I've been using this collar for about a month, and it's been just great. Everything is now normal, no nonsense, no pulling -- just good behavior. She doesn't mind the collar, as there's no issue putting it on her before walks. I look at this collar as a self regulating collar -- the dog regulates it. If the dog walks nicely, no prongs. Dogs learn this fast. Now we get along much better, and when we return from walks, we spend some time with treats / training, then 5 minutes of retrieving. Everyone's happy here now. Here's my advice:
1) Buy this one -- very good quality, does not come apart, easy to put on.
2) Educate yourself prior to using -- GOOGLE pinch collar and view some videos.
3) Size it correctly. My Goldens neck measures 17", yet I needed to remove 3 links, to get a secure good fit -- don't want it to be tight or loose -- should be snug.
4) Do not slip this collar over the dog's head.
5) I find using a 3ft leash gives me more control -- I use Dean Tyler leash.
A little history. We had him in puppy training, flat collar at first. We tried stopping every time he pulled.
"Oh we stopped, cool I'll just pull pull pull until we go again." Or "Oh we stopped, cool I'll sit, wait we're going again!? PULL PULL PULL!!"
We tried turning around each time he pulled.
"Pull pull pull THIS way, we're turning around! GREAT, PULL PULL PULL THE OTHER WAY!". Or pull sideways constantly trying to sniff things or get at other dogs. It was awful. We tried treats for "heel" and redirecting, wearing him out at the park before a walk; nothing was working.
We also tried a 'soft limited slip' also known as a martingale as recommended by the breeder. Didn't matter, he pulled like a mad-man. We tried the Halti. He learned to pull with that too, plus I didn't like how it looked. Samoyeds are very fluffy and it just didn't work out. We also tried the Gentle Leader which despite custom sizing in the chest, really didn't work out. Our dog just learned to LEAN against the pull-around motion and keep at it.
It really came to a head when our dog was basically jerking me all over the sidewalk, slamming me into door frames in his haste to exit the house, and making it virtually impossible to hold the leash with one hand and use the other to do ANYTHING, like open the gate at the dog park. After one particularly embarrassing day at the dog park where I got dragged away from the gate a few times, I did some research and bought this collar.
Wow, just night and day. The dog doesn't mind getting it put on, and once I got the hang of it, it's not too hard to get on and off. I looked at videos on how to put it on, where the placement should be, and everything to make sure it was done right.
Now although he doesn't walk entirely on a 'loose leash' but he's not putting any pressure on the leash, even when he sees another dog. It just took one lunge where he pinched himself in the action to learn. I even did an hour long walk the second day we tried it, where we came up behind a slow walker with 2 tiny dogs, and all my dog did was whine a little bit, but otherwise there was NO pulling, NO lunging, nothing! I can walk the dog using just one arm and not both, and don't have to worry about getting pulled off my feet when trying to pick up dog waste or sparing one hand to get out the water bottle. It's fantastic.
The collar itself looks well-made and all the prongs are polished and rounded off. I tried it myself on a leg and it's not bad at all. We're hoping that a little time with this, combined with a little more maturity for the dog, we can go back to a regular collar, but in the mean time the walks are both way more enjoyable, and longer distances aren't making my arms feel like they are being ripped out of their sockets.
This collar is extremely effective in correcting his need to pull, he does not yelp or seem bothered by it. Proper usage has ensured that he is mindful of me and that I am controlling our walks. Without this collar and being a happy-go-lucky Labrador he will incessantly pull towards every human and animal he sees to say hi (regardless of treats in my hand). In turn, this causes a stressful situation where I am trying to peacefully enjoy our walks and outings, and yet I find myself more than 70% of the time trying to get him to submit to me, which ends up just being plain stressful and not fun for me or him. I am a 5.'6" 130lb female, and he is almost half my weight and only 5 months, this collar has helped us bond better because it continually redirects his attention towards me. I initially felt bad about using this but I've placed the prong collar around my own neck and husband's arm, we both find that with little effort the pressure is annoying but it doesn't hurt, of course if I were a dog and trying to pull away then yes, the collar will pinch, but that should make the dog back off of pulling real quick.
The collar itself is marked with the signature herm sprenger engraving on the rings, the prong tips are rounded off, and made of solid stainless steel. The collar feels high quality.

I bought a second one for extra hook links. If you buy the extra hooks individually it is more expensive.
