Bob's Red Mill starches and thickeners

Potato Starch

Potato Starch can be used to replace cornstarch in most baking recipes. Potato starch powder tolerates higher temperatures than cornstarch, making it an excellent thickener for sauces, soups and stews. It adds moistness to any baked goods and is an essential ingredient in gluten free baking.

Best fried chicken ever!!
5 Stars
Best fried chicken ever!!
Never using bread crumbs or Pablo ever again!!! I seasoned my potato starch then dipped my chicken into flour then egg wash then potato starch. When the chicken was done OMG!!! It was perfectly crunchy and none of the starch came off in the cooking process.

I believe I can actually tell that this is helping my intestinal problems. That is a rare claim for me to make about something I am taking for a health benefit. Those things are "subjective" to the max. However, in this case I believe I have less gas, less gurd, less reflux and the only thing that I can attribute that to is about a heaping tablespoon of this on my yogurt. (The yogurt I am sure contributes to the above but I was using it before adding the potato starch).
I have recently been on antibiotics (twice) for a UTI caused by e coli bacteria. Rebuilding my own defenses has been important to me and the reduction in reflux and gas has actually been a bonus. I will continue to use this and as long as Bob's has a competitive price will order from them. I want to assurance of a reliable, well known company that will deliver a standardized product that I can rely on. There are a lot of Bob's products in my pantry.

This product is exactly what I wanted it to be. I wanted to use it as a dietary supplement to a low carb diet and it is doing just what I need it to do. (When mixed withi water and drunk cold, it does not add carbs, but does add fiber.)

Several reviewers complained of poor packageing, but my order arrived in perfect condition. I purchased teh 4 pack and the little sacks came nestled in a Bob Mills box, which was inside Amazon's brown shipping box. The Bob Mills box is nice enough to use to store other things, as a matter of fact.

Others complained of the price. I checked out the Bob Mills website and Amazon beat them out when you figure in shipping costs. The cost of the product was much more at Amazon, but since this product qualified for Amazon's free shipping , thethe end cost was better with Amazon.

The only way you could find a better price is if you could buy locally, then the individual little bags would be considerably less than Amazon priknist gakf teg cistm byt U cab;

it was very hard to find this product locally, and this was a great deal.
in local grocery store, it is 5$ for each pack this is almost 50% off.
i used this to make potato pancake and it does its job.
i put regular white flour before instead of potato starch and the texture of potato pancake was hard.
but with this, the texture was chewy and l like it!

I read about using potato starch as a prebiotic fiber. I decided to give it a shot as it is inexpensive. I just mix 1 tablespoon with water, mix it up, and down it in the morning. I pop my probiotic and continue my morning routine. I do this all about a half-hour before breakfast (just to be safe so the probiotic has time to work its way down and doesn't get rendered useless from stomach acid and stuff).

I don't think it has done any harm. I think it has made the probiotics a bit more effective. I am using this as part of my leaky gut regimen. I will probably use these up and see if I feel any drop-offs. If so, I'll order again. If not, I probably won't bother... but I will keep it in mind because I do believe it has helped me nurse my insides back to full health.

I heard about the many advantages of Bob's Red Mill Potato Starch from Dr. Mark Hyman when he was on the Dr. Oz Show. Have been using it for a little over one week, so really not long enough for long term results. However, so far, am very pleased with it. I add it to room temperature water and drink it. It has certainly made me sleep better. In this short amount of time (along with correct eating) bloating in the stomach area has greatly decreased. I was doing 2 tablespoons per day, but cut back to one. Dr. Hyman warned that there may be an adjustment period when the ratio of good bacteria to bad bacteria levels out. Dr. Hyman is the Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine. More information is available on his web site.

First off, I like that it comes in a pack of 4 and it is cheaper than in store.

It also is called for in a lot of my gluten free recipes, so I use it a lot to make various gluten free goodies.

But, the best part of potato starch is using it as a thickener in gravy, soups, etc. When I first had to go wheat free I wasn't sure how I would get my gravies to thicken. I started using cornstarch but found that it didn't reheat well at all and would get all clumpy. One day I decided to use potato starch instead - holy cow it's amazing a thickener. It reheats perfectly and doesn't get those odd clumps in. Even if I could suddenly eat wheat again, I would still use potato starch as my thickener!

I bought this as an additive to my smoothies for a resistant starch... I've since experimented and found it replaces corn starch in recipes and flour in gravies!!! All without the excessive carbs and while using less product. When I was experimenting with gravy I tried a 1 to 1 approach to start, nope! It takes half to a third as much of this potato starch versus flour. I am enthusiastic and impressed by the quality, the freshness, the ease of use and the variability of this wonderful product. I look forward to experimenting further and the delicious outcomes!

There were four-22 ounce packages of potato sealed together in a plastic bag. One of the packages had been opened, 4 ounces of potato starch removed and resealed with tape. Who know what else might have been done to product in the package. This is very dangerous and should not have been allowed. I would be afraid to order from this vendor again. This needs to be thoroughly checked as to how this could have happened.
