GERBER Knives and Tools Since 1939
Gerber Legendary Blades
From the manufacturer
TIME-TESTED ICON
Some knives were simply built to stand the test of time, bridging the gap between applauded and legendary. In 1966, Gerber introduced the Mark II fixed blade and the rest, as they say, is history. In a time of turmoil and war, this knife was born of unparalleled attention to the survival and combat needs it was designed to serve. The Vietnam era may have faded into history, but the ripple effect of its influence can still be felt in the iconic design of the Mark II.
One of the best-selling knives of all time, the Mark II is the benchmark against which other tactical knives are measured. The classic features remain applicable on today’s battlefield – the double serrated blade for maximum piercing capabilities, the exaggerated bolster for confident grip, and the unmistakable 6.5” 420HC steel blade. The Mark II isn’t just another tactical knife; it is a piece of history that you carry with you.

That said, this is a high-quality knife, which feels absolutely amazing. I’m no expert, so I’m not going to comment on the quality of the steel, but I do have a collection of around a dozen fixed-blade knives, and speaking purely in terms of design and “feel”, it’s probably my favorite. I think that I’d still prefer a classic Ka-bar Marine-style 1200-series fighting knife for a genuine combat situation, but these commando-style knives modeled after the classic Fairbairn-Sykes design just feel amazing in the hand, and would more easily slip between the ribs and pierce organs, on account of its slim stilleto design, and its relative length. (I realize this is a very morbid way of comparing them, but let’s be honest: this is a fighting knife, built for one singular purpose. Since some reading this may be military and may conceivably buy one for its intended purpose, I’m going to keep it real.
If you’re a collector, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in its quality. If you’re a soldier, you may prefer to go with a somewhat heavier-duty multipurpose survival knife, which can serve other purposes like chopping. That’s personal opinion though, and Major Sykes would undoubtedly disagree.
The Gerber MK II is a fighting knife manufactured by Gerber Legendary Blades from 1967 to 2000, with an additional limited run of 1500 in 2002, and full production resuming as of July 2008. It was designed by retired Army Captain Bud Holzman, who based the pattern off a Roman Mainz Gladius. The Mark II was commonly carried by U.S. troops in the Vietnam War, and was second only to the Ka-Bar knife in fame.
Viet Nam era MK IIs can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars making owning one cost prohibitive for most people who want to own a piece history. Today, Gerber Legendary Knives is again making their famous MK II in an improved design. The Ballistic Nylon Sheath provides improved all weather capability and comes with MOLLE attachment loops and a leg strap. The Knife has a black oxide coated 420 HC double serrated blade and die cast aluminum handle that provides excellent purchase with a gloved or ungloved hand. The Knife is amazingly light but has incredible slashing and penetrating power. In the September 2010 issue of Tactical Knives, a competition was conducted to test the penetraton power of the MK II vs. a traditional tanto blade vs. a Cold Steel Tanto blade. The MK II came out the winner!!! On top of the excellent handling and performance of the MK II, Gerber Legendary Knives is offering this piece of history at an incredible price!!! If you adjust for the cost of living, the Gerber MK II has never been more affordable.
I enthusiastically endorse the Gerber MK II and recommend that you go out and buy one before the demand overwhelms Gerber Legendary Knive's ability to keep up with the orders!!!
A thicker blade would probably throw off the balance point.
Nice thing about this knife, which is difficult to determine buying it on line, the thing is very well balanced. Just fits a large hand perfectly. Seems the balance point is around the guard. Very nice feels natural to the hand. Some may prefer a notched handle for gripping in blood, which tends slippery, but while this is smooth, I think the grip should be OK. The handle feels grippy to the touch.
Sheath, typical nylon sheath. . Low end in price, it is serviceable, but not a reason to buy this knife for. It is adaptable for varying methods of carry.

La scatola è arrivata completamente schiacciata, non l'ideale per un collezionista.
Well, I am very happy that I finally got around to buying one.
Shaving-sharp right out of the box and just a beauty to behold... and to hold.
This is an extremely well-designed knife with a long history.
Designed for one thing, and one thing only... so, don't buy one if you intend to use it for whittling or chopping wood.
This is very collectable, and Gerber has even put serial numbers on them with that in mind.
The sheath is well-made, and is MOLLE compatible.
It also comes with a thigh-strap.
Really happy with this purchase.
And, as always, Amazon's rush shipping is terrific.
Pro:
Kräftige, hochwertig verarbeitete Klinge ausch 420 HC Stahl.
Klinge ist im vorderen Drittel vorgeschärft.
Solides Aluminiumgriffstück.
Sehr gut austariert, nicht zu schwer.
Vielseitig verwendbare und gut verabeitete Messerscheide.
Con:
Etwas mehr Grip beim Griffstück wäre wünschenswert.
Leider nicht aus einem durchgehenden Stück Stahl gefertigt.
