I Love the Life Application Study Bibles!

I Love the Life Application Study Bibles!
Years ago, a friend of mine had given me Life Application Study Bible NIV and I absolutely love that Bible! It was the nicest version I ever had and I really liked the format and how easy it is to read and understand it. This year, I started becoming more and more interested in studying the Bible. My church uses the New International Version (NIV) most of the time but some people I know also use the New Living Translation (NLT) so I decided to get the Life Application Study Bible in the NLT version. For this Bible, you can choose the paperback, personal size, large print and hardcover versions and I opted to buy the hardcover version since that's what my NIV Bible is and I love how that one looks. The New Living Translation (NLT) version of the Holy Bible is a version that is popular with many readers of the Bible. According to my research and what I've been told of this version, it's a very easy version to understand while still maintaining the meaning of the original text, as accurately as possible. The Life Application Study Bible is more than a regular Bible. This version is published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc and this particular edition was published in 2004. It contains notes, maps, important information about each particular book (such as the purpose, author, approximate date written, setting, etc.), and themes. From beginning to end, it contains family information for you to fill in (marriages, births, deaths, etc.), contents, a list of the books of the Bible, an introduction to the NLT version, the names of those who helped translate this version, contributors, in-depth descriptions of the features of this version as well as the books of the Bible, of course! At the beginning of each book of the Bible, there is important information about the book that's great to read before you start reading so you have some ideas about it. Nearly all of the pages contains a lot of notes for many of the verses that help you understand what you've read better. In the New Testament, anything spoken by Jesus is written in red which I love because that stands out very easily. At the end are some resources, reading plans, indexes, concordance, and colorful maps. This version contains about 2,415 pages, is printed on onionskin paper, and is bound in a nice hard cover. The cover is green (the NIV version is red) and it measures 6 7/8 inches by 9 1/2 inches by 2 inches. This Bible is printed in South Korea.I already knew when I ordered this version what kind of Bible I would be getting since I had the NIV version of it. I love this Study Bible just as much as my NIV Bible although I use that one more. I love the translation and find it very easy to use. The notes are extremely helpful and I find that I learn a lot more by using a Study Bible. This is a bigger Bible but I think it's worth it to get one with more notes, especially if you are interested in studying the Bible. I used both versions in a Bible study I was in this summer and it was fun to see the differences! Some of the resources I like to use with my Bibles are Bible tabs, covers, and highlighters. The size of this Bible needs a large cover such as Pink "Love" Large Bible / Book Cover - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. I use tabs such as Majestic Traditional Gold-Edged Bible Tabs and the highlighters I use are Accu-Gel Bible Highlighter Study Kit (Pack of 6). I've found all of these items work well with this Bible.I love this Bible and am happy I purchased this one! I now have both the NIV and NLT versions of the Life Application Study Bible and I love comparing what they say. The NLT version is great if you want one that's easy to read yet still is close in translation to the original text. I recently purchased another one of this same Bible for a close friend of mine who prefers the NLT version. She loves it and says it has become her favorite Bible! If you are looking for a Bible for yourself or for a gift, I highly recommend this Bible!

I've been a Christian since I was a child, but even into my newly 30s, I could never keep my head in the bible becuase it was so annoyingly confusing. One thing I hate about studying the bible is just continuously hitting verses that don't make sense, and then I gotta stop and do more research on it. Then, I return to reading, and hit another verse I don't understand, and then it's the same routine over and over. For this reason, I just hinder studying the bible.

So, after ranting to somebody about it, they suggested I get an application bible, which I had never heard before. Just two days into it, it's successfully KEEPING me in the bible. What I enjoy is that there's additional commentary either above or usually at the bottom of the page that explains almost EVERY verse in detail. In fact, this book is so detailed that at first, I was worried about how much of a ramble it was, but it's worth reading to help you be more intimate with God's word, and even gain a better perspective then to rely on how ignorant I was. There's so much thorough material to read that it's taking me a very long time to finish Genesis.

1) I appreciate the commentary and the additional bonus histories that may relate to the passages.
2) I appreciate the timelines (years), and even the maps given to demonstrate where an event happened.
3) It tells you who wrote each book.
4) Right at the end of each chapter, It gives guidelines/summary of who a character was; their weakness, who they are related to, and how many times they were mentioned in the bible.
5) There is red text to pinpoint Christ's dialogue. When comparing my old NIV bible to this, it didn't have that, but does have the same material; so nothing (to my knowledge so far) has been left out.

