Poorly Designed, Not Secure, and Requires Expert Installation

Poorly Designed, Not Secure, and Requires Expert Installation
This item is not as described. It is lightweight, NOT secure for small animals, and requires a very skilled user with specific tools to put it together. Only half of the holes are predrilled, so it requires someone with a high-powered drill and the skill to appropriately predrill the remaining holes. The hinged lid does not fit against the walls of the house properly. The small screws on the hinges actually hit right where two pieces of wood come together, so the screws go into the crack — I'm just waiting for screws to pull out over time. The trim pieces on the roof were nailed with tiny nails and were falling off. There is no way to secure the hinged lids on the house, so any smart animal could simply lift those lids right open and get to your pets inside. There were also screws missing. The top of the run had no holes predrilled at all. The wood is barely waterproofed, so the wood that touches the ground will rot very quickly. There is no way to reach the animals if they are in the run — no doors or access at all. So if the animals don't go into the house, you cannot reach them without turning the entire cage/habitat on its side, which would allow the animals to escape if you aren't careful. (It took two of us to get the guinea pigs to bring them in for the night — my husband to turn it on its side and me to grab them.) If this were an inexpensive item, that would be one thing. But for $140, it should be better built and designed. I am fortunate that my husband has the skill to do what needed to be done. He predrilled all the holes as necessary, drilled a hole in the hinged lid into which we can insert wire to secure it, and cut pressure treated wood as a base under the walls so the bottom of the walls won't rot. Eventually, he will need to hinge the lid to the run, as well, so we can actually reach the piggies if we need to bring them in and they aren't inside the house. It has been a lot of work just to make it safe and functional. The habitat is now usable and attractive, but only because I am fortunate enough to have a husband with the skills and tools to assemble and modify it. But for the average pet owner, it would be very difficult to assemble, and without significant modification, it is not secure for outdoor use.

We bought this for our two young New Zealand bunnies and they love it. Decent cedar wood construction. It's not heavy duty but you're getting what you pay for. We use it indoors on a sheet of plywood (it doesn't have a bottom) and it works well. Having the roof open is nice as well as being able to remove the top on the open area. Our only complaint is that there's no door or access to the space under the enclosed part. When the bunnies don't want to be caught, they know they can hide and evade us under there. We plan to unscrew the front panel on that lower area and replace it with latches for easy on/off.

I don't think there will be a problem with the bunnies chewing on the hutch as long as we keep the floor covered in good quality hay (which is 80% of their diet) and give them veggies and treats each day.

Cons:
-The structure was kind of flimsy and a few pieces were broken before I started (pics below)
-The directions were terrible and you pretty much need two people to put it together
-There needs to be some type of gripping material on the ramp (this was only a temporary solution)
Pros:
-There is plenty of space for my 3 guinea pigs
-The hutch is very pretty
Modifications I made:
-I added a base because I use the hutch inside
-Added a hinge and latch to the bottom section of screen for easier cleaning and access to the pigs. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS!
-I made the top of the screened in area removable with some industrial Velcro. It stuck right on and the top is secured when needed. (I would recommend this as well because it makes life much easier.
Would I buy again? Yes the cage serves my pigs well.

The hutch looks good. It's a nice size for my button quails. Overall, the hutch is kind of flimsy. The wooden piece that covers the peak of the roof is thin and especially flimsy, and broke within two days. The removable metal tray has very sharp edges and fits so tightly within the opening that it is hard to remove and insert. Also, if the sides of the run are not spaced far enough apart (there are no marks to show where to drill), the top of the run will not fit and you will have to take the screws back out and space them again. I HIGHLY recommend reinforcing the bottom by attaching 1/4" mesh hardware cloth to keep predators from digging under. Other modifications that I made include: Putting a piece of plexiglass in the side window to make the house less drafty, stained the wood with weatherproof wood stain, put a piece of plexiglass on top of run so animals can be outside during rain, varmint-proofed the door latch.

The pieces did not properly fit together. We had to modify to design with a saw to get pieces to fit. The hinges roof did not close all of the way after fitting to the manufactures suggested drill areas. We had to remove a piece to make it fit. The name is deceiving. It’s definitely not a large rabbit hut. It’s very small and probably better fitting for a hamster or guinea pig. Definitely not satisfied. It’s cheap, and feels like it could fall apart in the wind. Its very well made if you purchased all supplies on your own and made this yourself it wouldn't be worth it this is worth it! Just take your time and line it all up on even ground, tbe directions arent the best but its mostly common sense as for what size screws you need to use amd where. The hinges are fine and it even came with latches or support arms for the roof so they dont get over extended when opening the top of the enclosure. Good product for the price and free shipping I'm very happy with this purchase!
