The third lost princess. The final key to the treasure. And a battle for the throne.

Growing up deep in the forest as a poor charcoal burner’s daughter, Emmeline has always known her identity as a princess of Mercia, and she lives in fear of being caught and killed. When her adopted father returns from town with news regarding the imminence of war, Emmeline has no wish to join the rebellion against King Ethelwulf.

Prince Ethelrex, the strongest warrior in the land, has done everything he can to prove his loyalty to his father, including searching for the last lost princess. When Ethelrex finally captures Emmeline, the king commands his son to marry the princess in order to win the support of the people and undermine the rebellion.

Forced into marriage, Emmeline has one goal—to escape. But Ethelrex takes his marriage vows seriously, including his promise to love and cherish his wife, and has no intention of letting Emmeline get away. As the battle for the throne rages, will the prince be able to win the battle for Emmeline’s heart?

Best of the Series!!!

Best of the Series!!!
'God oft gives us more than we deserve. I can do no less for others.'Jody Hedlund definitely saved the best for last in her Lost Princesses medieval series. The medieval setting is my favorite, I think, and she does it so very well. This time we have Emmeline's story, she who is a twin to Princess Maribel. They both, along with their older sister, Princess Adelaide, were spirited away when the evil King Ethelwulf killed their parents and took control over the kingdom. For 18 years they have been hunted, for each holds a part of a puzzle that will bring great riches to the kingdom and also peace. Adelaide and Maribel were never found in time but now Emmeline's hiding has been discovered and she is forced to wed the evil king's son, Rex. Rex, however, is not the evil prince she thinks he is.This one was so good! I was on the edge of my seat, so to speak, especially during the descent into the Labyrinth of Death. Hedlund gives us a wonderful and oh so satisfying conclusion to her very good series. And we learn that sometimes fear is just courage trying to emerge. I personally hope she returns to her medieval tales soon. Truly, it is her forte.*My thanks to the author for a preview copy of this book. The opinions stated here are entirely my own.

As I read the more I wanted to. Nice twists and turns in the story line to keep me surprised. Fantastic work and use of history.

This series was so good! I’ve read several series by Jody Hedlund and have loved them all. Each series has held me captive. How does one person have so many creative ideas for her many novels?!? I haven’t been disappointed yet!

Jody Hedlund saved the best for last in her Lost Princesses series! I was so thrilled to read the conclusion to this story, but I wish it didn’t have to end. With a strong romance thread and a healthy dose of action, Hereafter was, hands down, my favorite book in this amazing series.

Emmeline, the final lost princess, was raised always knowing her identity and living in fear of the day King’s Ethelwulf’s men would come for her. Ethelrex, now the crown prince of Mercia, has been sent by his father to capture and marry Emmeline in the hope of crushing the rebellion. Emmeline and Rex’s growing attraction despite being on opposite sides of the conflict felt authentic and I was truly rooting for their romance to succeed.

I loved seeing the fight for Mercia from Rex’s point of view. Despite his fierce exterior and his father’s ruthlessness, he was truly an honorable man and his commitment to his vows was swoon worthy. His struggle to balance honoring his father’s wishes and his own moral compass was heart wrenching.

I cannot recommend this series enough! The romance is sigh inducing, the action is gripping, and the fantasy elements are exciting. I can only hope there will be more medieval romance to come from Hedlund in the future! I would recommend The Lost Princesses for fans of Tamara Leigh, Melanie Dickerson and, of course, any of Hedlund’s other works.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

"God made you for more . . . . This was the time for more."

Torn between saving the lives of her parents and fulfilling her destiny, Princess Emmeline faces an impossible challenge. Marriage to King Ethelwulf's son was either an escape route, or a prision sentence; she highly doubted it could ever bring peace.

In spite of the fact that Prince Ethelrex exudes enormous skill as a warrior, Emmeline has to reluctantly admit that he is a surprisingly honorable leader; treating her with a strange mix of kindness and protection. However, the real question remains; when faced with monumental decisions, will the prince become as despicable as his father; suggesting that she betray the sisters that she has never met or will he offer the ultimate sacrifice to restore the throne of Mercia?

This stirring conclusion to the "The Lost Princesses" has everything a climax should embrace; "wisdom, healing, and courage" to the very end. . . . . and of course quite a dash of romance! "But was love enough?"

Hereafter
The Lost Princesses #3
By Jody Hedlund

Emmeline has always known she was one of the lost princesses of Mercia. For the last 18 years, she has been raised by the very people who saved her and her sisters from the blade of King Ethelwulf. But the time has come to leave all she's known and join with her sisters in their attempt to reclaim the throne that rightfully belongs to Queen Adelaide Constance. But Emmeline fears that she hasn't the courage to face the coming war, she wants nothing more than to continue living the life she has always known. But change is coming whether she wants it to or not.

Prince Ethelrex (Rex), as the elder son of King Ethelwulf, is heir to the throne of the united Kingdom of Bryttania. But to secure his position and to stop the rebellion, Rex has been tasked by his father to secure the remaining princess and marry Emmeline upon capturing her. But finding this hidden away princess is no easy task as he is in a race against Queen Adelaide's rebels in securing her and her key to the ancient treasure of Solomon.

Forced into a marriage she doesn't want Emmeline wonders if this is her purpose to be a means to bring peace to the land and avoid the bloodshed war is sure to bring. Or is she merely a tool to be manipulated by King Ethelwulf to destroy her sisters? And Rex's promise that he meant his marriage vows - manipulation or truth? Emmeline's future and her heart depend on who Rex truly is.

Hereafter is the conclusion to the Lost Princess series and it is a series that must be read in order as each book builds upon what came before. For those who have read Always, we get to catch up on the life that Felicia and Lance took to protect the three princesses. The book and series end in such a way that it should prove satisfactory to almost everyone. And yes this book continues the clean YA standard those familiar with Jody Hedlund's YA works expect and appreciate. This is one series you don't want to miss.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own.

With this being the final book in The Lost Princesses trilogy, I am sad to have it come to an end. It was wonderfully written and the characters well developed. I don’t always like books that change character perspectives, but this was done really well. Each story could stand alone, but I would highly recommend reading them in order, beginning with the prequel (which may have actually been my favorite of the four books!)
It is romantic, but clean. There is some torture which can be hard to read, but it is in no way gory. There is a Spiritual undertone that is beautifully woven into the storyline. I wouldn’t recommend it for young teens, but maybe older teens. I am 39 and enjoyed it very much! Hope this helps! Happy reading.
