The Proraso Brand Story
Founded in 1908 by Ludovico Martelli, Proraso has been innovating professional highest-quality products in the shaving world for generations, and has evolved to become a staple of Italian culture. From the first Pre-Shave cream in 1948, to now, the Martelli family principles hold true: to create professional, quality products that deliver a pleasurable and impeccable shave, in the barbershop and at home.
Proraso Shaving Cream Sensitive Skin
Proraso Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin is enriched with Oatmeal Extract and Green Tea for an emollient and soothing effect. It's the ideal way to calm redness and irritation caused by shaving.
Proraso Shaving Cream in a Tube is still made today in accordance with a rigorous 'hot soap'-making process, during which it's left to mature for 3 days, resulting in an ultra-rich soap that, especially with the aid of a brush, produces an incomparably thick, creamy, soft lather. It makes for a close and comfortable shave, while protecting the skin and leaving it soft and hydrated.
How to use:
Soak your Proraso brush in a bowl or cup filled with hot water for 5 – 10 minutes before your shave. Apply a warm, damp towel to your face (or splash face with warm water) to open the pores and prep your face for shaving. Once done, apply your favorite Proraso Pre-Shave Cream. Apply another hot towel, holding it to your face for 15 to 20 seconds. After the brush has soaked, gently squeeze out excess water, still leaving the brush mostly wet. Squeeze about 2cm of your choice of Proraso Shave Cream between the bristles of the brush and massage into your stubble or scruff using circular motion. Dip the tip of your brush back into your hot water and continue working the brush into your facial hair. After a couple minutes of 'working' the brush in your facial hair, the shaving cream turns into a creamy and compact lather that will soften all beard types, making shaving a pleasant daily ritual. Shave and rinse face thoroughly. For an optimal experience, finish with another application of your warm, damp towel, followed by your favorite Proraso After Shave Balm or Lotion.

Short on time? Apply your favorite Proraso Pre-Shave Cream to your damp face, for optimal results. If using a shaving brush, run it under hot running water for about 30 seconds (if you don't have time to soak it). Squeeze about 2 centimeter of the Shaving Cream onto your brush, dampen face with warm water, and work the brush into your scruff/stubble. You should be able to achieve an excellent lather in about a minute.
If using your hands, work cream and water together between the palm of your hands until suds begin to form. Apply mixture into your stubble using your fingers, massaging in circular movements until a lather forms. This method also works well if you’re shaving in the shower. Shave and rinse, following with your favorite Proraso After Shave Balm or Lotion.

---|---|---|---|
Morning is the best time to shaveYour skin is at its softest and most relaxed just after you wake up, so the razor glides easier. |
Always use a Proraso Pre-Shave CreamIt softens and straightens the hairs, making it easier to apply the shaving cream to your beard and pre-conditions the skin. |
Wrap your face in a warm, wet towelJust like traditional barbers do. Otherwise, shave after your morning shower when the skin is soft and hydrated from the warm water. |
The best lather comes from a brush and shaving cream or soapApplying shaving cream or soap with a brush increases the volume of your beard hair and allows for a closer shave. To build up a rich lather, wet your shaving brush and apply the cream in fast, repeated circular motions to coat the brush bristles well. |

While shaving, use a delicate, but firm strokeDon't put too much pressure on the razor and follow the lines of your face, always keeping the skin pulled tight. |
Keep your razor cleanRinse the blade with hot water at least once every two swipes of the razor. Residue from past shaves can reduce the blades' effectiveness and increase the risk of damaging your skin. Also, remember to change your razor often. |
For the perfect shave, one pass just doesn't cut itLather your face a second time and repeat the shave. |
Don't neglect your post-shave routineRinse your face well and repeatedly to remove any residue. |

Always use Proraso After Shave Balm or LotionEven if you've shaved to perfection, your skin may still feel stressed and will need to be disinfected, restored and softened. |
Take care of your skinEspecially if you don't shave every day, or have problems with ingrown hair, apply a face cream daily. |

And the scent is nice as well.
One of the best shaving creams you can find on the market !
a very old italian brand made in Italy.
For a great shave, I will always recommend Proraso's products!
If you're finding that irritation is a problem, and you're bouncing from blade manufacturer to blade manufacturer, try this formula. I know some folks have a sensitivity to nickel, or sometimes the hyper-scientific marketing termed blade coatings; this problem is no joke. This formula, with green tea and oatmeal may be just the ticket.
Want to try it? Preparation is key for this experiment, so let your face or scalp rest for a few days, to heal and rest; just deal with the stubble, and let the haters hate. Mount up your trusted, tried-and-true blade of choice, and lather up with the sensitive skin magical brew, and have yourself a shave. Be mindful of your technique, because you'll be more aware of how this formula provides such a solid and pleasant cushion and glide for your razor. Done shaving? Great now hold up...Don't use your usual post-shave routine. Got an alum block? If not, get one. I suggest the Proraso block, it's made in ITALY, not CHINA...so you can have a bit more confidence that the block is alum, not some mystery composition. After applying the alum, wait a full minute, and rinse with COLD water, then PAT, not wipe or rub your face dry. Give yourself at least thirty seconds, and apply the sensitive skin post-shave balm, you don't want to use something with alcohol in it, which may dry out your freshly shaved face or scalp. Next? Reap the benefits of a great shave, without the usual irritation. As always, YMMV with any and all shaving related products.
Just a personal note about the fragrance. This formula has what I'd describe as a citrus-like scent. I find it clean, and refreshing. But, you know how it goes, others categorize it as awful. I would say that it is nowhere near as polarizing as the scent of ARKO (urinal cake, anyone?). If you like some of the grapefruit smelling citrus based shaving soaps, creams, and aftershave stuff out there, this will not disappoint.
sporting a shaved head because I was tired of looking at my receding hairline that gets a little bit worse every year.
I have sported a full beard off and on since 2006. I still have to shave my neck and clean up my cheeks and eye brow area along with trimming my nether regions. I have used a plethora of different disposable razors and shave gels. My go to before discovering shaving cream and soaps was usually Gillette Sensitive Shave Gel.
Occasionally I would use cheap body wash to shave or just dry shave with the disposables. Needless to say I got used to having razor burn and bumps that would usually go away in a day or two until I shaved again. I just learned to live with it and thought that it wasn't possible for me to not have bumps and ingrown hairs.
I started using a shavette and a Handlebar Shaving Company Oculus Matte Black Stainless Steel Safety Razor about 4 months ago. The latter is a super aggressive short handled DE. I picked up a Merkur 37c Slant Bar Safety Razor last week. The past couple of months I have also been experimenting with various shave soaps and shaving creams.
I started using this shaving cream last week. This cream has been a game changer. I have zero razor burn, and zero bumps and ingrown hairs. It's nothing short of a miracle. This cream allows for many mistakes with all 3 of my razors. I have fallen in love with it. The cream creates a thick and creamy lather; and mighty easy to whip up I may add.
If you have sensitive skin and/or coarse facial hair I can highly recommend this cream. I will add that the scent may take some getting used to. It is hard to describe except for saying that it has a peculiar, but pleasing natural smell.
I am going to try the soap next, but I can't imagine it being better than the cream. Easily 5 stars and I don't give those out that often.
