Our 14 year old Shih Tzu broke his toe and these save our lives for his bandages! He could do his business outside and not get anything wet. If your dog is in bandages, don’t leave it on all day because their body temperature will create condensation in the balloon. They’re durable, but if our dog got lazy and dragged his foot on the pavement then it wouldn’t last more than 2 days. A package lasted about a month for us.

My Lucy loves to get into the pool, but with the new liner her nails have already put a tear in it. I finally saw these and decided to give them a try. They are initially hard to get on...I needed my granddaughter to help me...but after that, I got the hang of them. They work well, but water still gets in them. They are perfect for what I need them for and she can still swim in the pool. I want her to wear them more...like when it rains, but I'm not ready for that battle yet. I've tried them out twice...I will see how they hold up for the summer.

First, I received a package that had already been opened with 5 Pawz missing, but this review is not regarding that experience- this review is for the product only. My family was going camping on an island for the weekend, so I got these for my 12 lb Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to protect her paws from the hot sand, sharp shells, and fiberglass canoe bottom. I tried them out briefly at the house to make sure they fit her and to see if she would wear them; I found them easy to get on and off, and found that they were a bit snug around the top, but didn't seem too bad. She took to them in about 30 seconds, and was quickly darting around the house with her new traction. She seemed to love them. I thought they were perfect.

Fast forward to two days later, when we used them for their intended purpose. I had them on her for about 5-6 hours, and they seemed to be holding up very well- I had just trimmed her nails, so there was no wear there. They stood up to the beach and the wooded areas of the island with no rips or tears. I was so happy they were working! Then, I noticed she was walking with a limp. I took off the Pawz to investigate, thinking maybe she got a thorn or something, and all of her little paws were so swollen! Her paw pads, toes, everything- the whole paw below the ankle where this thing covered was about twice the size they normally are. She never gave any indication at all that they were bothering her! Never whined or messed with them, never even paid them notice. I felt HORRIBLE. I didn't even consider the fact that dogs will often not give any indication when something is bothering them. She was MISERABLE for the rest of the trip- she could hardly walk, and spent most of the time hiding out under the picnic table. I carried her everywhere for the rest of the trip. It took TWO DAYS for her to stop limping and for her paw size to go back to normal. I am so worried at what lasting damage I could have caused by using these wretched things! They DID NOT seem too tight for her- in fact, I found it pretty easy to get a finger under the band to remove them.

DO NOT USE THESE! These should not be on the market. If you decide the use of this product is still worth the risk of the lasting damage it could do to your beloved pup, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION to your dog's behavior while he/she is wearing them. If there is ANY indication whatsoever of adverse effects, IMMEDIATELY DISCONTINUE USE!

Several months after we got our (rescued) collie, she began to lick her feet, biting the pads until they were red and bleeding! We worked with our vet to determine that it was a grass/weeds (spring/summer) weeds and grass allergy. We gave her medication (which did help) - but then I came across these. The first set I bought (Blue) was just a LITTLE tight - but within 3 days of me putting them on her for EVERY trip outside...the biting and licking were gone! I purchased another set (Purple) and BINGO! These fit very well (I do need to keep her nails reasonably short for the best fit). I am confused with people who say they are so hard to get on because we don't experience that at all - granted, the EASIEST is for two people - one lifts a paw while the dog is standing, the other slides the boot on. (They are easy also if the dog is laying on the couch - something my dogs are really into anyway!) However, I can get them on her by myself with relative ease. For allergy purposes they MUST be on for every trip out (yeah, when I'm tired it seems like a bit of a hassle - but if I don't put them on, I regret it when she licks!). During the height of the season, I also sometimes wipe off her legs above the boots when she comes in, using a damp cloth. Anyone who has a dog with paw allergies knows how minor doing this would be compared to the worry of endless licking, chewing and bleeding paws. :( One set has lasted TWO SEASONS. Not one tear. Occasionally she (or another dog) will step on one, and pull it off. The Purple color makes it easy for me to find it in the yard. I LOVE THESE THINGS!! I have NEVER had an instance of the top "cutting" the ankle (if it's that tight, the boot is too small, in my opinion). They are sturdy and do the job I need them to do! Best of all, she takes NO more medication.

I purchased these based on the sizing chart and the paw part fit well, but the neck of the shoe was a little tight. This is great because they don't fall off and they even stayed on during a free run outside. I found them to be durable but I think it is important that your dog's nails are a little short or at least blunted on the end so they don't rip through. Getting them on was easy and they didn't slip around once on.

For me personally I put these on my dog's foot at bedtime to keep her from licking a raw paw pad and antiseptic powder inside to keep it clean and dry. Sadly the tight neck of the shoe caused my dog's foot to swell and the rubber is very waterproof but it also means that water that gets on your dogs leg will follow the skin and get inside the shoe and cause damage. My dog was annoyed by the shoe and licked her leg above it which then dripped down into the shoe. Even if my dog did not have an injury to her paw I feel like wearing these with so much wetness inside would cause damage to her foot. I think these are best for short indoor stints like an old dog who slips or during a short walk and then take them off.

I put these for when it's muddy outside or if it's heavily snowed or rained (or raining). Protects her feet from that mud, or from excessive road salt which I hear is bad for dogs' paws.