One thing I have to caution people on is be light in marking or highlighting on the pages, becuase they do bleed through the VERY paper-thin pages. So, maybe putting sticky tabs at the edge of the page may work better.

I will update as I go.

As someone who's interested in learning more about the bible with very little religious background, this is a great resource. I really like the extensive footnotes which provide more in depth explanations of the passages, provide historical perspective, and additional references. I am using their 365 day reading plan to help me read the highlights thru out the bible in short managable readings (typically 3-4) paragraphs per day. This bible version includes great overviews for each Book of the Bible, provides biographies of the "famous" & not so well known biblical figures, and lots of maps to illustrate where the events took place. The maps provide both the historic sites as well as current day cities / countries so its much easier to relate and understand where the events took place. Having packed so much info into one text, the book is on the heavy side (good resource for a stationary place...I would not want to carry this between locations) and the pages are very thin (like tissue) so you "see" the text from the page's other side. I purchased the full size version, but I understand there is a personal sized version too which may be more portable.

5.0 out of 5 stars NLT Life Application Study Bible (New Living Translation)
Reviewed in Canada on February 1, 2019
This bible is priceless. It is translated meaning for meaning so we can fully understand what the scriptures really meant at the time it was written. Many bibles are translated word for word, which sometimes we just don't get what the chapter means because some of the words used, or how the sentences are phrased, don't sound like what we hear and speak like nowadays. This bible sticks to exactly what God intended in the Old Testament as well as what Jesus intended as we read in RED lettering what Jesus actually said. There is a bonus in this bible. On the bottom of each page there are more explanations to help us understand, and periodically, there is a small write up on each important bible figure stating really important facts about them. There are maps at the back, and a small section at the back of the bible that will allow us to look up a word we saw in the bible, but need help finding that particular scripture. It tells us which page to go. Final BONUS: this exact bible comes in LARGE PRINT. It really is LARGE PRINT. Of course we should expect the bible to be heavier since it will contain everything I've mentioned that this bible contains. What I do is place a Tablemate II in front of the seniors and slide the table toward them. It can slant and can holds the bible for them as they enjoy reading this large print bible with ease. Amazon sells these tables in white or black https://www.amazon.ca/Adjustable-Tray-Table-Comfortable-Built/dp/B07HVSX2NG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549031663&sr=8-3&keywords=tablemate+II I am so happy with this bible. 5.0 out of 5 stars Isaiah 7:14 - Pass
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 4, 2012
This is my first study Bible after a lifetime of the KJV, Strongs and Eastons since 1962, the NIV I bought 20 years ago and the Good News Translation which is my bedtime reading and gets replaced rather frequently. So I have no previous experience of a study bible to compare it with. I am therefore new to study Bibles but not new to the Bible itself. Readers may therefore forgive my lack of a comparison with others.

As a book I got what I expected with very thin but durable pages common to most Bibles of a manageable size, casebound with pages glued to a spine and then encased in a hard cover. As is to be expected with such a new Bible, the pages tend to stick together and need to be carefully prised apart to avoid creasing them. The design of the Bible pages sometimes means that the actual text of the Bible becomes lost within the study features: For example the Gospel of Luke starts at the very bottom of page 1667 where we would expect the study notes to be and initially needs to be searched for. Overall, the text is small but readable. I'm 62 years old and had no problem reading the text but other older readers with poor vision might like to consider buying a full page magnifier or consider buying the large print version.

To test the translation I went straight to Isaiah 7:14. Sure enough the translation there was "virgin" but with the footnote, "Or young woman" and further explanation in the study notes. Content that this is a translation I can probably trust I read a few more passages and found them to be readable, understandable and accurate. This is a meaning for meaning translation which is valid: The meaning of words changes over time and if we are to understand the text we need to change the words in order to maintain understanding.

I particularly like the "Harmony of the Gospels" explained after the Gospel of John which places 250 events in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in Chronological order. I won't say any more about the extensive features of this Bible because I don't want to be a spoiler of a book which is one to be explored.

Overall, I love this Bible and it now takes pride of place as my main translation. The translation is clear and accurate and the study notes are providing me with knowledge that I had not previously known or considered. This Bible most definitely provides a lot more than the price indicates.
