VIRGINIA SATIR (1916-1988) was a pioneering psychotherapist, lecturer, and author; she was internationally renowned for her work, especially in the field of family therapy. Considered one of the most distinguished therapists in recent history and selected to be on the boards of numerous prestigious councils, Satir was also known for her Change Process Model, still embraced today. Time magazine once wrote of her, "She can fill any auditorium in the country." She cofounded the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, the first organization to establish a formal training program in family therapy.

It has pictures and guidelines on how to communicate in a relationship without conflict. It's an easy read. This should be mandatory reading for couples. Therapists will find it helpful to guide couples towards successful communication without learning a different "language" of communication. Easy to implement, especially if a couple is in crisis.
It has a little of a 1970's vibe, but Virginia M. Satir is one of the founders of family work.

This is the best small book on interpersonal relationships, what can go wrong and how to improve things, that I know about. I have lost so many copies because people borrow it and then just can't bear to give it back! It is short, easy to read, and well presented and contains the 'bare bones' of Virginia Satir's ideas and philosophies. Virginia Satir has been one of the most respected practitioners in the fields of family therapy, self esteem and interpersonal communication. She uses a practical approach with a minimum of jargon.

Look also for her books 'Conjoint Family Therapy' and 'Peoplemaking' amongst others
