Way better than cheaper options

Kind of a duh-moment, but I took my chances on some cheaper flaring tools, and the dies kept breaking, and it’d take me a handful of tries to even make a flare because the tubing kept slipping. Decided to finally spend the money on this tool specifically because the bubble dies looked more durable.

The quality of this tool compared to the cheaper ones isn’t even a contest. Plus this one came with instructions. I only had to make two flares, so I can’t speak about the durability yet. However, I was able to make both flares on the first try without any slipping.

I rebuilt the fuel lines on a car with this, and it worked really well. I'm sure there are easier tools to use out there, but nowhere near this price point. I was especially frustrated with the nuts on another flare tool snapping the first time I used a screwdriver to crank them down. This one has really beefy wingnuts and I was able to crank them tight every time. And since I was new to flaring and needed to practice and needed to work through some issues with the wrong fittings, I must have done nearly 50 of these in a very short time, but I'm very happy with the results.

I bought this to replace a section of brake line on a friends car. I had never done this task before (nor have i flared tubing before). i solved the busted brake line by replacing a section of already flared and fitted tubing from NAPA and using this kit. The tools felt very solid. I had no problems with using anything in the kit. It is tedious work to make the flare as nice as possible, especially when under a car with jack stands and no lift. all in all, the repair job went smoothly and the kit was fairly easy to use and made the job possible.

While the ends meet the center does not, it seems bowed (see photos). There is a gap. Consequently the brake line cannot be gripped tight enough for the tool to work and it just pushes the brake line out. Works great on copper nickel brake line, fails on steel lines

This flaring tool worked great to create bubble flares on NiCopp brake line material. It was, easy, consistent, and the bubble flares were well formed. However it was pretty much useless for flaring the steel lines already on the vehicle. Even on a relatively small lin e(3/16 or 4.5mm) more often than not it would just bend the steel tubing over rather than produce a flare. When a flare was actually created the die would leave a large burr of steel on the line just behind the flare that would need to be filed off. It took 3-4 attempts to get a useable flare on steel lines each time. If you need to flare steel line, better to invest in a good hydraulic flaring tool.
