Customers are mixed about the size of the animal collar. Some mention that the size fit perfectly on their 35 lb border collie/lab mix, it was easy to size, and can be smaller or larger to grow with their pet. However, others say that it didn't fit their Labrador, the 3.0mm is too big for their 45 lbe dog, and the smaller links are not for smaller dogs.

All pros, made a wonder dog, just make sure to get the genuine Herm Sprenger product...
My dog's upper neck circumference is about 13-14", she's a German Shepherd mix with maybe Australian cattle and she's about 50+ lbs at 9+ months old now. This collar has 10 links total, I had to remove 4 links, if I remove one more link to properly fit it right behind the ears and below/behind the jaw, it seems just a tiny bit too tight, so I kept it a 4 links removed, it tends to slide down the neck a little more than I prefer, but the flat collar is helping keeping the prong collar up high enough and not too low, even then, it works wonder, am sure it would work much better if I could keep it higher up, but even as is, it's making a huge difference, compared to me using a chain collar before, which did not help to keep from pulling completely, sniffing, etc. With this tool, you only need to give it a very light tug to signal the dog with very low discomfort, I did tried both chain and prong collar on myself, the chain definitely causes pain right at the pinch location, while this prong is spread out evenly around the neck with no pain, only with a tiny slight discomfort to signal the dog, as long as it is used properly, with NO hard pulling required. With this tool, my dog quickly learned to heel properly, stop instantly when told, stopped trying to lunge/pulling toward other dogs to play, stopped sniffing and many other issues.NOTE: I noticed there are so many counterfeits out there, the main and only brand you should use is Herm Sprenger from Germany. Aside from name markings on the product, which I included pics to show the genuine brand, one other easy thing to tell that it's not quality made or maybe a counterfeit, is the end of the prongs, the cheap stuff is cut straight across, not nicely rounded off and may have slight sharp edges, which will cause irritation or pain to your beloved canine. Also, the Herm Sprenger links and chain slides much smoother. I personally like this model, not the one with a quick release clip, I feel that the clip is a weak point, where it may come undone. The pics of the Herm Sprenger, including the tags:- The two semi-triangular plates where the chain is looped around, it says "SPRENGER", "HS", "GERMANY", the word Germany is VERY small.- The square center plate that typically goes in front of the dog's neck says "SPRENGER" all in capital.- The dead ring(round ring) on the chain says "HS-GERMANY".- The D-ring where the leash hooks onto says "HS GERMANY".- Again, the end of each prong should be rounded off nicely, not straight cut across, that's a sure sign of some cheap copy cat. There are some counterfeits out there from China that part of it will even show HS Sprenger, but the lettering style and text size are different.- This one I got from Amazon came without a bag and has the following two product tags.TIP: Just incase if the prong collar comes loose via link of whatever, I recommend using a flat collar also, below the prong collar and use a carabiner clip, clip in to the round dead ring on the prong collar and the D ring on the flat collar. There are three types of carabiner clips, single spring loaded clip, double spring loader or screw in, I prefer the single spring loaded.WARNING: DO NOT keep a prong collar on dog unattended, it's for training only.>>UPDATE: 07/21/2019As stated above even taking out four links, it's a tad too loose and five links, it's a bit too tight. Today, I removed the square center plate that typically goes in front of the neck and changed the links to all go in one direction, now it's a perfect fit, using a total of 6 links like from the beginning.>>UPDATE 08/09/2019By taking out the center plate from the 07/21/2019 update, I later find that it's just a bit too tight. I then ordered the 2.25mm 12" Ultra-Plus version (no quick release clip, I personally do not like the quick release, to me, that clip can be a weak point). For my dog, the 2.25mm 12" is a PERFECT fit for now at 10+ months and due to the slightly smaller prong size, it made another noticeable difference in obedience(not huge, but noticeable to be worth a try), had to adjust the pop to a lighter touch. This is an awesome humane tool(if used properly), it's just night and day compared to other methods that I've tried. When I only use a flat collar, my dog tends to be slightly not as well behaved, but by controlling the leash like if the prong collar was on and voice command, she is still MUCH better than before the prong collar started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective training/bonding tool; Making my second purchase.
Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2016
I purchased this not too long ago when my Labrador Retriever puppy who was just over 40 lbs and 3 months old. At the time when I first received it. I had to remove two links for it to fit properly. It was a good fit and because it is the smaller gauge it did not slide down so much on his neck. I had a previous foster dog where I was given the larger gauge, but it kept slipping toward the base of his neck (which is not where it should be positioned) due to its weight. I prefer this gauge over the larger one and I find they both work the same but without the slipping. The problem is if you have a rapidly growing puppy be prepared to have him/her in between sizes (links) and of course having to add an additional link about 1 week and half later. My Labrador is now 5 months old and weighing in at 65 lbs. This one prong collar no longer fits him with all links on it. However, I am a happy camper with this product and simply repurchasing this same additional prong collar so that I can connect as many additional links as he continues to grow. (Buying the extra links package is a waste of money as they only provide about 3/4 extra links, just buy the extra collar.)

This collar is extremely effective in correcting his need to pull, he does not yelp or seem bothered by it. Proper usage has ensured that he is mindful of me and that I am controlling our walks. Without this collar and being a happy-go-lucky Labrador he will incessantly pull towards every human and animal he sees to say hi (regardless of treats in my hand). In turn, this causes a stressful situation where I am trying to peacefully enjoy our walks and outings, and yet I find myself more than 70% of the time trying to get him to submit to me, which ends up just being plain stressful and not fun for me or him. I am a 5.'6" 130lb female, and he is almost half my weight and only 5 months, this collar has helped us bond better because it continually redirects his attention towards me. I initially felt bad about using this but I've placed the prong collar around my own neck and husband's arm, we both find that with little effort the pressure is annoying but it doesn't hurt, of course if I were a dog and trying to pull away then yes, the collar will pinch, but that should make the dog back off of pulling real quick.

The collar itself is marked with the signature herm sprenger engraving on the rings, the prong tips are rounded off, and made of solid stainless steel. The collar feels high quality.
