina Weiss is a London-based science communicator who works for an environmental society and as a freelance writer. She previously worked in the non-profit, aviation, and technology sectors, tasked with presenting complex information in an engaging and understandable way.

Since completing her masters in communication design in 2012, Giulia De Amicis has been working as a visual designer and illustrator. Her work mainly focuses on presenting information through graphics for newspapers, magazines, and the environmental sector, with a particular interest in marine ecology, geography, and human rights.

Earth is often referred to as the blue planet. That nickname stems from the vast water bodies that cover two-thirds of this amazing planet. Earth’s oceans are home to millions of animals and plants, and produce more than half of the oxygen we breath every day. Did you know that salt in seawater comes from rocks and is carried by rivers into the ocean? Did you know that manatees are a relative of the elephant? The deepest recorded free dive using a single breath is 830 feet. Are your curious to learn more?

In this guide to the ocean, readers will get specific with ocean terms and the types of animals and plants that thrive in or around these waters. From the tiniest marine life to the largest polar bears all animals need water and can exist in some of the most extreme temperatures. This book has so much information in it, all presented beautifully-the graphics, text, pictures. I am reading it to my kids every night-2 or 3 pages a night as there are so many details on each page-and am learning as much as they are. Highly recommend it.
